Another great Conan lore video. Well done! As a longtime Lovecraft fan I really appreciate that you are in the know with the the Lovecraftian elements. Did you know that Yog Sothoth is actually in Age of Conan? It's avatar can be summoned in House of Crom by a 24 man raid. And you actually have to do a ritual in several stages to open the portal. Also Nyarlathotep is behind a lot of crazy stuff in AOC you can actually meet him in the Dragon's spine zone in this elaborate solo quest line and there are plenty of writings on the walls of House of Crom about the Crawling Chaos, and the Shining Trapezohedron, the serpent people and Kull oh and in Dragon's spine you encounter the Trapezohedron (a stygian archeologist goes completely nuts when you bring him a fragment). There are many more Lovecraft lore pieces in AOC. though several of them are in group content. ps. In house of Crom, you can listen to some atlantean ghosts talking about Cthulhu dreaming in his house in R'yeh :D Edit: Oh and the Entity in the Jade Citadel has a special message for Herald Of Xotli players about Hastur and Nyarlathotep. Ok I will shut up now :D
As I'm sure you know, Howard and Lovecraft were very good friends, though they never met in person. They wrote each other many letters and exchanged ideas and philosophies.
@@connorperrett9559 Oh yes, as I understand it, they were penpals and both wrote for Weird Tales. Been playing it since 2011 :)
You know the more I hear about the Conan universe the more I think about how Island theory seems to hold true for the hyper advanced entities in the setting that more or less stop traveling the outer dark and settle on a planet. And what I mean by Island theory is how if you take a group of people stick them on an island with very little in the way of predation and no real way for their enemies to get at them then they start forgetting their technology and just effectively turn back the clock on what they are able to maintain and produce

So, in Acheron, having a big, powerful, ugly demon to carry you around was the modern equivalent of owning a Ferari or Lamborghini? A succubus is something like a trophy wife? I kind of love that image.
The reason the player can understand all lorestones in the exiled lands, is part of their original design. The bracelets were originally designed to ease the communication between lemurian settlers and the original Giant-King inhabitants. Basically, it auto-translates - this feature only being disabled in the gallery of the priest king, above the undead dragon arena as referrenced in one of the lore-stones where the archivist explains to the slaves serving there that it is for the privacy of the high ranking giant kings there. The bracelet was a result of the combined magic of the witch-queen and the priest-king, in their efforts to co-exist while the two civilizations were still at peace. When the lemurians declared war on the serpent-men in the volcano, the giant-kings turned the bracelet against them, activating a dormant "safety" in the bracelet that would trap the lemurian slaves inside the wall, while the lemurian free city of Xel-Ha would be sealed outside the first wall (the broken ghostwall totems that borders the jungle/swamp biome). In turn, the witch queen was able to undermine the bracelet to leave lorestones across the exiled lands that only her enslaved kin could understand, the only other referance to the bracelets not translating universally. On a sidenote just because i love this lore, listening to all the lemurian lorestones in order take on a whole new heartbreaking meaning once you realise that she is not pleading to her enslaved lemurian kin, but primarily to her son (in-law, ty Joel), Tyros, the half giant-king slave champion who was concieved with the help of magic by the witch-queen and the priest-king. Indeed, Tyros did rebel, and as punishment the Giant-Kings killed (?) his children and his wife Telith, who's grave you'll find on Telith's island in the exiled lands. In addition, the priest-king cursed Tyros and his legion of slave-warriors to never grant the rest of death, trapping them to guard Xullan (the black keep) as undead for eternity.
Oh this reminded me, it might be wrong that Tyros has no demon blood, i guess it depends on definition. He is supposed to be the mix of the priestking of the giant-kings and the witch-queen of lemuria, who combined their sorceries to bring Tyros safely through to birth after their "union", in their efforts for their peoples to coexist peacefully. Would be interesting to hear your take. My assumption at least would be that he'd count as demonblooded, as the Archivist's lorestones references the Giant-king race to have originated in the outer dark between the stars, and their magic is also drawn from there - plenty of demonic influence to Tyros' blood, would be my thought.
