That's why the one that was suppose to be somewhat sympathetic, Kars, actually PROTECTED a dog. He wasn't evil, he just had such a fundamentally different concept of morality that he couldn't be treated as anything but a villain.
I remember in bloody roar you could put a permanent beast form option after finishing the game. I would then proceed to sneaky-activate this, pick cronos and suprise my brother with a permanent broken phoenix. Fun times indeed.
There was also a speed up mode that made the game faster & you can turn off blocking. We would set it up so you can only evade an attack or attack. I used to use Chronos phoenix mode mercilessly with the flying air swoop then double sided flame attack… great times.
Pet Shop isn’t a joke character. In the anime and manga, he’s an absolute monster. If anyone in that game is a joke character, it would be Hol Horse and Boingo, a duo so incompetent they defeated themselves before their targets even noticed they were being attacked.
Slightly correct as it Oingo and Boingo that pulled off that feat of the Crusaders not realizing they were in danger. Hol Horse and Boingo almost defeated them, but bad luck got in the way. Alongside the gang noticing Hol Horse.
I played the jojo's bizarre adventure game on the emulator and Hol Horse's A.I. is an entire troll. I died to it 5 times just it wouldn't stop spamming the down gunshots

He isn’t a joke character in game either, the main reason he’s actually banned is because he can get basically free unblockables that can lead into Touch of Death combos, not because he can fly. If anything, flying isn’t a good option due to the fact that he can’t block while above his base flying level

When you were talking about Joke characters, and I saw heritage for the future, literally the last character I would consider a joke is petshop. Like, maybe Maria, because her stand is pretty pathetic, especially in a fight. Or maybe Joseph, since Hermit Purple isn't meant to be used in a fight, so you're essentially slapping someone with wires. But Petshop? The first time we see him, he crushes a guy and his car with an ice boulder, and impales two dogs. He makes Iggy bite off his own leg. That bird is fucked

Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. He's literally just a normal dude who is a lawyer by trade. He's the slowest character in the game and has garbage reach for most of his moves. He also has 1 million HP and if he manages to activate turnabout mode all of his attacks will reach halfway across the screen and he gains access to his level 3 hyper combo which is the single most damaging attack in the entire game, and can't be dodged.
Don't forget all his assist moves become absurdly powerful and, as long as he isn't the active character, the timer on his turnabout mode never runs out. So you can activate turnabout mode and then switch to another character, who will be able to call super powerful assists, and if that character gets KO'd then you still have all your turnabout mode timer left as Phoenix.
But Phoenix Wright is by no means intended to be a joke character. He was actually a fan favorite added after years of fans asking. He's a character balanced around being weak in one state and extremely powerful in another, with signicant investment (usually) required to active his turnabout mode, which fighting games are peppered with.
Yeah but what a curveball picks character that does a ton of damage can't hit small thing perfect for things like friendship ruining sorta like picking odd oddjob in a slaps only match while having your friend pick the tallest character (that's a cut there to remember)
Which is a non-issue for anybody who knows the proper movesets for the character they're playing as. If the guy is a short fighter why would you keep using high kicks and punches?
Well... You could also add Shingo Yabuki. Which WAS a joke character in KOF'97. He almost able to recreate Kyo Kusanagi's moves(though, without flames), but compensates it with ability to deal freakin CRITS. In a fighting game.

When me and my brothers was younger. We didn't know dan was a joke character and as matter of fact we all loved him as a character in alpha 2. We actually created our own fan fiction with him. We thought he was a blind fighter who ken trained to help he get revenge against saget for killing his father. Lol we didn't find out about the joke background until we grew older and gained access to the internet. Still to this day he's a favorite to us all but only from alpha 1&2.

It’s super unfortunate, as a game like this would look phenomenal on current consoles. There is hope though, Killer Instinct had almost a 20 year hiatus before releasing on the XBox One. The hope would be Konami is interested in reviving it or at some point another company want to purchase it. Konami has definitely been sleeping on its IPs with the exception of Metal Gear. There’s a lot of nostalgic games, I would spend mad money on if they released or even re-released.
Mace: The Dark Age also had a killer chicken IIRC. A Sega Saturn game had a car. The original Cho Aniki had an anthropomorphic battleship complete with tiny human crew.

They ruined Dan by improving him. Smack talk with fighting games was like: "You suck so bad, I'm gonna' beat you with Dan" and "You think you're great? Try me again using Dan!" By making him good they ruined the humiliation factor.
That's kinda his biggest strength. When people fight Dan, they laugh at him thinking "Oh, it's just Dan. OK, this fight isn't worth putting in much effort"... and that's when he gets you. In short, his biggest strength is the fact that people think he's shit.

