Before people complain about China's coast guard enforcement operations, why was the Philippine armed force/Navy involved and violating China's sovereignty? Why were they carrying firearms? Philippine could have used the firearms first? Philippine might be transporting the weapons to the illegally shipwrecked warship for future use?
Previously, Philippine Navy and Coast Guard were the ones that uses deadly force on others. It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. Also, Philippine also stole Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Pag-Asa during a storm. In addition, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy.
Would people prefer to have China Coast Guard also use firearms (instead of knives) to carry out law enforcement operations, especially against Philippine Navy? China has been too kind and didn't want to cause any fatality, as firearms or other deadly/invasive operations would.

China is among the first countries who signed the UNCLOS in 1982 and ratified it in 1994. But China niw refuses to follow the rule based order of UNCLOS and rejects the arbitral court's' ruling to pursue a belligerent expansion, absolute control of the WPS and global trade, navigation and overflights in the south china sea, and subdue what it considers its renegade province.
China had the experience with India on border issues. After the 1962 fight, there was a truce of 40 years at the border. Same thing here. If the Filipinos were clobbered, they would wake up and learn something. There will be peace at South China Sea as the Filipinos will learn that China is a super power and is not afraid of the US.
