I'm a sheet metal worker aswell, I thinks it's cool to watch and see the different methods people use. We prefer to make hangers in 2 pieces to make leveling the pipe easier and I was taught how to make that hanger with math so you don't have to use a piece of pipe or draw lines on the floor. 3.14 x pipe diameter then just add flanges and drop measurement to get total cut length of hanger strap. Keep the videos coming I enjoy them. 👍
Thanks much appreciated. I use the two piece method almost all the time as well to make it easy to level pipes. Usually pipe is available to make what we call “lollipops”. Thanks for watching the vids. Work is so busy I haven’t had time to make any videos lately which is a good thing for me but hopefully when my garage is done I’ll be posting much more.
I like to use what we call "Tear Drop" hangers. its a wrap around type with 1inch or wider 16ga band iron but with a kick at the top of both sides and it sits about 4 inches above the top of the spiral pipe. Looks very neat and allows for movement of the spiral pipe. Enjoy the vids bud. Cheers from Canada.
@@ibon701 If its exposed thats one thing but if insulated above the ceiling who cares. I would never use 16 ga. though, too heavy and a waste of material. Not to mention its not user friendly.
Yes you are correct or another option is the way I did it in the video and you don’t need to do the math on any size duct and don’t need to mark anything at all. So many ways to accomplish one job. Thanks for watching the video!
@@yodaddysuncle9037 right on I appreciate you checking the video out feel free to subscribe I’ll have tons more videos up in the near future (building a studio in my garage to film)
We don’t make these while in a ladder or lift. When installing the duct work we like to measure the edge of the duct to the tail piece of the hanger that already set on a deck and then we put the hanger on the duct before we lift the duct up so it’s already set in place. These are two piece hangers we almost never do one piece hangers
@@SheetmetalHVAC__ damn, the companies I've worked for here in WA, we only do them in the air, and they're all one piece. As a 2nd year apprentice, I'm still learning and trying to find my groove as I'm slowly being asked to hang duct. Do you think you can make one doing an offset and how far away you need to be before beginning the offset? I appreciate the reply.
@@chrisbrown3357 I’ve been working in the trade for almost 7 years now and one thing I’ve learned is everyone does things their own way. The local in my area they don’t even know how to set hangers. There’s a guy dedicated to just setting hangers. The whole job stops if they arnt on site and the mechanics catch up. Pretty sad. And if the mechanic starts setting hangers they get yelled at because they are taking someone else’s job so they stand around until they go home.
Just get a combi do your layout with the math bang bang. This is slow and awkward. I get not everyone has a combi But the math and Hand seamers would also be correct compared to this, This is home owner hangers.
You guys have no respect for the trade that comes behind..think about the insulater that has to wrap around that garbage.. I hope yall are not commercial.
I don’t know man it’s been working for me and many others for a long time. Instead of bashing on the way I do things why not explain how you do it so people can be educated on other ways to do things? If I just explained diameter times pi that doesn’t explain the other things needed. I’m just explaining my way that I make multiple hangers quickly and efficiently no one needs to follow me.

thx a lot for the method you shows. I will use the method on my first commercial sperial job just took last week. Hopfully goes well.

Tear dropping looks like trash in my opinion 🤷🏽♂️ maybe if it’s temporary to make adjustments but never as finished product

Good explanation and cool video
Thank you!
I usually just multiply the diameter times 3.14. Im lazy tho ill use gripple cable hangers and go!
I’ve always set all my hangers and then put pipe. Hit all my hanger in and set height and put up pipe
Plz make a video on how to cut supply registers onto spiral duct
I’ll put that on my list!
Need more vedios about spiral ductwork please.
Whats the correct name of the metal straps for hamging ?
To make a 10 inch round hanger its 3.14 ×10 = 31.4 just move the decimal point . Its that easy,no marking on the floor,no marking onthe hanger strap !

What brand of pants do you wear
These pants are FXD pants and I have a carhartt knee pad insert. I can’t remember exactly what model for the pants
Thank you
From one bend to another you have what 20 inches?
I don’t know the top of my head but I do know that the circumference of a circle is (c=2 x pi x R)which would be 31.4 inches for a 10” round

Explain to me how you would set hangers on spiral duct. I appreciate the comment though helps boost my stuff 👍🏼👍🏼

This is how to NOT make spiral hangers... Diameter times pi. Done. You're wasting a ton of time.
