    Nyssa I l have walls and flyscreens and I still get flies in my kitchen. It's part of where we live, it's so hot and dry at the moment and summer is here. We just got to roll with the punches.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it does mean that by pulling some of the less fatty meat out I'm bumping the fat content of the meat a little but I don't mind that, in the way we eat it a bit of higher fat ratio isn't a bad thing!

    You could do a mince cobbler. Make plain scones and place in a ring over the top of your cooked mince mixture. Any left over scones can be baked separately to have with jam

    People and their "opinions" about flys OBVIOUSLY have NEVER cooked outdoors....history people.. humans have been cooking outdoors since cavemen discovered they could make fire.. people leaving your negative comments open your small minds... feel your feeling then get over them and move along life is short...I LOVE your videos and I love cooking outdoors.. prefer it even.... I swat Flys I'm still alive..lol..

    Silverside [the silver skin joint] is a lovely slow roast joint, cook long and low it makes a nice pulled beef.

    • @OurSmallFootprint

    Hi Nyssa, just watched your latest video which was great. I live in Townsville and quite regularly whole rumps at IGA are $8.99/kg. It might sound a bit extravagant but I mince rumps with the fat, the mince is beautiful. Also quite often we will slice some and keep some as roasts. The roasts turn out beautiful, but you have to cook them on a slow temperature. I have cooked them on the BBQ in a covered enamel baking dish. Slow though or it will be very dry. I get IGA specials emailed to me so I don't miss out.
    Also been meaning to
    mention if you have tried Euca washing powder. I switched about 7 years ago. Doesn't have the nasties, washes really well and the 10kg tub is very economical. You can buy it at Mitre 10.

    Hey Nyssa🥰 Yum the sausage rolls with the caramelised onion jam in the filling sounds soooo good!!!!
    Loved Daryl’s appearance 😂🤣😂
    Great idea using the muffin tray for the pie cases, I’m going to give that a go for little apple & rhubarb pies. Have a great week🥰

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They were super tasty!
      It worked really well, I still think I'd prefer some larger individual pie tins, more filling to less pastry! lol, but the muffin trays work in a pinch!

    Your pie filling looked luscious and yummy and your buns are professional looking. I useTexas muffin pans for large muffins however now I'll try to use them for pies. The only downside is they come in a six muffin size. You do the beef justice in how you stretch it and cook such varied meals. Your costings are amazing. Its so worth it.

    • @OurSmallFootprint

      I think our puff pastry is much different to yours though, when I see the kind of pastry on American channels the way they use it, it is much thicker and puffier, our is very thin, which works perfectly for this kind of thing!

    The steak pie looks wonderful! I hate sometimes that I don't like a lot of certain foods because, like your pie, the minute I would see, smell or taste cooked carrots or especially, mushrooms I would be done. Same thing for bacon....love it on its own but I cannot stand it in anything.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s one of the biggest benefits of cooking your own food though! You can avoid things you don’t like. Though I used to hate mushrooms and now I don’t have a problem with them because D likes them so I started including them and just got used to it lol

    I'm getting ok with the flies now, my issue before was we lived across the road from our local tip, so I was like a maniac if they landed on anything, they even got in the fridge once and blew my whole freshly prepared stir fry and I roasted a chook for dinner, turned around to get the glad wrap out of the nearby draw and turned back to see maggots crawling out of my freshly cooked chicken yuck

    Please, for safety's sake, put a damp dish cloth or paper towel under your cutting board so it doesn't move around when you cut. Cutting on a slippery board is dangerous and makes your job take longer and you have to work harder. I get rubber shelf liner from the dollar store and cut that down to size.
