What a shame tom, both lofts were doing great, some one sent there birds when they shouldn't have.its happened over here.its spreads so fast,, very unfortunate for your season tom
Next year get the PMV, Adeno, and circo vaccine. 3 in 1 shot and done. I also did herpes and roto virus as well as pox and knock on wood have had no sick birds.
Hi Tom oh dear sry ta see that man I had that in my birds too its a very horrible virus lost a few. I read a probiotic can help. I gave em Metronidazole but the birds just died within a few days.
If the birds don't get vaccinated 2 or 3 times before the training and racing starts, they're gonna get sick, that's a given. The #1 downfall of young birds is the quality of their health. If you don't do everything possible for them, they'll get sick somewhere along the line. Vaccinations, vitamins, minerals, preventive medication, scraping the loft daily, etc etc. It all goes hand in hand to having a healthy young bird team when racing starts up, and will continue throughout the season if done diligently. I cringe when I see people on TH-cam preaching that "Deep Litter" (natural immunity) method of cleaning BS. Walking around in pigeon droppings all over the loft is not healthy for the birds, plain and simple. They preach that only to justify that they are too lazy to clean their lofts daily, that's all it is.. Ok, I'm done venting now! 🙂 PS.. You might wanna think about spraying down the inside of the loft with "Virkon S" a couple of times.. That'll get rid of any further problems.
I think in the LONG, LONG term there is benefit to the natural health/deep litter programs. We see this in my recent Adenovirus situation where my Rollers suffered low mortality rates, I surmise due to the fact that they've been on this type of program for more than ten decades. The problem of course, is "the now." Long term, promoting high natural fitness is undoubtedly better for stocks of pigeons, but to "get there", you're going to lose LARGE numbers of birds. My observations going forward is that wire/grated floors and routine use of Virkon S is the only sure fire preventative. Unfortunately, current Adenovirus vaccines are aimed at Poultry Adenovirus and studies show no benefit for pigeons.
@@kerbyjackson88 .. I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that thought. There is nothing healthy about birds walking around the loft in droppings that have been there for days, weeks or months on end.. Especially if any of the birds are sick. Do you think the most famous flyers in the world, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany have droppings all over the inside of their loft on a daily basis? I don't believe Ganus, Hans & Evert Jan Eijerkamp, Gerard Koopman or Hardy Kruger's loft is covered in droppings all over the place. And why is that? Because they know that a clean loft is a loft full of healthy birds.. Their lofts are spotless on a daily basis.. JMHO
@ausfuhrpramienjagar No doubt, but the frequency of disease today in Racing Pigeons is much higher than it was 30 or 40 years ago. As you know, in those days, the use of supplements and meds was much less prevalent than it is now and just about everybody used a deep litter system because it was the way things were always done. Today, management is far superior, and a lot more is known about nutrition and combatting disease, yet disease is a much bigger issue than ever. I think in the end, we're talking about a lot of pigeons that wouldn't have thrived 40 years ago just because they've been kept in conditions that aren't natural to them for many generations now. As a result, they seem to just fall apart if you don't coddle them and treat them like "normal pigeons." This much I know, it is easier and less time consuming to properly maintain 600 Rollers than it is to maintain 100 Racers simply because of the vigor factor.
Nope, was on the list for a PMV/Rota but supplier had issues getting it. I never ordered it from one of the other companies. Do you think salmonella vaccine would have helped?
I’m gonna dedicate my pigeon carrier to breeding low maintenance champion birds lmao as dumb as it sound but im going straight natural products and home grown foods
Following.

Thanks we should be able to get them back racing 🤞
They are in great hands and no doubt will bounce back quickly! Thanx for the update.
Hi Tom it spreads through saliva and droppings and even feather dust.
😢 Just like last year, after being combined/shipped with the other club birds. Hope they bounce back quickly for you!
Luckily for us they cancelled racing this weekend due to fires

Youngbird sickness messed up my birds big time last year

@@kerbyjackson88 .. Your first sentence is the correct answer, which seems to solidify my point..
Didn’t you vaccinate for salmonella ?
