Now every part can experience the agony that cellists go through every time they have to play Canon in D.
My brass quintet did this.MyTuba Player hated it. 8 notes over and over!

When I hear this in D major, I picture a young couple in a budding romance that will last a lifetime and beyond. When I hear it in d minor, I see cold, darkness, desolation and fear, as if a lone man were walking through a blizzard away from the life he once knew.
Both keys represent the changing face of the song. On one face, a bright and happy beauty, the other a dark and depressed beauty.
I think the chosen instruments are part of that feeling.
D minor is the saddest of all keys... People just break down weeping when they hear it, I don't know why.
I don't hear what everyone's saying. I just hear the song in a minor key. It's still very consonant.

It's in the parallel (or relative) minor key to D major. It's the fifth note of the scale, a B. This is the key of B minor. It's beautiful and melodic, and even settles my mind. Now I say goodbye as I go back to listening to it.

Josy 714 Canon was originally in D Minor since it's supposed to reflect the regret that Pachelbel didn't proclaim his genuine love for a girl who loved him and pushed her to commit suicide. The reversal into D major is more than just a change in mood. It reflects what could have happened if their love was reciprocated to each other. Which is why the Major Key is played in weddings.

Back in the day I made a cassette tape of the Canon in D minor from a vinyl disk that had a dozen different versions. It was great for driving, especially in traffic. You forgot everything around you and floated off in a world of your own.
If the major key version is for weddings, this one's for funerals...

Very beautiful piece of music in my opinion. I like minor keys a lot. I think that it just makes the music sound more serious.
I kinda want this played at my wedding as i walk down the isle, if i actually live to find someone who loves me and wants to get married lol. there’s such a dark beauty to it; i feel like it would reflect my feelings on that day. the fact that i never thought i’d ever find love, or even live to see my wedding day.

I can see why Pachelbel went with major. Once the bell line starts it gets really good though. Bet that's one thing Pachelbel never thought of.
Guess what, he did. More like that was the original. But then guess what, lots of people committed suicide both audience and performers. Then they banned it. Pachelbel, who wrote it for his lost lover, changed it to a major. 80% chance this is true.

Very lovely sound thank you for this arrangement. You've inspired me to arrange it for solo piano though in C minor for a slightly more bitter sweet sound. I'll post it in a couple a weeks when I'm done=)
@ViciousTeddyBear09 BTW in Track Editor, I find it simpler to use Graphic View (notes shown as rectangles on keyboard layout) than Notation View (standard staff notation).

If you get curious about the "Pachelbel progression" in minor (i-V-vi-III-iv-i-iv-V), Father Romanus Weichlein wrote a Passacaille ("Passagaglia") on it and it effectively sounds very like this, just in 3/4 instead of 4/4. It's on TH-cam, and it's worthy at least one listening.

If the piece is a midi file:
Open new GB project
Open a Finder window and get to the midi file
Drag the midi into the main GB pane
Open Track Editor (scissors symbol in lower left)
Otherwise:
Open new GB project
Record a note (so you have a track to work with)
Open Track Editor
Take that 1 note and move it around to change pitch, copy-paste to add notes, lengthen, shorten, etc.

The parallel key to D major is D minor. You might be thinking of its relative key, which is B minor (also known as H minor several places, like in my home country of Norway).

The aeolian minor and natural minor are exactly the same thing. Terminology one uses does not determine the ignorance of a person (usually XD ). Harmonic and Melodic Minor are merely variants of the Natural Minor (or aeolian minor as you put it). By the way, I learned something today thanks to you lol

主要看您是已那种心态来欣赏，就乐曲而言，这是不错的曲目，尤其钢琴版本！

So, while on the face of it, the two concepts might seem interchangeable, in practice they are treated as quite distinct things. Natural minor never appears in major/minor tonalities, but aeolian exclusively appears in modal tonalities. One is a theoretical construct, the other is a real thing.
By the way, if you don't know the difference between 3/4 and 6/8, and you'd like to know, I'd be happy to explain that. It's quite interesting, actually.

+Wong Tsz Shing You don't need software for that, is just music theory, for example try to key change: Jingle bells it is a easy one. ^^
If you want to change a major song to minor then just lower 3rd 6th and 7th degrees of the scale. Sometimes it works better if you leave 7th natural not flatten because it's a specific note in the scale and it helps the harmony to resolve and it still sound dark because it's harmonic minor whcih is in my opinion darker than natural minor but thats subjectove I guess. You need to experiment with this and see for yourself whats better.
+Alfred Estepa Yes maybe, maybe not xD What I meant was that harmonic minor has a natural 7th degree which means it has a major V chord which means that it has a stronger pull to the tonic. I guess it depends on what do you want in that change: Do you want to change scales and the overall feel of the song or do you want to change it but you still want to preserve the character of the harmonies, melodies which includes strong harmoniczne resolution. I'm not that advanced in music thoery but it's how I understand it. Correct me if I'm wrong xD.

Unfortunately, the computer that I did this on crashed a while back, and I don't remember where I found most of the soundfonts I used (though I recall that one or two didn't work on my new computer, or on the updated version of GarageBand, or something). But there's plenty of interesting versions of the Canon elsewhere around TH-cam!
To people who say it's horrible or sounds bad - Minor is supposed to sound messed up lol It's not some walk in the park with pretty flowers on a lovely summer day with birds singing and sun light every where. It's supposed to be dark, mysterious, painful.
