Praise the Unreal Gods, praise the Quixel Gods, Praise the Rokoko Gods! I was using Rokoko AI mocap and cleaning up in Cascadeur, but now I think Cascadeur just implemented an AI video mocap system right in their own software. Such an exciting time to be developing in Unreal and to be doing mocap and animation as a single dev or small team!

This is amazing! It is so satisfying to see productions at this level of quality made inside Unreal. It is inspirational and makes me want to learn the software even more.

Hey! Any tips for beginners that have an idea for animations but don’t have mocap? Should I learn how to keyframe animation. Also any tips on realms fog for landscapes. Also do you recommend any camera settings for unreal engine 5 that would fall into “cinematic”. The reason I ask is because when I render my stuff everything seems so flat (Even the camera, even when I move it for another angle). And good tips for stuff to do for in post if you do Still Renders?
I’d check out my Animation tutorial. If you’re a beginner I wouldn’t recommend diving into keyframe animation for human characters or you might get lost. As far as making shots more “cinematic” I would constantly compare your compositions, framing, focal length and movement of the camera to IRL shots that you like. For cameras to match their real-life counter part every one of those has to be correct. But usually, it’s the lighting that make your shots look better overall. Hope that helps!
Hi Josh, beginner here. Thanks for the video! Does Unreal Engine export video/animations faster than blender too? I understand the rendering power is incredible.
Thanks! And what about the clouds you dragged and dropped into the scene and could move independently? Are those cloud assets also a part of ultra dynamic sky?
@JohnToonen I'm looking to enroll in your course for the deal you have going on right now but I see that the current price is set at $497. Is there not a discount for the promo on that? There should be about an hour and a half or so before the deal is supposed to end.
Hey Ron! Our sale ended on Cyber Monday and our sale is over. Ping us at learn@unrealforvfx.com and we'll answer any other questions/concerns you've got. Cheers!
Great bts breakdown! Loved every minute of this video. I’d like to sign up for your course. Are there any prerequisites you would recommend knowing before diving into the course?
It’s aimed at beginners, but you should you’re best off if you know Photoshop/AE and have a decent Gaming PC. For a GPU, GTX1080Ti or better (6-8gb VRAM Minimum)
Josh I just discovered your channel and it’s Electric! I’m a filmmaker and I’m getting ready to shoot my first feature and it’s a horror film. I also just got an Acer Predator Helios 300. I’m a total beginner at Unreal Engine And I want to create a color Sin City type universe for my film. Where can I find all your courses to help me achieve my filmmaking goal.
Could you mention how long it take to do your whole thing. Our team are creating ghost story from unreal it about 180 shot with a team around 7 people no pre production no story board no actor with 1 rokoko suit so it mean everytime we record rokoko we all need to pause the work. However we need to explain it to our business manage and investor Who understand nothing about animation. And we really need a clear example like your production it could help us big time. Thank a lot !
Josh, I’m on the verge of clicking that button but, quick question , what if I don’t want it to look so realistic or video gamey. Do you explain how to get more of a Pixar look or Spider versy or cartoon look.
Hey! No problem, you’ll end up using the same exact techniques but you can get stylized characters and environments off the Unreal Marketplace for free/cheap once you understand the workflow 👌🏻
Hey Josh, the course intro vid looks terrific and going deep into the production pipeline and techniques seem really promising. I peeked at the Syllabus, The first 3 chapters seem to cover installing UE, UI review and oddly... Creating a game? you didn't mention gameplay in the trailer. How does this track with Filmmaking? Also, how deep does the course go into Character setup, control rig, Mocap and data cleanup...etc.? This is prominently featured in the tease trailer, and by far, (for me), the most tempting aspect of an expensive course like this. Any light you can shed on this would be mighty appreciated. Best of luck with the course and I hope it turns out to be a good fit for my needs.
Hey! Yes, the course is aimed at people migrating over to Unreal for the first time. Fundamentally, we’re using a video game engine to create 3D renders so if you skip over how the game engine is supposed to work then you’ll never be able to troubleshoot properly. (Also, Making a Game is the shortest chapter) The rest is focused on the character, sequencer, and rendering workflows along with building environments. We cover everything you’d need to know with the exceptions of creating Control Rigs, but everything else is explained. Hope that helps!
AYE IM INTERESTED IN GETTING THIS?? .. it mentions on the website that you also teach how to set up a render farm in home???? if you -- bro I'll buy it right now
Not yet! But you’ll learn how Unreal Engine works together as a whole for filmmaking. We show the full render compositing workflow in AE and Nuke tho and how to improve your renders in comp 👌🏻
Josh, how and where do you publish your films to monetize them ? I mean, you gotta pay actors and people who are helping you so that’s my doubt, thanks a lot… amazing content by the way !