Thank you very much for the lore info! We reward this behavior here! If we didn’t already have a pinned comment I’d pin this one instantly! As far as the priest king goes that explains a lot, but still fits with in my understanding of more technology focused giant kings civilization. Especially if the magic we would actually consider magic is concentrated in one figure.
@@GrimDarkHalfOff No need for a pin and happy to share ^^ I've been unhealthily obsessed with the lore of the exiled lands for years - Joel from funcom made it an amazing story of lore to be pieced together, as nothing is written in one place or explained outright. It's an amazing piece of work.
Hate to correct you, but remember, Tyros was not the son of the witch queen (well, unless you say son-in-law, but for me, he’s not a proper son of the witch queen). He was born from a relationship between the priest king and an unknown Lemurian woman, as we can read in the tear of two races’ item description in Conan exiles. Tyros fell in love with Telith, the witch queen’s daughter, making tyros effectively the witch queen’s son in law, which is what you say. Also, the giant kings didn’t kill Tyros’ wife, Telith, and his children, Xaalthar and Xaltana. If this was the case, we wouldn’t see Xaalthar become Xaltotun, high priest of set in Acheron, and we also wouldn’t see Xaltana become witch queen of Acheron. Tyros was cursed with eternal life by the priest king in their duel, which Tyros won by defeating his father. Because he had eternal life, he witnessed his loved ones fall around him and how he had to seclude himself in the black keep with his undead silent legion. His wife Telith died and was buried in Imi’s cradle on telith’s island by Xaalthar and Xaltana, and of course, Xaltana and Xaltotun would, presumably, die of things like old age or death in battle, all while Tyros remained in the black keep under his curse of eternal life. I think this makes Tyros’ story far more depressing, as watching your loved ones die around you while you still live is, in my opinion, far worse than them being downright killed.
@@joelkp1185 happy to be corrected, You're right - i was writing this off memory and some wires got crossed - Tyros' relation to the witch-queen is by marriage. I think what imprinted it wrongly in my mind after so long is the lorestones left by the witch queen, because they felt so much more impactful realising that she had a daughter and grandchildren at stake - also that the witch queen's magic were part of the birth of Tyros, since the priestking on his own failed without her help. Or "failed" - if i remember right, i think the abysmal remnant was the result of his first attempt but i'm not sure anymore ^^ Love these stories, joel bylos crafted us a masterpiece.

This video was recommended to me while I never had a great knowledge nor interest in Conan as I was very little exposed to it and even went out of my way to see the original conan movie for culture's sake which did began to pick my interest along the occassional Conan Exiles recommended. But that video appeared and directly appealed for my love of dark demonic ancient civilisations in fantasy and got me hooked to the lore now so I'm happy to have found that video out! I'm eager to hear more about all of the demon gods but also demons in general along with the stories of Stygia which has grabbed my interest

Curious if there is a good RPG version of this out there to play, honestly hate playing humans in games but this is one of the only settings id play a human in.
It annoys me to no end every time the Kull movie refers to the restoration of "ancient Acheron." That's what you get when you take a plot from a Conan story and set it in the Thurian age.
Awesome history lesson thank you teacher. Love your content it has already become a daily ritual listening to your conan lore videos. Thank you for researching and presenting this knowledge.
This is great! Do you have plans to tackle the Khari civilization? I know they're pretty much only mentionned in Conan Exiles but the idea of a proto-stygian people is interesting as all hell.
Well I mean between this video and the Giant Kings one we covered the Lemurians and Khari (with in a Hyborian context) fully. I wouldn’t mind devoting a a video to where they come from, but the Exiles wiki really does say it all. “They were a slave nation [under acheron] that would later birth Stygian culture”. I wouldn’t mind doing a video on lifestyle in Conan and doing a section of the video on slavery tho.
