    How do you install an autocall A4098-9755 By Autocall More specifically I am wondering how to install this in existing Duct work Supply and returns? Specifically, I am wondering if you extend their airflow tubes through the opposite sides? As you did with the model in your video. Also, I noticed that you only extended one airflow tube through the width of the duct work, the one with the holes but not the other...Why?

    • @SheetmetalHVAC__
      @SheetmetalHVAC__ ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi sorry for the late response hopefully you were able to get an answer for this if this was urgent. To answer your questions, first off I have not installed that particular brand but they are all pretty similar. I always recommend installing any equipment per manufacturer’s instructions. There are two tubes. A test tube and an exhaust tube. The test tube should always be before the exhaust tube and holes should be facing against the airflow so air can go in the tube with the holes. The small pipe that comes with the equipment is the exhaust tube so the air that goes in the device can be exhausted out. Some brands say the tube should go through and some say you can stop two inches before the duct. It depends on the length of the test tube, if it’s too long it can break from the housing. So the smaller one doesn’t need to be extended because it’s just an exhaust tube. The point of this device is to get a test sample of the air to go inside the sealed enclosure which has a smoke sensor and then the air gets exhausted out by another tube being the smaller one. There’s no pumps involved so it’s important to install the tubes correctly.

    Thanks for the interesting videos. What do you call those cleats - S cleats or something else? And on residential we use drive and S cleats. Here you use only modified S cleats. What is the purpose of drive cleats? Do you know? I always wondered, why in residential not used S cleats on all 4 sides. Thanks.

    • @SheetmetalHVAC__
      @SheetmetalHVAC__ ปีที่แล้ว

      I have always called them slips or a slips and if it’s not a four sided slip connection I call it a slip and drive connection. But the way I was taught is that the connections of duct really depend on preference but its very common in residential because that’s what most supply houses sell from what I’ve noticed. The purpose of the drives which are usually on the left and right of the connections is to basically lock the two pieces together. I’ve demoed a lot of duct where people don’t even use screws just use the drives. A slip and drive connection is going to leak a lot more air which requires a bit more duct seal. I think slip and drive connections are quicker than all slip which is nice. On this specific project the engineers did not allow slip and drive connections they required all slip or TDC or TDF connections.

    If you made a 1 piece hanger with holes punched for 1/4-20 bolts and nut You can then wrap your one piece stick a bolt thru the holes start the nut run it in until the duct is level. Go back and screw the duct on to the Sq to Rd or tap or reducer or what have you. Also a friction pulley works good if you have 10' lengths and you are by yourself. Provided you have a spot to hang a pulley. Not many jobs I have been on you don't have a spot to hang a rope friction pulley. We normally run all our hangers 1st with a laser make all one piece hangers set to height and roll.
