Of course, a "GPU comparison site" run by the retailer of all the products on the site is a clear conflict of interest to begin with, but I guess that shows just how much Newegg cares about fostering well-informed consumers.
If companies are having trouble getting rid of GPUs, I volunteer to take a few off of their hands, and I won't even charge them money to remove the e-waste.
Step 1) Legitimate company gets bought out by illegitimate company Step 2) Illegitimate company does illegitimate business things to make as much money as they can without regard for anything else Step 3) Customers stop, company gets sold again to someone else less experienced with step 2 This is pure synergy, thinking outside the box, and a pivot to a new normal paradigm by circling back.
They are trying to yield a profit in a market where literally no one really wants to buy a GPU right now, especially with news of the next generation cards coming out in October.
@@stayblueee Really frustrating for someone like me who does want a gpu, but am still getting gouged in some last attempt as if people dont know the market changed. newegg-"hey instead of lowering prices to get rid of near obsolete stock, lets dump money into a new site that will try to justify us keeping our margins high."

@@GamersNexus I see a future where PSU's are extremely scarce and the only way to get one from Newegg is in a shuffle that makes you buy a 30 or 60 series GPU.

With how much GN seems to be benefitting from Newegg doing dumb things it might make one start seeing conspiracies. Expect the evidence is that GN has integrity.
When I was growing up, Newegg had such a strong reputation. It felt dumb not to get components there. Sad to see how far they've fallen. They need leadership who understand the value of reputation, and understand that propaganda doesn't win you any respect when your market is full of technically-inclined people. Anyone who has taken a high-school statistics course has been given a speech on misleading graphs
Sears traded a century of reputation amongst consumers and employees for a quick payday in the nineties, and now they barely exist. Craftsman used to be the most trusted and reliable midtier tool brand, and they used that reputation to sell all higher prices while slapping production costs by making crap products out of crap materials, and within five years they were a joke. Leaning on an earned reputation to blow up short term profits by cutting costs only benefits CEOs that have golden parachutes and can claim they increased profits by 400% in two quarters, leaving out that it resulted in the company going out of business. It's end game capitalism at it's finest.
@@Hotobu Gamers Nexus did a video on Micro Center and they seem great. They have physical locations, which I've been to in the past and had positive experiences with. I'm composing a letter to Newegg letting them know that I was literally about to purchase a GPU from them until I watched this video along with your previous investigation. I've told them that they are nothing short of a bunch of crooks who belong in a courtroom defending themselves over a variety of of charges. These criminals just keep getting away with it. It's really funny that GN, specifically Steve, literally handed them the rope to pull themselves out of the hole Newegg dug themselves into with scummy tactics and still manages to find a way to hang themselves with it. It's like the guy who once robbed you barehanded trying to rob you wearing gloves now, but you still know who it is because you can still see their face. Way to go Newegg, now you've managed to lose even more trust from possible consumers and it's not like they had much to begin with.
Imagine they were dumping thousands into this probably a year ago when they started building this site. Just for Steve to put them on blast as they're trying to release this site.
@@BeHappyTo Essentially, to just stop being so inept while offering insights on how to achieve that and how best to win back consumer confidence. Basically Steve was trying to kind of help them save themselves so other companies don't have more of a monopoly on being a PC parts supplier. Pretty much took that advice and ran the other way with it.
No no, you misunderstood. JustGPU isn’t about accurate information, it’s about making sure people click through and buy. I’m sure they tested that part very thoroughly.
So strange that they've gone from my go-to place to buy hardware since the early-mid 2000s to someone I don't really trust and will attempt to avoid each time I need a computer part. Very unfortunate for the personal computer enthusiast industry. I've purchased literally every part for a PC for multiple personal builds over the last 15+ years. Now I'd be worried that I'd get a broken part and they'd blame me. That is a far cry from the service I'd used to get, such as a new PSU taking a dump after five days and them sending me a replacement with very few questions asked.
That's what often happens when companies change ownership. Sometimes it can lead to improvements but often it's a downgrade. In this case we know the service issues that have been reported and the forced bundling of products with GPUs. So this is just the latest step in downgrading the company.
It works though, that's why. For the price of a few underpaid employees who make this site they gain many, many idiot buyers. 90% of people who buy GPUs aren't tech literate. Or even have an IQ in the triple digits.
That's just how they operate these days. Whoever owns them now clearly doesn't care about the previous reputation they once had, but rather they only care about making money with as little effort as possible. They live by that sword and they'll die by that sword.