@@GrimDarkHalfOff Or perhaps as a small chapter in a bigger video on Stygia? I believe that UFO you speak of in Conan exile is actually more of a Sky map of some solar system as Dagon says the Lemurians asked him knowledge of the star and he gave it to them in that fashion
"Hyboria" is not a place, it's an age (and an ancestoral ethnic group), the continent is the Thurian continent for Kull and Conan; that's just me nitpicking. Thank you for the videos, keep em coming.
Hyboria is a fictional supercontinent created by Robert E. Howard which first appeared in "The Phoenix on the Sword". The "Hyborian Age" is literally named after Hyboria.

In Greek myth, Tartarus is, unless I’m mistaken, basically the bottom most, most dangerous and inhospitable level of the underworld. The Acheronian city of Tartarus is located in Argos, which would later go on to become the civilisation of Greece. As such, my theory is that the Argosseans, later, the Greeks, saw the Acheronian empire as literal hell, with its most impregnable military capital as the worst part of the whole empire, which they’d later go on to immortalise in their mythology.
Hi, just wanted to say this is an amazing video but I needed to know something specific from the timestamp 39:30 circa...which UFO are you talking about? I haven't visited the Sunken City fully yet so I'm not sure which ruin or construct you are referring to
I really enjoy the Conan videos but was wondering if you could cover the time when Conan had to fight shemagoreath? I know it doesn’t have really anything to do with the exiles game but it still seems like a cool event that’s not covered very well. Thank you for the videos.
I mean the black goat with a thousand young is a fertility God. Also might as well point out the greek god Aphroditie is a very late adition to the Helianic pantheon and basically a greek adoption of Istar into their pantheon due to contact via trade routes So now you can picture both Istar and Aphroditie as warped lovecraftian gods pumping out darkyoung offspring.
Her beauty is purely subjective, it makes totally sense that Shub Niggurath coikd take a beautiful form, keeping in line with her fertility goddess nature.
Hi, I really love these lore videos and tend to return to them often, they remind me of the history documentaries I used to watch as a kid and I would marvel at every bit of trivia about ancient cultures. Regarding the placement of Python, didn't "Old Stygia" encompass Shem as well? That way it's not unlikely for Python to be located there, maybe somewhere near the border with Stygian proper?

Always a fan of "Dark" Empire/Kingdoms/Civilizations. An entire empire based off of demon worship and human sacrifice and dark magics. Is pretty epic! Stared playing Conan Exiles a year ago and absolutely love the giant king's culture and architecture.
Your voice reminds me of this, am I the only one? "The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides, now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by 4000 years of total war"
You know I really do have to wonder, how exactly do you fit the Khari, described in Conan Exiles as essentially the precursors and former inhabitants of Stygia, into this whole narrative? From what I understood, the Giant kings were the original inhabitants of Stygia, and the sailing of Lemurians from their sinking islands in the east of the continentto Stygia in its center and then back to the Exiled lands which should be in Hyperboria/Turan is a geographic nightmare.
I once read a theory that proposed something on the lines of Xalthar, son of Tyros and Telith from Conan Exiles, having something to do with either the founding of Acheron or the Acheronian royal line. Have you heard of this theory, and what is your opinion on it?
I don't see REH's novel the Hour of the Dragon in the source list. It is the most complete source of lore on Xaltotun and the priest kings of Acheron in the Hyborian Age. It's also a great adventure story demonstrating the heroism and sorcery in Robert Ervin Howard's literary world.

Your videos are the reason i'm getting my feet into all things Conan and weired tales!!. Pluss this video just proves even more how GRRM has been inspired by Robert E howards work for for his take on Asshai by the shadow and 'the others' as otherwordley peoples ;). thanks man
Was much better than i expected. Worth the wait. I will watch it again with a notepad on the side.
I would like to know more about Acheron's military,a in depth video detailing the different units, weapons, chain of command, military doctrine.
