The lady is not mad. There are lots of Filipinos who talk like that as if they are shouting. We are used to that, some are because of their hypertension, while some are just because of their high energy😊. But I think the lady likes you and you just made her excited and eager😁🤭❤️

Jonathan, it is very easy to fall in love with you, warm, personable, smart yet humble and culturally adaptable especially to Islanders with their foods and spontaneity . You find Filipinos warm and nice because you also show respect and acceptance with whatever they can offer like greetings , smiles, and shows interest with everything around you .

Thanks for showcasing not just the place but the friendliness of the Pinoys Jonathan.
Adobo is our national dish in case you didn't know yet. Different regions cook it differently. Some even put coconut milk in it.. You can "adobo" almost anything actually. There's also Adobong Kangkong (water spinach), Adobong Hipon (shrimps), etc.
Music/singing is actually another passion of us Pinoys aside from basketball. Especially there. A lot of famous singers here hail from Cebu. There's even a place there where they make and sell guitars. But almost all Pinoys in all regions love music. That's why videokes are very popular here. You might not be familiar with Lea Salonga, but she is very famous in Broadway and the West End, being the first to play Miss Saigon and winning a Tony and Olivier Award for it. She also did the singing voices for Aladdin and Mulan in the Disney animated films. Also did some acting work in Hollywood, and many other prominent work in Broadway, recording and live performances. So i guess you could say she's the most famous Filipina singer in the world. :)

    • @travelescapesOFFICIAL
      @travelescapesOFFICIAL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

oh wow, she sang in Aladdin and Mulan?! That's huge. I'm checking her out now. I can tell that singing is a passion here! I play the guitar and really miss it when I take breaks from editing 😂 maybe I could find a super cheap used one around here. And I'll be trying adobo everywhere I go!

@@travelescapesOFFICIAL Nice to know you're into music as well..
Speaking of Adobo, here are my food recommendations. These are some of the classic Filipino dishes that i think you should try if you get the chance:
LECHON - whole roasted pig stuffed with herbs (eaten mostly on special occasions.)
SINIGANG - a sour stew; can be made with pork, shrimp or even salmon. It's also
Taste Atlas' World's Best Soup in 2021.
SISIG - chopped pig face with chillis and other herbs and spices. The late Anthony Bourdain raved about this dish when he came over here for his 'No Reservations' show.
LUMPIA - fried meat or veggie spring roll.
KARE-KARE - pig and cow parts (tail, tripe, etc.) with some veggies in peanut
sauce. It's eaten with a little Bagoong (shrimp paste) that compliments
      the creamy sauce.
DINUGUAN - pig blood stew with pork meat and innards. Some call it "chocolate meat"
coz of its dark brown color.
BULALO - beef marrow and shanks stew.
TINOLANG MANOK - chicken soup and meat with ginger and sayote.
CRISPY PATA - deep fried pork leg seasoned with special herbs and spices.
BICOL EXPRESS - pork stew with coconut milk and chillis.
PINAKBET - assorted veggies sauteed with Bagoong (shrimp paste).
KALDERETA - a thick beef stew with liver pate (or spread), potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers, etc. Some even put cheese (called CHEESY KALDERETA).
BISTEK - thin beef slices marinated in soy sauce, kalamansi (local lime) and spices, and cooked again with soy sauce and topped with lots of onions.
TORTANG TALONG - eggplant omelette. Sometimes ground pork is added.
LUMPIANG UBOD - a fresh lumpia (not fried) with palm hearts inside and served with a thick sweet sauce and sprinkled with chopped peanuts.
The PANSITS (noodles) of which there are many kinds like:
PANSIT BIHON - said to be a favorite of Barrack Obama when he was in the White House, cooked by a Fil. chef there.
      PANSIT CANTON - Fil-Chinese fusion.
PANSIT PALABOK - rice noodles with rich shrimp gravy, shrimps, hard boiled eggs, scallions and other toppings.
      Desserts / Snacks:
HALO-HALO - our unofficial national dessert.
LECHE FLAN - creamy custard with caramel syrup.
BANANA-Q - fried Plaintain bananas with caramelized brown sugar.
TURON - Plaintain bananas with brown sugar and jackfruit wrapped in Lumpia wrapper and fried.
GINATAANG BILO-BILO - bananas, yams, glutinous rice balls, etc. in a sweet and thick
      coconut milk soup.
CHAMPORADO - glutinous rice with cocoa. You pour some milk before eating. Typically eaten for breakfast.
ENSAYMADA - sweet soft pastry bun topped with margarine, sugar and grated cheese.
BRAZO DE MERCEDES - a roll made of soft meringue and egg yolk custard filling.
PAN DE COCO - pastry bun with sweetened coconut shreds filling.
The KAKANINS (native snacks from the olden days, maybe pre-Spanish times) of which there are many like SUMAN (has many kinds), BIBINGKA, CASSAVA CAKE, PALITAW, KUTSINTA, etc.
      Thanks and Bon Appetit! 😋

most local viands in the Ph have strong tastes because they were conceptualized to be eaten w/ rice w/c harmoniously tempers the distinct flavor of the side dish. also , vinegar and soy sauce are there to enhance the taste of the food. more so if you sprinke the dish w/ kalamansi ( aka calamondin in english) or those little round green lime/lemon found mostly on the table by the dipping dish. if you want to spicen things up, just add and crush several chillies to your dip.

I think communicating with the locals in the local language will be much more difficult because of these dialects! haha... I'm going to focus on learning some standard Tagalog

Hey Johnathon not sure if you've tried Scuba Diving but i highly recommend you try and learn in the Philippines. Im a certified NAUI Divemaster andI have scuba dived in Puerto Galera, Boracay, and Bohol. All amazing. Only thing i would say is take your time in the training. Try to find a 5 star certified centre and go your own pace. You can do some amazing videos for your channel once you complete the course and the training alone will be great. Happy new year and have the best time in the Philippines.

Lumpia is a name we call many other wrapped food. Lumpiang Sariwa is fresh lumpia, not fried and mostly made of veggies or heart of coconut palm. What you have there is Lumpiang Shanghai which is made from pork. In cebu there's Ngohiong its fried and made from heart of coconut palm, etc.

You probably been to a few islands in the Philippines -- you have 7,600 to go - every island here is breathtaking. The most beautiful island in the Philippines maybe in the planet is called 'BATANES" - visit this island before you go home otherwise your vacation is not complete. Batanes has a touch of IRELAND AND SCOTLAND IN TROPIC SETTING.
    You tube it.