When it comes down to protecting PC enthusiasts and consumers and when compared to other outlets, GN is a 10-slot TH-cam channel running at 7000MHz that measures 1 meter long! (Note: These numbers are approximations.) Thanks again for more great work!
LOL... I've noticed that too. It's like going to a Toyota dealership, and the salesman would be like: "Hey, don't buy this Lexus RX 350, that Corolla SE is better!"
Maybe they're hoping for repeat purchases once the 40-series releases, and they're downplaying performance so that when the new gen comes out, they can make the gap look bigger, and people who bought a card only to have it immediately "obsolete" might be tempted to re-upgrade? Not sure what else makes sense. Or maybe on the low end, crap cards like the 6400 aren't selling compared to the 6600.
Prob find they want to shift much higher inventory of the lower end cards than high end, so tell non-savvy visitors that a $450 card will run games at same frame rate as a $2000, they will think they got one hell of a deal saving $1500 to get exact same performance.
You'd think if anything they'd make the high end look better since those cards are imminently getting the old yeller treatment while the mid and low end will stick around for longer.
They probably have most excess inventory with some of the lower end cards like the RX6400 considering how bad some of them are. As expensive as the 3080/6800XT level cards are, they at least perform well, whereas the low end cards are literally worse than a used RX570.

Also, I can't help but point out how a bar chart for comparing 2 things is least useful when the bars start at the same point then spread apart. The point of comparisons is to see both tips of the bars side by side, not as far apart as possible. If you're trying to use a chart to visualize data then spreading the number values as far from eachother as will fit on the screen is the diametric opposite of that goal. It accomplishes data visualisation in literally the worst possible way imaginable. I can't even think up a sarcastic way of making a chart less useful than spreading values apart to compare them especially without grids, scales, or any context whatsoever. Even pie charts would be more useful graphic representations of comparisons in this case. Thank god we don't need to compare real data though, given the numbers were made up and rounded estimates based off of unrelated synthetic benchmark (singular, not plural) anyway lol. TLDR this should be illegal. How is consumer protection bureau not all over this? You can't just play dumb and pretend this is an honest mistake, they're intending to mislead consumers that a triple slot card is better than a dual slot card, as if you're paying for real estate. they aren't stuck with them... they just don't want to lose their margin on them. They could easily get rid of their stock if they introduced price reductions like retailers who have a surplus of product have been doing for centuries.
I don't think it'll be dead inventory. It'll sell after stock of the new stuff is gone and the prices drop. Why would they drop the prices before they relea as the next gen?
they have done some aggressive price reductions on some of their products. But they should do more. As others have said, the longer those old cards sit there the less they'll be worth. Unless crypto makes a huge comeback and doesn't move to proof of stake
As an Australian, it’s always funny seeing this kind of stuff happening overseas. Our consumer law watchdog (the ACCC) would absolutely SLAM DOWN on retailers doing this sort of stuff. Interestingly enough, one of our biggest retailers (PC Case Gear) actually just put links to Gamers Nexus or Hardware Unboxed reviews/comparisons on the page for big or popular products to allow people to make up their own mind when they compare it to other products.
Pccasegear also refuse returns for unfit for purchase products and advertise as in stock products that haven't entered the country yet. Their communication is bad, they take months to warranty a single motherboard and their customer service is horrible and uninterested in helping the customer. Careful who you trust just because of them using GN videos in their product listings.
PC Case Gear have recently refunded a faulty mobo I bought from them with no drama. Compared to dodgy retailers like PLE they are very good. They seem somewhat legit.
Thank you guys for always showing us what is up with the shady doings of Newegg. Instead, they try to pass this website off as its own entity, while the teeny tiny text on the bottom of the web page is right there for everyone to not see.
the frustrating thing about the whole 1440p=2K thing is that its not only wrong (2K is 1080p, 1440p is 2.5K [assuming a ~16:9 aspect ratio]) but most people consider it to be a small enough detail as to think its not worth correcting
Not to mention HD, 4K etc are meaningless marketing terms for most part Ya fellow “resolution nerd” here too, it’s funny how few people understand what those numbers mean
I mean 1080p is 2 073 600 pixels. 1440p is 3 686 400 so a 77.77% increase, not small at all 2k is 2 211 840 pixel and so a increase from 1080p of 6.66%... So yeah not a small rounding error
Even 4k isn't really 4k: the term is from cinema packaging where the aspect ratio is different for every title, so they measure by fitting it in a 2:1 aspect box and measuring the width, because most cinema is larger than 2:1 and thus is limited by the width. So in short, 4k is supposed to be fitting a 4096x2048 box, not the 3840x2160 resolution that is actually the continuation of the computer/TV resolutions and nothing to do with cinema packaging.
It's started by ether OPPO or OnePlus, I don't remember know exactly. And then picked up by many uneducated marketing managers, which are still hijacking 2K article on Wiki, reverting all edits.

