    Fantastic work. This is not your first plane I presume!? I am gonna cover my third delta plane. You use overlapping all the time. I think that's important. And always start under and connect with the upper sides. Would you be so kind to write a kind of explaination off essential things?

    do you ever cover the plane's stabilizers before you glue them onto the fuselage? It seems it would be easier to cover them first and then glue them on. you really make it look so easy. thanks

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gene, thanks for the comment, its appreciated. I always cover the fin and tailplane after attaching to the fuselage, mainly because I am doing plan builds where there is no, or little detail regarding the location of the linkages, so I would rather attach, sort out the linkage and then cover. I am sure there are many people who would cover first, guess its just a matter of preference. Hope that helps

    Great job but having just completed the covering of an SFM Piper Cub and now understand some of the difficult stages (and made mistakes) it would have been really helpful to new builders to stop and go through step by step the more difficult stages such as dealing with curves on the stabilisers and joints at edges.

    Excellent job, well done! What sort of covering film have you been using? Have you ever been used covering film which was sold out in Aliexpress? Actually I bought covering film from Aliexpress but had some issues.The reason I'm asking is to have an idea about quality of those covering films.For instance, although I have performed all necessary steps that covering film had not shrinked well and sometimes went away where I glued it with covering iron.I don't know whether I'm doing something wrong or not.However I enjoyed while watching your video.I'm Looking forward your other videos later on.Greetings.

      Hi, thanks for the comment, really appreciated, pleased you enjoyed it. The covering film I always use if from The World Models. If you look in the video description I have added a few links that will give you a bit of info and reviews. I thought it was already there, but your comment made me realise I had omitted it, so thank you for that. Good luck with your covering

    Is the dancing wing J-3 Cub 1.2M bigger, the same size, or smaller? I’m trying to add my fox 40 glow engine to one and I’m not sure if it’ll be the right sized aircraft

    I have begun to watch dozens of craft process videos which appear to "educational" and quickly become an un-narrated time-lapse of minimal technical value. I've done my share of covering and finishing models for over 60 years but am always looking to improve skills and identify good learning resources for my novice friends. Therefore please take the following as constructive criticism.
    May I suggest you explain the finer details of the film covering process as you go along. These may include working temperatures of the iron, how to cut the film pieces to a workable size, how to best tack them in place, details of heating and stretching, how to round corners and go over edges and any other basic details of the process while you perform them. Also include materials, tools and equipment used.

    Is it not easier to cover the tail sections before you glue them to the fuselage?

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are working on a kit and all the control linkage locations etc are pre-determined, then yes, that would be an easier option. However, on scratch and plan builds I find it better to cover after I have attached the tail section, because I still neet to determine where the control linkages go, both the attachment to the control surfaces and the holes in the fuselage. Just my preference for that way of working I guess, but I know others do cover first. Funny you should ask that question, as I was thinking about that only in the last couple of days.

    • @keatonhowes9565
      @keatonhowes9565 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I guess that makes sense, but you could dry fit them to get the linkages and things? Are you starting to cover the Ugly Stick?

  • @genes6703
    @genes6703 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you cover, do you get the white lines show up from the covering film. I think its the adhesive from the covering. How do you avoid that or get them to disappear? thanks

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, what covering film are you using? I don't get the lines like you have described, so perhaps its related to the type of film you use.

    • @genes6703
      @genes6703 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkRobinson555 I only started covering very recently. I tried Monokote. The lines only show up at the seems. Your videos go very fast during your covering phase of your build. Anyway you can slow it down a tad. Your videos are the only ones that really demonstrate what do do but they are sped up. I really dont understand how to cover around corners and rounded edges and such. Anyway, thanks for your help.

    • @MarkRobinson555
      @MarkRobinson555  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gene, it is difficult to show to much of the covering due to the time constraints, to cover the wings can take a long day. But, if you look in my playlists on TH-cam there is a Das Ugly Stick build where I do spend more time on the covering which may help, I hope. I would say that I am no expert in covering and still learn a great deal with every plane I build. The best I can give is stick with it, try different things and see what works out best for you.

    • @MarkRobinson555