Picking Dan is a very special case because it's a 'no lose' scenario for you. You put the pressure of winning to your opponent alone because nobody wants to be the guy that lost to Dan. And if you lose, well, no pressure because you were just using Dan in a game, treating it like a casual match.
I think you have a somewhat loose definition of the term "joke character". I never thought of Chronos the Phoenix as a joke character. I feel that his penguin form is meant to be a trade-off for having the ridiculously powerful phoenix form. Also, he's the final boss for most of the other fighters in the game.

Nah, while Gon is goofy, I classify him as one of those visiting from different franchise characters like Noctis from FFXV. Gon is the main character of a beloved manga series called, well, Gon and I think there was an anime series too.

Pet Shop IS self aware, though. Animals with Stands have their intelligence increased along with gaining their powers, becoming as smart as humans at the least. Iggy's inner monologue even said that Pet Shop wasn't just a vicious killer, but a sadist on par with DIO himself.

Oddly enough, in the one segment where you were showing Chairperson, she was taking on a character named Ran -- Ran Hibiki. It hasn't been verified if Ran is Dan's little sister, or cousin, or niece, but considering her surname is Hibiki, and both games are made by Capcom, they have to be related.
Also one of the story mode paths is a team up of Ran, Chairperson, and Boman Delgado. Speaking of Ran.... she's a photo journalist. The two Hibiki characters spell Hibiki differently, which suggests they're probably unrelated. Hibiki Ran(ひびき 蘭), vs Hibiki Dan(火引 弾)

I don't know why Andy is surprised Crispy is a terror on the battlefield: chickens are vicious, feral creatures who will literally eat each other for breakfast. Of COURSE Crispy is OP.
The real reason for the Petshop ban, is not because it can fly or too small. It's because its has ability to hold attack button and build up and drop Icicle from top side of the screen, even while blocking. It make attacking Petshop almost impossible, because he can drop those icicle at anytime after it appear on screen. It has no attack animation, don't interrupt his movement, and don't need to use all his attack button (and he still got his stand attack) and Petshop can combo into TOD from those Icicle. So basically, Petshop block attack > Drop Icicle on enemy that stuck in attack animation > TOD > Win.
I was watching his use and if that control box he had in his hand had been a bottle. His style would be considered drunken. Which can be a difficult style to counter.

@@rprealist4869 Actually, Sakura is a guest character in Rival Schools and was created for SF. SF has quite a few teens now, and not the same ones as RS. Canonically it's the same universe so it makes sense for them to cross paths.
Well, we do have MUGEN, and the community surely has no shortage of bird characters. And Colonel Sanders is DEFINITELY a character, and an extremely competent one at that.
You missed Akamaru from Naruto Clash of Ninja 2 on the GameCube. That little pup can completely own every other character to a hilarious degree. Mostly because he is nearly impossible to hit and Super Moves don't work on him. Even if someone like Garaa hits him, he just takes a little damage and the Super Move fails.

But, his story wasn't continued in Bloody Roar 4 since he wasn't playable, meaning the exact nature of his power was never addressed.
Friendly reminder that Pichu was one of the best characters in Smash Ultimate on release. Pichu was intentionally designed in Melee to be terrible, but between adjustments to Pichu and Ultimate playing very differently to Melee, pichu came back so powerful that the devs had to nerf him in a patch
He did that because Smash Ultimate is a shockingly balanced game, so even if a character is underrated, when a good player decides to use them, there's a good chance they can do well. Particularly if the character has specific counterplays that aren't seen much. This is the reason Little Mac has more tournament wins than Marth. Marth is obviously a better character, but since Ultimate is so balanced, you can still pull off a win with Mac at the mid level. Also, no one plays Marth because Lucina exists, but that's beside the point.

my favorite part about dan is that he really does have the potential to be powerful in canon. like that time in the comics he almost succumbs to the satsui no hado, tries to perform a raging demon, but eats shit immediately and snaps out of it
Imagine thinking petshop was EVER meant to be considered a joke. In the anime / manga petshop was basically a bird sized slasher monster. A cruel and terryfying predator that will not be stopped in his quest for bloodshed.
He isn’t a joke character in game either, the main reason he’s actually banned is because he can get basically free unblockables that can lead into Touch of Death combos, not because he can fly. If anything, flying isn’t a good option due to the fact that he can’t block while above his base flying level

I mean, this is a series with Bizarre in the name. Every character is a bit of a joke. Pet Shop is named Pet Shop, can smile with a beak, and can his wipe his mouth with a wing. For what it's worth, I agree that he doesn't belong on this list, but I like Outside Xbox, and JoJo's is very confusing, so I'll cut them some slack.

