    I’d say anyone who would accept silver as “payment” in a barter situation would already recognize what Pre ‘65 constitutional silver is... I personally would trust the Pre ‘65 silver for authenticity over the modern silver proof coins.

      This isn't something I would lose any sleep over. I still think its a no-brainer to go with the silver proof quarters over the standard junk silver quarters, as long as you can get them at about 5-6% or less over melt. They have much more going for them.

  • @arnoldvilleneuve8397

    Speaking directly with Tim was very helpful. He was very kind within his time. He explained to me that these quarters had to be removed from a pure silver set of the major coins of any given year and just the quarters placed in a tube. This was a rare find Yankee. Well done!

    My argument against the quarter proofs is that in a barter situation you'd have to educate them past the 25 cent perception. The advantage of fractional round silver in barter situations is that the perception barrier is removed and you're just bartering with an uneducated trade partner in terms of pure silver and not a recognizable legal tender that they will apply past experience to. I had to explain to my wife how an American Eagle silver dollar was valued more than the face value and it took some doing. Her response was something like, "well if it's worth so much, why did they make it only a dollar?" I almost pulled the last of my hair out. Obviously that argument goes away if we encounter sustained SHTF periods where people come around to understanding what you and I already do but early on, I'm not so sure we want prolonged debates about quarter values.

    • @YankeeStacking
      @YankeeStacking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I’ve run these tests in the past too, James. Even did a video on trying to buy coffee with an American silver eagle!We’re not there right now in our society, but when our very lives depend on it I believe the education that you speak of will happen quite rapidly! Thanks for the great comment.

    • @jeffreysmith8977
      @jeffreysmith8977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plus it's much more difficult to counterfeit slightly worn silver quarters as opposed to silver bars, as in a SHTF situation, you also have to consider that most people you'd be bartering with (farmers, hunters, beer makers) won't have one of those metal identifiers to screen for silver clad counterfeits.

    • @elitefitness341
      @elitefitness341 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YankeeStacking You're an optimist Yankee, and I love that about you. Personally, I agree with James. I think people are so disconnected with what money really is, and what history really is, that they'll be the frog in the pot of boiling water and never understand what happened. In my opinion, you're gonna have way more education to do in a SHTF situation trying to use 2007 quarters and convince people of the silver content. Pre-65 stuff is well known.....these aren't, and then throw in the .9999 2020 coins and it adds a new layer of complexity. Personally, I'll take a ragged pre-65 coin any day.

  • @shawnspreciousbullyon
    @shawnspreciousbullyon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Constitutional silver is the best way in my mind to stack fractional silver. Great for bartering and other low cost purchases for SHTF scenarios. I always buy the frosty pre 64 cause it has all the silver there and none of the metal weight has been rubbed or worn off. My goal is to have at least a minimum of a $1,000 face value. I'm about 16% of the way there. So a few more years and goal complete. Thanks for the video Yankee. It warms my heart to watch your videos and I appreciate the hard work it takes to make these videos. Hours of time spent that we appreciate you for doing.

    what I like about the pre 1965 quarters is they have that authentic look as it is hard to imagine that someone could counterfeit the pre 65 coins and then add the years worth of wear. When I see those new proofs and other newer silver coins (like american eagles) I get worried that I am going to be scammed on my purchase and am concerned that I may have trouble convincing others of their authenticity. I am working on getting a rare earth magnet and trying to educate myself on the other ways to have confidence that I am not buying fakes. At any rate thanks for the video! Good Info

    Just so yall know if you didn't, from 2019 onward, the silver proof coins in mint sets are made with .999 instead of 90%. The half dollars, dimes, and quarters. 5 of these .999 quarters ads up to exactly 1.02 troy oz of silver, and it just so happens 5 come in each years' set! You can actually get a 2019/2020 silver quarter set on ebay rn for less than most places are still selling a single ASE for! A lot of people are buying them open to flip the 2020 bat quarter (going for $10 by themselves on ebay) and stacking the rest in tubes as 1/5th fractionals. This has kind of flown under the stacking radar imo and hopefully more people realize the potential of this going forwards. 5 quarters to make a solid troy oz will add some nice simplicity to bartering that normal constitutional silver has been lacking. Still high premium, but honestly worth getting at least a few if you can imo.

    Up until recently, I was buying the 5 coin silver state quarter proof sets on Ebay for a little over melt including shipping using Buy It Now or Best Offer. You have to be persistent and keep checking the new listings daily to find the better deals. I accumulated lots of these sets at what I consider to be a steal of a price over the years. I figure that seeing as how these proofs still retain all of their metal content, they should sell at a slight premium over regular junk silver quarters which always have some wear on them.

    @11:45 - At first listening his coin dealer paid $195 which was only $1 above the then current melt value. However, Tim must have had the coins for some time to have know they were hard to sell, so it’s likely the spot silver price, and therefore the melt value, was somewhat lower at his time of acquisition. Nevertheless, a highly attractive coin at a highly attractive price/premium. Great video! 🧨
