    Are kilo bars of silver any good? I think they are amazing and everybody should own a 1 kilo bar of silver. They are very good sizes for storage of your silver and portability of your wealth. They are however beholden to the value of spot price. But, you can enjoy them and hold your silver and hold your wealth in your hands and appreciate how amazing and dense silver really is!

      You can also melt the bars into 1 oz silver coins, as you get older, and feel the need to use them. I would also highly recommend buying Gold for long term savings (for example to finance your house or something similar) and silver also for long term, but also emergencies. For example, in the case of the dollar loosing its value completely, to buy food and other nessecary goods with it directly from farmers.

      Silver is extremely liquid. Even the 1000 ounce bars are trivially easy to sell, and the spreads are less, the larger the size. The disadvantage of larger sizes is simply that they are physically large and heavy. You can fit 1000,1 ounce bars in a short safe deposit box that will not fit a 1000 ounce bar, because it's too tall. On the other hand, it's much easier to pick up 1 object than 1000 objects. Also, 1000 troy ounces is ~68 pounds. A lot of people just can't lift that, sadly.

    Glad to find this video even a year after the fact. I'm debating between a Kilo (beautiful and nice weight) and even numbered bars because when it comes to reselling, I do wonder if 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 ounces are just easier to sell down the road. Good informative video. 👍🏼

    • @jayduffy7615
      @jayduffy7615 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Mary J, I have wondered the same thing in the past. What I have decided to do is to diversify by buying silver in different weights and shapes. I have a solid kilo bar but I also have kilos of silver in "silver slivers" (shavings) and in "silver shot" (BBs). If I am ever in a position to sell my silver, then the silver slivers or shot will be much more divisible so as to more accurately pay for something or to find a buyer for. Not everyone will be able to afford the Kilo bar.

    • @Mary-J
      @Mary-J 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jayduffy7615 Great advice! What I've done is exactly what you said, diversify. In the long run, smaller amounts are easier to sell for those of us without immediate connections to dealers/buyers. I love the idea of the Kilo, 100, and 1,000 oz. as both a cool looking bar and a way to get more bang for your buck.

    It's always fascinating to me how the human brain perceives volume based on shape. Even at the 5oz bar size there's tons of variety, some of which people would probably swear are under or over 5oz at first glance.
    Those bars also might have less than a gram of impurities. From what I understand, a lot of .999 silver may actually be higher purity than marked to a degree, its just most mints can't guarantee they will be so they settle for a blanket .999 label that can be met 100% of the time. Would be an interesting experiment to see the exact differences with a Sigma machine!

    • @BackyardBullion

That feeling you get when you hold one is hard to describe. The coins, yeah they're probably more useful for day to day stuff if we ever get to that point but i'm not as big a fan of them. Yes, you are right to buy 1 kg silver bar to keep, as you usually pay a much lower premium above the spot price rather than buying 1 oz of silver coin. Remember you may have to add 7% of value added tax or GST (goods servive tax) in certain countries on top of the above the total price. Advisable to buy when price of the silver dips.

    I like the idea of bars, they feel like wealth. My perspective is this. Why do you want it? Is it as an investment? Probably not, but if so, then the most popular is what you want - 1 to 10 ounce rounds and bars. Is it as a store of wealth? Maybe, or maybe as an insurance policy. As a store of wealth, larger bars probably make more sense. But if the purpose is for SHTF insurance, then a combination of larger and smaller makes sense. You would want smaller for smaller transactions, and larger for the store of wealth aspect.

    I just bought a 1kg bar... Thinking (besides cheapest silver at only $2.30 over spot) that would be a convenient size to store and handle and consolidate ounces. Only down side may be in selling.. Dealers and finicky buyers get bumfuzzeled by converting to 32.15 troy ounces and then multiplying by spot to figure out buying or selling price. 10oz bars are nice but today are more expensive per ounce.

    I buy 5oz, 10oz, and kilos, and its good to have silver rounds too. After you buy enough of the little stuff in case of you have barter later, then you can concentrate on the bigger bars for long term savings. This all depends on you financial needs. Watch your gold to silver ratio in case you have too much silver, convert to gold for better storage and easier to travel with.

    A SIMPLE test for purity of a silver kilo bar is by the water displacement method. Silver has a density of 10.49 grams per cubic centimeter. As such, your 999 fine silver kilo should have a volume of just over 95.3288 ml.

    Tax on silver. No tax on gold. I like the aesthetic of gold and silver. I want it as an investment too. I'm not a money head but would like a return when it comes time to sell it. So that means I want a balance of an attractive piece of metal with low premiums that will hold its value. Just getting started but videos like these help paint the picture. Cheers.

    I own three 100 oz and six 1 kg bars. I wouldn't recommend them to the average stacker due to the liquidity concerns. I am now only buying sovereign coins exclusively. If you keep your powder dry and wait for a good dip, you could get premium coins (Maples/Eagles) at VERY little more than generic rounds or bars online, but you'll get the upside of higher premiums when selling. Plus you don't have to worry about non-precious metals/alloys inserts in big bars.

    The problem with all of this in the U.K. is 20% VAT. I’ve got Kgs of Silver but nothing bigger than a 250g Unicode. Just 100s of coins. I’d love to buy more but for the uK stacker, gold looks better value regardless of the current ratio. Paying over spot and then 20% on top makes you at least 23 to 25% “down” on these bars.
