I played this originally in 2005 when I was 32. Am now almost 50 and playing the new one. Was able to speedrun the original and play it on hardest difficulty with some ease. The new one definitely still has the same charm as the original, although all the tricks I once knew don't work anymore lol. Oh well, I'll learn the new tricks hehe. Glad you're enjoying yourself . Resident Evil had a shaky run for a while between RE5 and RE6. It didn't really come back until Revelations 2.

Not going to watch the video to avoid spoilers but I started the game yesterday and am loving it so far. I rinsed the original on PS2/GameCube/Wii and the subtle changes whilst keeping the core of the game similar is working so far. Just got to the 1st merchant. The cockney accent and his reference to ‘me and the lads’ cracked me up.
I'm pretty close to the end, & I've been pleasantly surprised at how much better & darker it is than the original. Ppl like to pretend RE4 is an untouchable masterpiece like FF7, but that's cuz it broke ground, reinvented the series & invented the 3rd person over the shoulder camera angle. But playing the remake I am enjoying it much more. Except, well nowadays I'm much more jaded & sceptical with the whole industry. Understandably so. I haven't played RE4 since it came out, & I probably played it a dozen times. I used to play games repeatedly, but now I seem to be done after a playthrough & I'm not sure why. Anyway, good to see you playing a great game. I really hope I get to see you play FF16. I'm assuming you have a PS5 since you git them big youtube bucks. Your game reviews are what first brought me to your channel. Oh, BTW, in the RE series all of Europe is stuck in the 1600's, lol!
@Novo i think it was designed for GameCube first and ported poorly. I say this because the GameCube version had that special Chainsaw controller bundle.
After everything Drinker said, it kind of surprises me there isn't a survival horror zombie game where you're just a retired desert storm veteran who lives alone with a knife and revolver, and you wake up to absolute chaos as the first day of the zombie apocalypse starts in a small Midwestern town/city. Just trying to move as much as you can and get to the next area, pick up survivors, etc, and shift from building to building. Make it semi-linear, have some areas you can sneak through, have some areas where you can just light em up, and then have other places that give 0 chance. Yeah you can ignore the shadows coming through the windows and the ominous groaning, open up the front door, and waltz into the middle of the street... Probably won't make it very far though. You should probably grab those 2x4s, pop open a window, and climb across.
@@DL6379R Ya know that's pretty close but I feel like dead rising is way more on the action side than the survival horror side. Then again, I haven't played it in forever so I could be talking out my ass.
I'm still waiting on a good Deep South zombie game. Pop off some zombos under a willow tree, hoofing it to the fort you set up in an old plantation mansion, while the old creole granny who may or may not be a witch talks about the prebellum days like she was there for it. Between zombies' African folklore origins and the whole Civil War history of people playing God with who does and doesn't get to count as "human", there's tons of story potential for a Mississippi zombie story
Clearly ? Did you see her head get chopped ? They must have chopped a watermelon instead, hence the red liquid, even mind controlled zombie like humans can have a taste for melon 😂
You're so right about the 'zombies' in this game not being scary and the settings also. Raccoon City was relatable, and fun because it could very well happen in real life. The enemies in this were weird because they were still like humans, and the village just wasn't interesting. I only played the beginning of the original RE4 before giving up on it. And this was after being a die hard fan of 1-3. I did enjoy this remake - however the story is kind of ridiculous and random.
Now imagine playing the original on console, where you can't move while aiming and you have to aim with the left stick. No options for controller mapping neither. For me, it's basically impossible to go back to.
I understand the shivs in the Last of Us being so easy broken because they're essentially makeshift prison shanks. Those are usually good for one or two pokes before they fall apart. Actual professionally made knives though? It's a mechanic I really don't like.
I always hated that mechanic in TLOU. As if Joel wouldn't have a combat knife, or every single bad guy he killed wouldn't have one. Instead, we have to make shivs like we're in prison
@@plain_simple_garak Oh yeah it's annoying af in TLoU too, but at least there's some attempt to justify it in that game even if it is half hearted. Here combat knives are just a tier above prison pokers for some reason.

@Dtaysche Nah…There’s a difference between a “different” voice and just straight up bad voice acting.. Sure you can prefer the original merchants voice just like me but that doesn’t makes the new voice look bad … The voice acting for Ada is not decent which makes it look even more bad when you compare it to the other characters new voices in this remake…

i think the idea why the knife can break is if the knife is unbreakable, the game would be too easy cause you'll constantly be able to parry and get out of grabs instantly, its a challenge mechanic to be more careful when fighting enemies
It makes more sense with the parrying mechanic, true. It’s pretty sweet when you pull it off. Just like partying flaming arrows with the knife in RE5. Felt like Aragorn in the Fellowship.