I love this lore please don't stop I learn so much from here conan is so awesome thanks for ur hard work grim
Bro this i just discovered you and I love your channel. It's just a great video!
Hey love these long videos that I can play in the background well worldbuilding for my d&d/pathfinder game. What would be the best Conan TTRPG? Curious if there is a good RPG version of this out there to play, honestly hate playing humans in games but this is one of the only settings id play a human in.
Awesome, I just found you yesterday too and your presentation style is awesome
It annoys me to no end every time the Kull movie refers to the restoration of "ancient Acheron." That's what you get when you take a plot from a Conan story and set it in the Thurian age.
Acheron Should Rise Again
I agree!
THE F you say!
8 bet their version of "Dixie" is just a random AC song
@@alexandarvoncarsteinzarovi3723 i shed what i shed
It is.
The demonic elite are trying to bring them into this world.
You are going to be huge one day man keep up the good work you are going places
Awesome history lesson thank you teacher. Love your content it has already become a daily ritual listening to your conan lore videos. Thank you for researching and presenting this knowledge.
Brilliant. Every time you post I get excited to fire up my private server and explore/build. Thank you!
That’s why I do it!
I know you've talked about them too in different videos but the same kind of minor issue arises, the lore discussion is scattered across many vids. In any case, keep up the good work. Already looking forward to the next video. :)
@@MrJingui I like the Stygia idea! I’ve been meaning to do solo human culture videos for a while!
Lots to think about. Thank you.
What's the name of the music in the opening?
As someone that only reads the Conan pulp comics this is a wonderful channel! I might have to check out Exiles.
the 'pope hat' is pronounced like fighter but with an m at the beginning, therefore, miter/mitre= mighter
Thanks for the help! My mom is Catholic, but I’ve only ever been in a cathedral once.
Ah shoot, here we goooo!!!
Been waiting for this one!
I believe that UFO you speak of in Conan exile is actually more of a Sky map of some solar system as Dagon says the Lemurians asked him knowledge of the star and he gave it to them in that fashion
Yep
3:40 "...venerate their ancestors was through worship, Lamborghini, KNOWLEDGE!"
"Hyboria" is not a place, it's an age (and an ancestoral ethnic group), the continent is the Thurian continent for Kull and Conan; that's just me nitpicking. Thank you for the videos, keep em coming.
Do you have a Twitter handle I can tag?
Hyboria is a fictional supercontinent created by Robert E. Howard which first appeared in "The Phoenix on the Sword".
The "Hyborian Age" is literally named after Hyboria.
@@SquirrelGamez negative, go read "The Hyborian Age" Robert E Howard and get back to me, or just keep being a condescending asshole, and be wrong, idgaf
Lol at you both who say that hyperboria isn't a place! Learn that HYPERBOREA comes from the conjoint Hellenic word Υπέρ βόρεια , which means Upper North ,that means the northern part of the North! It refers to the lands of Scandinavia where the ancient Greeks had bases and the existence of hyperborean god Apollo !
Hyboria is the same as hyborean.
@@kafrikotroll8610 wrong again, yes "Hyperborea" is a place, I never said it wasn't, however "Hyboria" is not; but again another babbling jackass. I have the same homework for you,...read the source material "The Hyborian Age" Robert E Howard.
Source for the Hyboria map you use? I also love it.
I haven't visited the Sunken City fully yet so I'm not sure which ruin or construct you are referring to
Don’t worry I was being an idiot, it’s the star charts found in the sunken city
That is a good research you did about the another Empire What other civilization from the hyborean age you want to talk about next
idk. I'm kinda working on a homebrew Warhammer 40,000BC right now
@@GrimDarkHalfOff that sounds cool
Ah I´ve eagerly awaited this one
It geniuenly never occured me Conan had so much lore, holy shit
I love your videos, I listen to them on my commute back in forth from work. 🎉
Great to hear!
