- Welcome to another layout tour. This video will showcase Brad White's HO Scale PRR Chautauqua Branch layout. This is a large, basement filling layout that is designed for prototypical operations. The layout is fully operational and has been for many years, with regular operating sessions held. Scenery was started, but Brad and his wife began the search for a new house and when that gained momentum the scenery work was curtailed.
This video will be the last look at Brad's current layout- a new house was found and the move is underway. The last operating session was held on Saturday, November 30th 2019 and disassembly of the layout started immediately afterwards. But fear not! Brad has a wonderful new basement and plans are already under way for the new and improved Chautauqua Branch.
Brad uses the Digitrax system and JMRI to run the layout. Despite the layout's maturity (okay, age!) it runs almost flawlessly and operating sessions are extremely enjoyable. The era is in the 1955-1957 period. Being a Pennsy line the PRR dominates but there are appearances by both Erie and Nickel Plate trains on occasion.
I want to thank Brad for his gracious hospitality and allowing me to video his outstanding layout. I also am thankful for the invites to join the operating sessions- I have learned a great deal from Brad and appreciate his patience and mentorship. Thanks Brad!!
Now get cracking on the new layout so we can get back to operating!

Appreciate your efforts, I lived in OC. My grandfather was a PRR engineer through WW 2, through Conrail. He ran both the Salamanca, and the Chatauqua branches
Hi Ben you wouldn't happen to have any of your grandfathers log books? Those are wealth of information as to what locomotives ran on each branch.
@@bradleywhite6559 yes I do, and they are a wealth of information. He and I talked at length about about his time working in OC.
@@schifferben1873 is there any chance I could some scans of them? If there is any cost I would cover them. my email address is valleyln55@gmail,com
Thanks for the tour Rob, I am glad I got to see it before he moves to the new house. Can't wait to see the new version evolve in the larger basement!
wow!!!! just love the history of the layout !! thanks guys !
We have basements in North Carolina. I looked at Phillipston PA on Google earth and theres still a turntable there. Very nice layout and good video and commentary explaining the layout. 👍
This is great to hear the history of the railroad through Corry and Titusville. I'm modeling the same line but modernized and trying to do the towns 1 to 1 Unfortunately not a lot left on the prototype as far as operations go.
Those Baldwin Sharks had good heaters for winter running! 😉
Great layout. I model the Chautauqua Brach from Brocton to Silver Creek in N
The new layout will model Oil City to Buffalo including the portion between Brocton and Buffalo.
Survey crews are out and engineering is under way on the new Chautauqua branch. Plans and ideas are under review.
Fred "King of Corry" Lotte (also chief RR architect/engineer)
What exactly are you talking about? A model RR group reimagining the Chautauqua Branch? Sort of stumbled across this video today by chance, while I’ve been trying to learn about the actual Chautauqua Branch.
well Brad had a nice layout. hope most of it moves ok, and back up and running in no time. we know one section will move ok anyway, being part of 5 different layouts. good luck Brad
My family worked for the pennsy in brocton back in the steam days. I'm working in modeling brocton in n scale, but can't find any more resources for modeling other then talking to family
Great lay out tour Rob and beautiful layout Brad , thanks for the video , Brian
Wow, the history of that yard is deeper than some actual rail lines. You don't often see that. So glad you got to preserve this on video Rob. Will be interesting to see what changes will be made on the new layout. The first time I recall seeing a Lionel bridge used on HO was by Dean Freytag if I remember correctly. It works well, such a massive structure, it screams heavy metal. Cheers, Rob
Amazing layout, but I'm sort of imagining how you would be doing the landscaping here.
13:00, then Brad explains the situation. Very sensible. Boy is he going to be having some fun.
Good to know you will you be making a 'return' in a year (or two)?
The Jerk will rise again Rob.
Hey, you calling me a .....oh, yeah, yes it will!
Terrific layout. I love these tours. Thanks. One thing.....can you explain the type of track and code of rail?
I'll have to ask Brad to confirm, but I think it is a mix. Atlas Code 100, some hand-laid on fibre ties, etc. Maybe Brad will read this and chime in as well.
What a beauty.
The “Jerk”. I like it
Rob, what song are you using for the intro of the video?
Title is "Casey Don't You Fret". I got it in the TH-cam free song library.
When are we gonna see trains running on your Layout
Great video!! Very nice lay out too.
This doesn't apply just to this layout, but I wonder why modelers use people and animals in "frozen motion" poses. There are plenty of poses that imply they are alive while not looking like high-shutter-speed stop-action photos - while the trains are moving.
I know that as a kid in the '70's I didn't see videos. I saw still pictures in magazines.
