i met Chris in my mid teens in one of the local record shops in Kendal in the Lakes (Lake District, an hourish from Manchester ; ) we bonded over the punk rock records, years of fun, friends and adventures, one of if not the most sweet natured lovely fellow i've known, much loved and sorely missed.
I met Chris before a concernt at the bier keller in Bristol in 1989 or 1990. I was wondering to the venue and some people stopped me to ask for any good nearby pubs, and I noticed that they were wearing lush lanyards but I didn;t recognise him, so I asked what the lanyards were for, and he said he was "the drummer in a band called lush" and he and the roadies were going for a drink. We ended up having quite a long chat, and all had a good laught about it. bless him.
He comitted suicide in 1996, so if he was reincarnated right away, he'd be 24 years old now. I hope he's been able to see past the bullshit and just get on with life this time.
I haven't finished reading yet, but in her memoir, I saw that Miki said something about Chris normally being a happy guy and therefore not knowing how to deal with depression, and that the risk of suicide in men is heightened around the time they turn 30.
It's a pity the history of Lush is primarily detailed through Miki. Chris is absolutely brilliant, but there's so little footage of him talking to camera. The lad is so characterful and articulate.
This video clip! What an unexpected find! I used to love Lush. I didn't catch them when they were in NYC back in 1990. But I did see them at the Ritz in '92 with Babes in Toyland. They looked like beautiful rock stars and naturally everyone was in love with Miki. It's so cool seeing them prior to that. They just look like a couple of kids I'd see going to a show on the subway. Sigh... bitter sweet.
back in the day over a landline a guy said “lush/gala” was top 15 for college. love it to this day, everything good of course, drums totally drive it all. got to see ride open for them gothic theater in colorado. miki said they were off to make ride babies. ride used only one strobe light
Depression can manifest itself as highs and lows, with the highs making the lows more bearable. If that balance changes for the worse, there's trouble ahead. Anti-depressants tend not to work long term and can have nasty side effects, some of which can be tempered with even more medication. When one stops working, another or a combination then needs to be trialed, which is a risk because if they don't work, or are counterproductive, they can push someone over the edge.

Man, these Chris and Miki interviews are great to watch! What a funny guy, so sad he was depressed, probably hid it well too.

he wasn't depressed at this point yet
public face vs true face.

and when does Emma ever talk? but when a band has a front, in this case Mikki, its always the front doing the talking. that's just how it works.
RIP Chris indeed
Great band. Good moments. Cute Miki. Rest in peace Chris.
Always have a soft spot for Chris, he took me for a night out with Lush :)

I didn't know that Chris had passed away RIP💔🥁🎶😢 reading Lush lyrics, I'm not surprised 👀😔 very introspective..😎🎶📻🎤 love Mikki ❤
Miki is so effin cute here. "There weren't any fish abused in this was there?" "No we took them out for drinks afterwards" lol
i bet that was expensive, drinking like a fish and all.
At the time, I loved (and still love) them so much!! Thanks for the video!
Such a delightful and cute couple. I wish Chris was still with us.
i love what he does with his hands

gothic theater in colorado. miki said they were off to make ride babies.
ride used only one strobe light
This reads like it was written under the influence of something, but I'm not quite sure what.
Love Lush. So cool to hear Pale Saints supported them. Amazing bands both.
thanks, great band
Good honest stuff - love early Lush :)))) RIP Chris - good lad.
Nice to see this. Chris is open and joking.
Why'd you do it, kid?
I like that sofa.
normie 80´s sofa
Why don't you buy it at auction then?
Aw man, Chris seems like such an upbeat and fun guy here. I just can't understand how he must've fallen to the black dog.

Were Miki and Chris still dating at this point?