Userbenchmark, GPUboss and JustGPU, the top misleading websites of benchmarking! Good job GN. Time to expose more bad practices. Newegg could give space for others to screw over tho lmao.
Userbenchmark is good only to check if your PC is performing as expected because you can compare your CPU/GPU/HDD/SSD performance to other users that benchmarked the same components, it isn't perfect as other people may test parts that are overclocked or benchmark them while doing something in background making the average score go up and down a little bit, but it is simple and relatively fast test I like to do on PCs. However, yes, for comparing between multiple CPU or GPU models it truly is misleading as many times it does not represent true difference in performance. Intel CPUs usually have higher average score that AMD counterparts even though they perform similarly in gaming or productivity. Different GPU architecture have weird average scores too, RX 6600 have a score of 77.7% while RTX 2060 have 88.5%, which doesn't make any sense when in gaming RX 6600 performance is closer to RTX 3060, definitely higher than a 2060.
Hey, at 10:30 in the video when you compare 4 different cards to show that they all have the same fps results on their site you put the data of the RX6600 XT twice instead of a RX6700 XT in the bottom left. NewEgg is stuck with a bunch of GPU's they intended to sell to miners? So sad too bad. They best mark them down below cost and sell them in a hurry before the next generation hits the shelves. If it puts them out of business I'll try to not laugh too hard. We also know that the big SI's had little if any issues with card inventory and that the enterprise world had no issues getting cards. Where in the stream were the miners getting the cards? Were the AIB partners selling to them directly? Were the big online only retailers diverting them? Does anyone really believe it was bots buying them off websites anymore?
Let's be real here, Nvidia, AIB's, and OEM's were selling directly to mining firms. Can i prove that in a court of law? It's pretty clear even with the price cuts from nvidia that they have a massive inventory of nvidia cards and the only way to make them sell better is to just make them overall better in their own "benchmarks". AMD cards, after the latest driver update, have had a massive boost in performance across all the gpu's they produce making them more bang for the buck compared to nvidia. Amazing how Gamers Nexus put more work in investigating JustGPU than Newegg spent developing it..
Something-something, you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.

A strange phenomenon I've noticed at 5:36 is that Apex stays exactly at 140 fps no matter the resolution and the cpu selected. Same with Elden Ring but at 60 fps. There's others that didn't seem to change much at all as well.
Elden Ring makes sense since it's locked to 60 fps... But then why include it in the first place?
When it comes down to protecting PC enthusiasts and consumers and when compared to other outlets, GN is a 10-slot TH-cam channel running at 7000MHz that measures 1 meter long! (Note: These numbers are approximations.) Thanks again for more great work!
But only runs games at 60fps on New Egg’s - sorry! just GPU- benchmarks
I'd say they run at over 9000 MHz 😉
The icing on the cake is how their approximated numbers make GPU's appear to have worse performance scaling. Genius method to sell high end GPUs!

Even pie charts would be more useful graphic representations of comparisons in this case.

the frustrating thing about the whole 1440p=2K thing is that its not only wrong (2K is 1080p, 1440p is 2.5K [assuming a ~16:9 aspect ratio]) but most people consider it to be a small enough detail as to think its not worth correcting
Don't even get me started on how many "no, you're wrong!!!" I've gotten for trying to explain to people that 2k is 1080p.
Not to mention HD, 4K etc are meaningless marketing terms for most part
Ya fellow “resolution nerd” here too, it’s funny how few people understand what those numbers mean
I mean 1080p is 2 073 600 pixels. 1440p is 3 686 400 so a 77.77% increase, not small at all
2k is 2 211 840 pixel and so a increase from 1080p of 6.66%...

@@hubertnnn they are super niche websites
@@hubertnnn There are. Technically you aren’t allowed to lie in order to sell a product.

Newegg is owned by Chinese , so reputable is not a word to associated with them . sorry they never have been reputable ever , I been let down many times by them , every monitor I bought from them failed after 30 days , they refuse to refund even tho it took 3 weeks to ship , I only had for 1 week , total scam Chinese company. Avoid .
@@skywalker1991 Not owned by Chinese, it was a merger, huge difference.
This would be alright if the data was correct, but this is downright slimy. Would this theoretically count as false advertising?
That little disclaimer of the numbers being an approximation makes it so its not which is total BS. Everything serves these huge companies that are in every politicians pocket.
It should, but unfortunately their disclaimer about the benchmarks being estimations probably frees them of any legal recourse.
@@mwborger7 yeah youre probably right, i wish you couldnt pull numbers out of your ass and just add a little disclaimer which males it okay
@@mwborger7 Imagine laws being so flimsy that as long as you say "estimation" you're free to estimate it as loosely as you please. I bet the next thing they'll try and get away with is "estimating" the charge to your credit card.

