It lacked tons and tons of Japanese games and western games as well. The gamecube was 🔥, but let's not be inaccurate here. A lot of games that people wanted just weren't there. A really great library but not a goated library like the PS2.

What Gamecube lacked was Nintendo's core philosophies (that were returned to with DS and Wii). But I'd also say the Gamecube did lack an appropriate number of games (about 1/7th the volume of PS2) and fell below the bar of interesting hardware features. And most of the games it did have were ports with missing features and missing content.
It does help that Furuwaka is leading the charge with the new philosophy for Nintendo. Good marketing maneuvers, quality software late in the system lif, and pursuits beyond the gaming bubble.
Definitely need a killer app at launch that tells people the new console is a must buy. Also, they need to keep up the cadence of the Switch releases. That includes the awesome indie and AA titles beside the AAA releases and ports. Im really excited to see what they do.

They kind of need the next gen switch to come out next year, they can’t afford to wait an extra year, the switch has long since needed stronger hardware, the regular switch is extremely outdated hardware and tech.
It will be interesting what Nintendo comes with to the table when it comes to hardware since successor hardware usually never beats the original. Normally their new concepts are what takeoff the most. I’m more interested in seeing what will make the new hardware special since an upgraded Switch alone would be quite boring and would definitely not sell anywhere near as much as the OG.

If the Switch does have a final form I can imagine it being a sort of "Micro Switch", no pun intended. I don't know if it could be possible, but imagine a Switch with the form factor and size equivalent to that of the PS Vita, it could be a great budget option for some people.
The NDS did beat the PS2. Sony updated their numbers after the fact. It wasn't the WiiU that killed the Wii's momentum, it was the 3DS. Mario Party series sells 34M on Switch... not a big game. Metroid series sells 4M on Switch .... big game.
One think I would like to see Nintendo do (other that making games) is create a social media like feature just like they did with Miiverse and fully integrate that into all future systems.
Both were rushed out in 2020 when it wasn’t necessary, and now both companies are having a hard time keeping to a consistent release schedule. It has been a needless disaster as things stand.

i competely disagree that every companies have to have strong lineup because it doesn't matter to me if video game hardware has alot of games or don't have alot of games only having little bit of games i don't mind if some have little bit of games or alot of games i just love embrace it for what it is i don't see it as a bad thing at all and sales also don't matter to me eithr i know sales do matter to the majoritiy but i'm the only one that don't care about sales at all and i wanna say that my favorite underrated video game hardware sega dreamcast and new modern atari vcs 800 are not failures to me i don't care what nobody ay nobody can't not tell me otherwise i think dreamcast and vcs are the best great video game hardwares ever to me i love it better than playstation, xbox and nintendo that's just my preference i'm only a fan of sega and atari that's just me no matter what happen i will always love support my favorite characters that's just me

Xbox and PS5 have been crap this gen. Neither have released a lot of games. Lots of remasters and very few new games. My PS5 is collecting dust.
