Hey, I really enjoy modding Age of Empires 2 and I would like to share with you how the "true damage" is working behind the scene. You probably know that most unit have hidden attack bonuses vs. certain unit. That bonus works this way: Each unit have a type of armor dedicated to its type, normally with a value of 0. For example Knights have 0 cavalry armor. So when a unit deals damage to another, it deals each of its damage type to the corresponding armor type. So melee damage -> melee armor and cavalry damage -> cavalry armor. If you do not have a specific type of armor, you do not take damage from that type of damage (Pikemen do not have cavalry armor, so they do not take cavalry damage) So what about the Leitis? They do not deal any melee damage. They have 0 melee damage. Instead they have an unnamed type of damage and every units (not buildings) in the game have that same unnamed type of armor set to 0. So, in a sens, you could say that the Leitis deals 0 damage but have bonus damage vs. everything.
@@ArawnOfAnnwn Good question, I made a little mistake: Buildings do have the Leitis damage type armor! But instead of having a value of 0 like all units, they have the same value as their melee armor. Good catch!

The selling points would be high attack speed, and in contrast to all other melee units, the duelist would deal pierce damage instead of regular melee damage - which is in line with the rapier style of use. Usually many units are stronger in melee armor because melee attacks typically deal more damage than pierce, so this melee unit with pierce damage could catch people by surprise and be a fun mix into a more conventional army composition. Potentially, the unit could also have a "block" ability where the duelist might negate a percentage of the incoming attack damage.

One mistake in this video is that relic damage bonus should be taken into consideration more when choosing which to go for. As you said, leitis is the more offensive and paladin the more tanky version. Getting a flat damage increase, actually benefits the paladin more. From personal experience leitis is overall better at 0 or 1 relics, roughly equal at 2 and paladins outshining at 3 or 4.