Just stumbled across this awesome TH-cam channel and love all the content!!!!!
This was an awesome video, it really has inspired my own world building
I really enjoyed this one. Had me captivated the whole way.
I really enjoy the Conan videos but was wondering if you could cover the time when Conan had to fight shemagoreath? I know it doesn’t have really anything to do with the exiles game but it still seems like a cool event that’s not covered very well. Thank you for the videos.
The way the world is going I'm convinced the Conan universe is set in the future after the reset.
Conan stories are set in the future
Very impressive! Where did you find this lore? Amazing 😮
I just subscribed thanks for making these videos I love the Conan lore
Huh... Never thought Isthar could be another avatar/name for Shub-Niggurath. Welp, there goes me envisioning her as a goddess of beauty. XD
Useless godess anyway :-)
I mean the black goat with a thousand young is a fertility God.
Also might as well point out the greek god Aphroditie is a very late adition to the Helianic pantheon and basically a greek adoption of Istar into their pantheon due to contact via trade routes
So now you can picture both Istar and Aphroditie as warped lovecraftian gods pumping out darkyoung offspring.
Acheron, may that accursed kingdom forever stay lost and forgotten, to be eternally condemned to the annals of history, under the designation of "extinct"
grim dark's content is just so good
This is awesome i love learning about the lore of conan i would love to see more of the khari empire the predecessors of the stygian empire and also the ones who enslaved thousands of different races and tribes along with the lemurians
Good job King. Keep pumping that iron!
Another amazing lore video. Love it.
Great stuff man, keep it up.
Its insulting you aren't an actual voice actor, you would be amazing
Oh hell yeah! Didn't realize it would be out this quick lol.
What is the computer rendered footage from at the beginning?
As someone who knows nothing of Conan, this sounds like a fucking drug trip fueled fever dream........
Love it.
Amazing work. I am hooked...
More Conan lore, hell yea!
56 minutes of grim, can’t wait to hear ur voice
Suffice to say the prehistoric times consisted of much, much treasure.
And modern times consists of many things far beyond the conceptual capabilities of primitive humans.
I’m so using this as inspiration for a Pathfinder game.
Have you read the D&D 3e books about "Conan"? They're very detailed.
No but I’ll look into it!
Is the background ground music around the end like in 40:00 from the video game Journey?
Cool.
Damn, I didn't know Conan the Barbarian was such a dark and fucked up setting, very interesting.
Always a fan of "Dark" Empire/Kingdoms/Civilizations. An entire empire based off of demon worship and human sacrifice and dark magics. Is pretty epic! Stared playing Conan Exiles a year ago and absolutely love the giant king's culture and architecture.
Good we have a video on that too!
Grim Dark….I’ve never prayed tooh yhough befowugh! 😂 I love this channel!
Again another great narration 🙏🏻
I could not help but feel a shiver a fear ripple up my spine when hearing of this foul civilization.
Congratulations you are the first person who actually had the reaction I hoped people would 👍🏼
It was the exact opposite for me,I would enjoy Acheron. Xaltoltun sent me.
Just stumbled onto your channel. Fantastic content, bud!
I would enjoy living there,my kind of place. I've been called Demonic.
8:03 more maps like this plz
Who crucified Goro? How did they crucify Goro?
CHRIST - FATALITY!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I rant hum in the next Mk game. Hell, I want Conan in an MK game
I been waiting to play a "English longbowman/Robbin wood" kind character on gurps Conan. What would be the best choice of Nation for my character?
Bossonian or Gunderman
Goro finally found someone worse than himself, hence crucifixion.
Make Acheron Great Again!
Please do dnd lore videos!!
Your voice is meant for it
Movie trailer voice.
Good stuff.
what game is that video of in the intro?
Age of Conan 2008. It’s free!
i need a make acheron great again hat
And I want a merch store!
Great book, Xaltotun was Conan's most formidable opponent.
You should work for Funcom
Make Acheron great again lol
