I feel bad when u said it was ur most requested suggestion with 2 comments because ur such an underrated channel and most kids nowadays just sit on their Xbox or PlayStation thinking they know a lot by playing Fifa
I felt the exact same and yeah I agree too! It's a shame FIFA doesn't have more variety in tactics to be more precise cause I'd love having the ability to make your own tactics that aren't just ones you have to pick from. If like been able to make my own unique ones that nobody has used before or thought of
In 1980, I was coaching a U15 team. At that time, many here in the US were still learning the rudiments of the game. We were using the 4-3-3 but didn't really know it, as the fourth defender was the 'sweeper'.... remember those? We languished midtable for several years until, after much thought, I put my best player at center half, changed the midfield to a triangle with the center up and the others back (as shown in the video), and changed the name of the center half to 'forward sweeper'. I encouraged the forward sweeper to 'underlap' the outside forwards when appropriate while keeping his defensive responsibilities in mind. We destroyed nearly everyone we played over the next three years, with average skilled players on the pitch.
nicely done.. I did some boys coaching and although we scored plenty I never really built a strong defensive counter. Those boys had plenty of skill and heart sadly washout a defense I let them down.
This is the single most useful tactics channel I know. I've been following Tifo forever, but they rarely get to the nuts-and-bolts of specific formations they way you do. I'll be coming here often.
I'm working as a sports reporter and this is excellent work for us to understand better how the coaches use their formation. Thank you very much for all the important information! Keep up the good work!
I am a U18 coach using the 4-3-3 now. I played this in high-school back in the 80s and loved it. The 4-3-3 is very solid and simple for beginners with the many wonderful potentials explained terrifically in this video-thanks!
I like how you provided examples of teams and players at each position. Now, I can watch those teams to see the formation in action. Also, great breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses. Fantastic Job!
Supremely underrated channel. You've got yourself a new subscriber. I guess the natural next step is the 4-4-2. People call it outdated these days, but there's a simplistic beauty that can't be matched by anything else.
Thank you! Yeah for sure I'll be updating this playlist shortly. The 4-4-2 does seem to be making a comeback as well, some big teams in Europe are doing quite well with it
I’m not a huge fan of the 4-4-2. I lite to have lots of mids and 2 strikers sort of hinders that. I prefer the 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3 however you look at it) or the 3-6-1 (or 3-4-3). In a fifa manager mode I though of a 2-7-1. That’s the type of person I am.
great talk. I have played a 4-2-3-1 and is very similar to the 4-3-3 . When you attack from a 4-2-3-1 in theory you would become a 4-3-3. Only different is when saying it as a 4-2-3-1 the wingers understand they have to go back and defend where as a 4-3-3 they might think they can stay up front. when choosing a formation you have to play to the strength of your players and not forcing them into doing that they are not good at.
Yup I’m learning that especially if you don’t have depth of top quality players or gaps in levels have to play to your strengths with the right formation
Personally had a bit of an opposite problem with the 4231, where the attacking and defensive mids would both stay too "literal" to their named roles and leave a big gab between them, both ruining our build up and leaving us with vulnerable spaces in opposite possession... Meanwhile it then worked much better as a set 433, as the three centre mids were much more focused on their roles as actual "midfielders" and the attacking wings knowing they also needed to support the perimeter defense whenever the opponent attacked on their side.. As another benefit, in the 433 the CF/"9" was supported better in our attack than it was playing as a 4231... Strange enough, as they are fairly similar systems, but I guess it ultimately always comes down to the individual players and their understanding/interpretation of the roles that they're given 🤷🏻♂️
I have played soccer for 3 decades and am now a head coach. This was an EXCELLENT breakdown on roles of each position and ball movement. I found this video EXTREMELY useful thank you for this breakdown, excellent job!
This video is absolutely stellar. I usually know the basic ideas of a formation but struggle to properly articulate it whenever I'm talking. Not only that, but the USMNT, the national team I follow, employs this formation with the absence of a creator, and it always feels like a struggle to make chances in open play. Because of this, a lot of people are calling for Musah or Reyna to start in that position instead of on the wing, but we've yet to see Gregg Berhalter do anything of the sort. You also made note of the biggest weakness of the USMNT this year - our transition from offense to defense is usually slow and dangerously so.

