    I dont mind gold and silver being kid friendly, but even as a child who played their upgraded versions (heart and soul), most of the things if not all of them that they removed wouldn't have phased me as a particularly sensitive kid

      We called shiny Pokémon "sacred Pokémon"
      We called Kanto the "second half of the world'
      We miss pronounced most Pokémon names, particularly Lugia becoming "Lujia"
      All because we had English copies and we didn't speak English as children

Learning of it made his temper and drinking even worse and he began lashing out at his soldiers, who in return went to ambush and kill him during a "party" they set up for him. They killed him after he was too drunk to defend himself.

    It's rather ironic that the Gameboy couldn't render Korean text properly because the characters were too complicated to display, considering the modern Korean characters were inspired as a mix between Chinese and Japanese characters in order to simplify and standardize the language to make it easier for the lower classes to become literate. A language designed to be simple to learn ended up being too graphically demanding for a game system that could render most other languages.

    • @IlluviumGaming
      @IlluviumGaming ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol Korean characters are absolutely not a mix of Chinese and Japanese. While some Chinese did have an influence on it a little bit (mostly muddied letters like ㄲ), Japanese had zero influence whatsoever on the language. Hangul was created independently from those, although the reason you said is correct.

    • @basedimperialism
      @basedimperialism ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @IlluviumGaming I don't mean the characters are literally taken from chinese and japanese characters, I meant that they're 'inspired', I guess, like how the Latin alphabet is 'inspired' by the Greek Alphabet. I should have been more specific.

    • @IlluviumGaming
      @IlluviumGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Based Imperialism They weren't though, the consonants were based on the shapes of oral anatomy making certain sounds, and the vowels were based on yin and yang and balance. Not a huge deal, but just saying that cause Koreans would be pretty offended by someone implying Japanese had any impact on hangul. Chinese, maybe a little - them being written in blocks maybe, and the muddier sounds for sure. But Japanese, not at all.
      Anyway, have a great day buddy.

    • @basedimperialism
      @basedimperialism ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IlluviumGaming Ah. Alright. TH-cam is retarded then because that's where I heard that stuff from. Not a big surprise tbh

    • @IlluviumGaming
      @IlluviumGaming ปีที่แล้ว

      @@basedimperialism Ah, you probably heard about hanja and kanji being derivative of Chinese. Basically, both Korean and Japanese use Chinese characters in their languages. That being said, hanja is separate from hangul (the Korean alphabet), and kanji is separate from hiragana and katakana (the other Japanese writing systems). For example, the Chinese characters 男性 (男 means male, 性 means biological sex) is pronounced dansei in kanji/Japanese, and pronounced namseong in hanja/Korean, and means 'man' or 'male' in both languages. However, in Korean, 男性 (namseong) will normally be written as 남성, which is namseong written in hangul. So the languages (Korean and Japanese) are influenced by Chinese, but not the writing system. That's an understandable mix-up to make.

I could play Pokémon Yellow for 10 hours straight, but these days I’m reluctant to play a 1 hour round of Dota. I even tried getting into the Switch, but no matter how much I think I want a game, I play it for like a half hour and then never play it again. It’s just not the same as it used to be. I can suspend my belief and feel like I’m just wasting time. I just miss being able to have fun without thinking I’m falling behind my peers.

    I have something to say about the german versions at 10:36!
    "Giftblick" is "poison glance" when you literally just translate the words without the meaning.
    It's a german proverb for an "evil glance" that you give somebody or receive from somebody! So it's not mistranslated and has nothing to do with poison.
    And "Feurigel" doesn't mean Fire Hedgehog. That would be "Feuerigel" then. The pronunciation is completely different.
    Don't know anyone who got confused by these. Could be a bit confusing for children at worst.

    • @homerman76
      @homerman76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The target audience is children, so that might explain where the issue lies, especially since even more straightforward names and descriptions can be misunderstood by people, though I imagine that Cyndaquil's situation is also connected to its back flame design on top of the name

    • @nonic_
      @nonic_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'Poison glance' is also pretty close to an English idiom; it's not uncommon to describe a glare as being a 'poisonous look' (or a close derivation thereof). Probably stolen from the Germanic base of the English language, now that you mention it.

      It never would've worked out.. Cell phones were just much more basic in turn of the millenium USA. By the time we were starting to get internet enabled cell phones, wifi was becoming common, thus the DS had no need for such an adapter.
      Still really cool!

    Cyndaquil in French is héricendre which means hérisson (hedgehog) and cendre (ashe). If the German is not correct, it means the French one too!

      @@V-Jes Black and White had revamped all of the sprites with added animations to them. Every generation has had sprite changes, some including animations on them or didn't, but black and white changed that. The 3d models are something that I can't say if they were hard to do. And maybe it took long ass work to do it but at this point, they're not working as hard as of recent games.

      @@beatz1103 3D models take MUCH more work to do than multiple sprites while there is pretty much no reason to remake all the models because they are just gonna look the same in the end as the only real differences they can do with models that makes a big impact is change the animations.
