    What exactly are your qualifications in the "pet food industry"? Because it appears to me you're just a science diet shill. Dogs get their energy from protein, not carbs. They need a high protein diet. They THRIVE on a high protein diet.

      Puzzle Guy is upfront that he worked for Hill's and prefers it to most other brands. I would say proponent more than a shill. He is on vacation with his grandkids. He will reply.

      Lifesaver, my responsibility for 34 years was training vets and their teams on therapeutic nutrition and also how to maneuver thru the pet food marketing. I was trained by the very people who did the research and formulated the diets, most board certified vet nutritionists. As a non vet, and not the sharpest tool in the shed, some of the most complicated science was over my head. I date myself that I was even trained by Dr Mark Morris Jr. (Probably means nothing to you.) Every day I was in clinics and most importantly saw the amazing results of these diets. And again, in 34 years you see all the marketing gimmicks and tricks. I even remember in 1987 when Purina pulled the “chicken as the 1st ingredient” gimmick and look at it today! So you can trust Dr Karen Becker types and be a devout acolyte but the fact is protein is the least efficient source of energy for a dog. Fat and carbs are much more effective. And not just energy, but carbs provide valuable fatty acids and surprise, even some amino acids! And also dietary fiber for GI health. Again, you can believe self promoting characters who actually have no nutritional credentials and disagree with the qualified experts who have saved pets lives for decades and can show the record of it, but dogs do not need high protein. They need optimal protein. Sure, they will thrive on high protein…..till they don’t! If your dog is at risk of urinary stones or kidney disease, overtaxing those organs their whole life will prove to be deadly. did you watch the video? What part is not accurate? For what purpose? To satisfy your beliefs or philosophy? Well, for better or worse, it’s our responsibility to do what we think is best. My channel is dedicated to helping people do that. I wish you and your pup good health!

    Wow, those numbers and comparisons made my jaw drop!!! This makes me so thankful I found out about Science Diet and the truth about all these other so-called "natural" brands that take advantage of people like me who are willing to do just about anything to keep my beloved dog and cats healthy and happy. I like the Pokemon decorations btw, brings back memories of when my teenage sons were younger and life was all about Pokemon. =)

    Could you do a video about the high heat cooking of kibble giving dogs cancer? Is this true. I see a lot about this lately. I have a Springer Spaniel going on 15 and she had kibble all her life and doesn’t have cancer.

    @The Pet Food Puzzle Guy what about total volume of food fed per day? It seems your method is only taking into account the concentration of nutrients within the food and not volume of particular nutrients consumed by the pet on a daily basis.

    • @George.J
      @George.J 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's why Glenn wanted to look at mg/100kcal instead of dry matter basis percentage because the former tells you the amount of nutrients per 100kcal the animal consumes.

      George just gave you the answer! As the industry moves away from real nutrition it will be harder and harder to compare food accurately. I suppose we could look at kcals pet kg of food to help determine if there’s a big calorie difference. Great observation though! I think I have the smartest folks on TH-cam, whether great questions or great answers!

    Ferrets are in that weird spot where veterinary literature recommends fresh kills (not frozen or thawed). Yet their metabolism is so high, they need 24/7 access to kibbles if you're not home to feed them since most people have a job.
    It's recommended to mix three brands of kibbles to avoid imprinting. They need high protein (40%+), low fat (around 10%-15%, but can be high as 30%).

    • @ZaryaTheLaika
      @ZaryaTheLaika 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If we're talking about optimal feeding, captive minks prefer less protein higher fat; whereas wild minks don't get that choice.
      So, same here applied re: captive wolves / domesticated dogs compared to wild wolves.

    • @ZaryaTheLaika
      @ZaryaTheLaika 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A good parallel would be veterinary nutritionists at Hill's, Royal Canin and Purina recommend wet food for cats, yet 87% of cat owners choose to feed dry.
      But yeah, ferrets are one of the few exceptions where veterinary nutritionists recommend a whole prey diet. Literally, mice, rats, rabbits, chicks.

    Happy New Year! I was beginning to wonder if you were spending more family time. If the time stamp on this video is correct, you were doing this in the middle of the night in Minnesota. What part? I have family in the cities and on the Iron Range. The protein requirements for cats start at the maximum level for dogs. (SACN). One food for both is crazy.