This is my new favourite channel, its so informative but I can tell you are incredibly funny, you just rattle little one liners off like its nothing, and that graphic... well deserved sub.
My academy has been trying to teach these principles to the players for a year with little to no results but you've explained then perfectly in under 15 minutes. I honestly wish we sometimes had strictly tactical training, as all weaknesses and setbacks you explained are what's keeping us from finishing top of the league. (we often finish 3rd or 4th due to individual games where we concede too many goals.)
Got a lot of questions in my head prior to watching the video. You've answer them all in this awesome and informative video. Definitely deserved more subs! Keep it up!
Bro you are doing great work... It's a shame to see so much less subscribers on your channel and less likes on your videos but mate keep doing your good work, we will support you and hope in future you will get much more appreciation for your great work 😍
Great video. I have used this for years with my high school and club team to score a high number of goals each season. We are utilizing It now with my Girls premier U18 team. We scored 12 goals in our first 3 matches and only had 4 against. The team that score more than the other guys always wins!
Me and my team just won our first match of the season using the 433 formation. We thought we performed better with the 442 formation but nothing could be further from the truth. We were explicitly told to keep the midfielders close to each other, and it worked wonders.
Great review. I'm playing football manager and sometimes I get confused with the roles I should give to my players but you made it all clear to me. Thumbs up my guy
Great job explaining each individual players duties, my daughters team plays this formation and I’m sure this video will help her and her teammates learn the game that much more! Thanks again.
Good video. I have to say I was a fan of the 3-5-2 formation, for its flexibility and fluidity, you have to look at balance and as I like to have that and wingers, thjis seems to win the day.Not withstanding that England, to add to the list of teams you mention won a worldcup with this 4 3 3, it kind of speaks for itself. Both as a player (when I played, select traveling team, middle school team, HS Varsity and in College) and later on as a coach - my favorite formation is/was a straight/flat 4-3-3 or attacking 4-3-3 with the left and right midfielders playing out wide. The defenders would cover from our goal to just a little over the midfield line, the outside mid would cover from our 18 to their 18 (except for the center mid who cover from our goal line to just over their 18, the offensive wingers would cover from just inside our half to their goal line and the striker would cover from just within our half to their goal line. I started out as the starting goalie and then later on I moved to a field player and was usually the starting center mid and at times (on my select team) the starting striker; unless the other team had all-star player (such as when I played against former American National and WC team captain Team Ramos (in a u-19 tournament) - then I'd be the starting center mid, mark him and shut him down. The 4-3-3 is also most balanced, yet attacking formation and the best formation for either "long ball" or a combination of "short ball" and "long ball". The key to the 4-3-3 working is the center-mid (which is like the QB in American football) he/she controls the midfield, the game and the pace - if you don't have a quality center mid; then your best to play a 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2. In brief.

For me, another key point in attack for this system is the attacking mids movement in the final third. Attacking mids can make runs in behind the opponent's backline between the center back and full backs (see Gundogan's movement). When wingers come inside, the attacking mids should also be able to make runs into the space that they vacate (high and wide).
Thankyou for explaining this tactic ! Hope to see more vids on other tactics in future... who do you think is the best natural defensive midfielder in the world right now ? What is your preferred tactic/ formation ?

For me, another key point in attack for this system is the attacking mids movement in the final third. Attacking mids can make runs in behind the opponent's backline between the center back and full backs (see Gundogan's movement). When wingers come inside, the attacking mids should also be able to make runs into the space that they vacate (high and wide).
Yeah definitely, they're key for creating overloads in certain areas, or to create 2v1 situations on the flanks
