Yemen’s Houthis launch new missile attack in Red Sea following air strikes | BBC News

  • Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who control much of the country, have responded to airstrikes on their country by firing another ballistic missile at shipping in the Red Sea. It failed to hit its target but the Houthis warned that the US and its allies "will pay a heavy price, for their aggression".
The US said it was not interested in a war with Yemen - just hours after America and allies attacked Houthi rebel positions there. Five people were killed and six wounded in the missile strikes - but a White House spokesman said President Biden's actions were about preventing any escalation of conflict.
A coalition of countries were involved in the military operation which they said was intended to destroy Houthi military infrastructure and munitions. Some of the targets were in the Yemeni capital Sana'a.
The joint military strikes were in response to nearly two months of attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi movement on cargo ships in the Red Sea, disrupting commercial shipping and the global economy. The Houthis say they're responding to western backing of Israel and giving support to the Palestinians in Gaza.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jeremy Bowen.

Probably on purpose, they launch an attack to not appear weak to their people, but don't actually hit anything so there's no escalation or retaliation.

But nothing has really been done about them. They are even proposing a "peace" proposal (the same proposal that has been betrayed 1000 times by Palestine). In fact, the leftist media is supporting people who breached international law not the victims.

Or the literal definition of terrorism: "achieving political goals with a use of violence". International terrorism when the targets are international. So houthis crying 'foul!' means nothing as long as they act like terrorists.
Also, they did start the attacks with indiscriminate (not aimed at purely military targets) long range missiles against a sovereign country, so in essence that rebel group declared a de facto war against a sovereign country.
There really is no aspect in this that would make this look good or justifiable for houthis. They will be branded as the baddies and everyone defending them have just destroyed their credibility. Not that there was much left after defending another terrorist group: Hamas...... Am i seeing a trend here? Seems the pro-Hamas people in the west are really into supporting terrorist groups?

Have you ever heard of the so-called "sea mines" ? Do you know that the Yemeni Houthi forces have approximately 4 million mines + the production lines for these mines were activated to their maximum levels recently? Do you know that if only 1 million mines were thrown to the Red Sea, this will lead to complete paralysis of global navigation for at least 3 years until the Red Sea is cleaned of these mines!!!!!!!! what does that mean? means rise in commodities in average 17%, with more and more increases expected every year. specially with the Russia’s position opposing increasing oil production🙂 Europe and the West and the world must prepare well for an unprecedented economic crisis. damn, How naive some in the West are. I read the comments and I find myself not reading even a single objective comment. In political science they say never enter into a conflict with someone who has nothing to lose. Yemen is not a superpower and will not be able to destroy any country, but it simply can be a poison mine to the whole world. so it's better not to get close.

    • @moggpiano8043
      @moggpiano8043 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

So why have only a handful of these "4 million" mines been deployed? Why have they caused noghing more than minor damage only to Yemeni and Saudi shipping? You are spouting ill informed nonsense. Thousands of these largely primitive devices have been destroyed.

Step out of your comfort zone and face reality; the world is changing. The 20-year war in Afghanistan, sparked by the Taliban and Al-Qaeda's involvement in 9/11, achieved little, costing many lives and leaving Afghanistan under Taliban control once again. Do you really want a repeat? In Yemen, people seem resigned to a belief in an afterlife they don't mind at all to start any war" they have nothing to lose"
I think is easier to stop the war in Gaza, much better than to pay all for the Israeli arrogance.
Furthermore, holding Israel accountable for its actions is crucial for justice.

Try to get out of your bubble for once and look at the world around you. The world is changing, and as we say, “the strength of a slap is equal to the amount of heedlessness.”
About mine detectors, this is a technology that warships have, not cargo ships. I was talking about the danger navigation for commercial ships, which will inevitably stop if the Houthis drop a huge number of mines into the sea. Yes, it is possible to get rid of these mines and clean the sea, but that will take several years.
Is better to call for cease-fire now in Gaza before we all pay for that crime instead of Israel.
