When he says you've never experienced a team leaving "like this" he means that the team was literally moved out of town, unannounced, in the middle of the night. To this day you will almost never see a Mayflower truck in Maryland because local businesses refuse to use them.
IIRC, Maryland's state legislature was debating whether or not to use eminent domain and seize the team that night before the Colts were hijacked to Indiana.