Yeah, still false advertising. Laziness is the simplest, best case scenario and does not excuse misleading customers. If you cant take the effort to produce accurate information, you should STFU when marketing or selling your product imo
Hey Steve you should have a go at BEST BUY for their scummy practices during the launch of the 4090. They cancelled my order for no reason

Unfortunately, I do know techs who actually use the term 2k to refer to 1440p. I really wish I could dissuade them, but they're stuck in their ways.
Steve: how scummy could a website get?
Newegg: back to you Steve.

i love how their selling points are ''check out the FPS this card has on this game, over this card on the same game'' because they know that a lot of computer buyers dont know much about computers and usually think that more fps equal better. instead of explaining what actually makes one card better over another and why.
NewEgg is stuck with a bunch of GPU's they intended to sell to miners? So sad too bad. They best mark them down below cost and sell them in a hurry before the next generation hits the shelves. If it puts them out of business I'll try to not laugh too hard.
No one has ever adequately dealt with the fact that we know how many chips were made and how many cards, roughly, were made for these GPU's but those numbers are far, far higher than the numbers of cards that reached retailers or that online only retailers like NewEgg put on their website for consumers to buy.
No. But I don't need to, all we need to do is sit back and watch Nvidia's earnings call. Which is right around the corner and scheduled for the 24th of this month. Just kick back grab a 🍺 some 🍿
"Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is slated to report its second-quarter results for fiscal 2023 (the May to July 2022 period) after the market closes on Wednesday, Aug. 24. An analyst conference call is scheduled for the same day at 5 p.m. ET."
www.nasdaq.com/articles/nvidia-earnings%3A-what-to-watch-on-aug.-24
For smaller, 10-20 card operations, probably. Bots aren't hard to run, after all.
As with everything that's happening at-scale, it's a bit of everything. Bots bought up the public stock, distributors sold directly to miners, etc. It all happened.
It's funny to me when people act like this is some kind of secret illegal activity or that they caught companies up in somthing....They sell products, they don't care who is buying them and gAmErS don't deserve them more than anyone else

They keep falling down the never ending stairs from Mario 64.
As a 30 year PC gamer, I have NEVER bought anything from New Egg. Thanks for qualifying my decision buying.
those greedy retailers in Europe still want $1000 for 3080
Since Newegg is pretty much already making up these benchmark numbers, I'm suprised they didn't show larger scaling to upsell their products.

I think the "userbench" category "emotional value" is more useful than this website
Heh it is hard to enforce false advertising laws on something like this, but it's really something that should be done
All that money they have made with those huge markups can buy anything, including laws not applying to them. It's BS that they can flat out lie but oh they had fine print and the bottom of the page saying they are lying so its ok!
It's in the fine print.
There is a disclaimer that it is estimated values and gets values from a software that...estimates values. So any data that is "wrong" can't be used against them.
Clearly NewEgg knows better than the consumers. But what do I know I've only been with this industry for 13 years now.

"boss, we have too much inventory, we need to shift it. do we get rid of it by respecting our customers and giving them what they want?"
"no, fetch my degree in web design"
NZXT has had a similar set of "benchmarks" to show the relative difference between parts they offer for a while now. Their numbers don't look any better than Newegg's. I assume other integrators and sellers have similar "services"

Super happy to have such in depth reviewers hitting the stuff that I need to know to get into computers after a 10 year break. Always looking out for the next upload and thanks for the warnings so far.
Thank you so much for doing this. It is so helpful for knowledgeable sites, such as yours, to hold sellers and producers to account. Sadly there are going to be many people who fall for these predatory tactics. I'm disappointed in Newegg, but not surprised.
I've tried to stay away from Newegg here in Canada. I've found them shady and have always told people I speak to that they should steer clear of them as there are many better options available.
Memory Express is pretty good. Heck, they've been around a long time and I picked up my 3090 from them at near MSRP when converted to CAD a year ago or so.
I built half a dozen PCs with parts from new egg. We don’t have any thing other than Best Buy in south Florida. If you know your stuff and what it should price out at they are nothing but fed ex. If you don’t know your stuff I 100% agree Newegg is not where you should be clicking.
Yeah. Newegg had really declined over the last 10 years so.
@@rmmcgann This is true for me too (LA). But, where else is there besides Amazon? These youtube/reviews get stuff sent to them to review and use. You can't purchase directly from most manufactures. Most of them direct you to Newegg. What choice do we have?
It's pretty clear even with the price cuts from nvidia that they have a massive inventory of nvidia cards and the only way to make them sell better is to just make them overall better in their own "benchmarks". AMD cards, after the latest driver update, have had a massive boost in performance across all the gpu's they produce making them more bang for the buck compared to nvidia. This is why nvidia cards which most stores have a massive inventory of are trying to milk most of what they can before they inevitably just start collecting dust as the newest generation comes in.