When you were talking about Joke characters, and I saw heritage for the future, literally the last character I would consider a joke is petshop. Like, maybe Maria, because her stand is pretty pathetic, especially in a fight. Or maybe Joseph, since Hermit Purple isn't meant to be used in a fight, so you're essentially slapping someone with wires. But Petshop? The first time we see him, he crushes a guy and his car with an ice boulder, and impales two dogs. He makes Iggy bite off his own leg. That bird is fucked
Hermit purple isnt really meant for fighting but joseph is! Bro legit out smarted Dio in part 3, and out smarted basically the whole cast of part 4, and still was an amazing fighter, hermit purple just allows him to hamon zap from far away.

And he didn't exactly outsmart DIO, either. DIO managed to realize what Joseph was planning just in time to avoid a dose of hamon, and the realization of DIO's ability to stop time was thanks to Kakyoin.

Joseph is in no way weak during part 3 and isnt a joke character in this game.

Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. He's literally just a normal dude who is a lawyer by trade. He's the slowest character in the game and has garbage reach for most of his moves. He also has 1 million HP and if he manages to activate turnabout mode all of his attacks will reach halfway across the screen and he gains access to his level 3 hyper combo which is the single most damaging attack in the entire game, and can't be dodged.
Don't forget all his assist moves become absurdly powerful and, as long as he isn't the active character, the timer on his turnabout mode never runs out. So you can activate turnabout mode and then switch to another character, who will be able to call super powerful assists, and if that character gets KO'd then you still have all your turnabout mode timer left as Phoenix.
I mean, he's pretty crazy durable in his games, but yeah, definitely did not expect him to be the strongest Phoenix in a game that includes Jean Grey.
But Phoenix Wright is by no means intended to be a joke character. He was actually a fan favorite added after years of fans asking.
He's a character balanced around being weak in one state and extremely powerful in another, with signicant investment (usually) required to active his turnabout mode, which fighting games are peppered with.
And let's not forget Servbot in MVC2

Well... You could also add Shingo Yabuki. Which WAS a joke character in KOF'97. He almost able to recreate Kyo Kusanagi's moves(though, without flames), but compensates it with ability to deal freakin CRITS. In a fighting game.
Dan in the Udon comics is hysterical. He's convinced that he's Ryu's rival, and Sakura lets him think that she's his apprentice at one point.
She learns and perfects the Hibiki Saikyo-ryu in a week, realizing that it's a mash-up of the fighting styles she's already studied. But to be fair, in the hands of someone actually strong, it actually IS a very powerful fighting style.
I mean she technically does learn from him so in a way she is.

When me and my brothers was younger. We didn't know dan was a joke character and as matter of fact we all loved him as a character in alpha 2. We actually created our own fan fiction with him. We thought he was a blind fighter who ken trained to help he get revenge against saget for killing his father. Lol we didn't find out about the joke background until we grew older and gained access to the internet. Still to this day he's a favorite to us all but only from alpha 1&2.

raynaldo arlen k.eman Konami would have to want to do something with the IP and they haven’t since acquiring the property 15 years ago. It’s super unfortunate, as a game like this would look phenomenal on current consoles. There is hope though, Killer Instinct had almost a 20 year hiatus before releasing on the XBox One.
The hope would be Konami is interested in reviving it or at some point another company want to purchase it. Konami has definitely been sleeping on its IPs with the exception of Metal Gear. There’s a lot of nostalgic games, I would spend mad money on if they released or even re-released.
Mace: The Dark Age also had a killer chicken IIRC. A Sega Saturn game had a car. The original Cho Aniki had an anthropomorphic battleship complete with tiny human crew.

Picking Dan is a very special case because it's a 'no lose' scenario for you. You put the pressure of winning to your opponent alone because nobody wants to be the guy that lost to Dan. And if you lose, well, no pressure because you were just using Dan in a game, treating it like a casual match.

I think you have a somewhat loose definition of the term "joke character". I never thought of Chronos the Phoenix as a joke character. I feel that his penguin form is meant to be a trade-off for having the ridiculously powerful phoenix form. Also, he's the final boss for most of the other fighters in the game.

Danpierre from Soul Calibur 5 was incredible. I made a TF2 BLU Spy with his moveset and it was absolutely hilarious, and really fun to play as.

Nah, while Gon is goofy, I classify him as one of those visiting from different franchise characters like Noctis from FFXV. Gon is the main character of a beloved manga series called, well, Gon and I think there was an anime series too.
Gon was covered on a previous list. In fact, I think he's been on two lists at this point (though I could be remembering that wrong). They probably wanted to give some of the other ridiculous characters a chance for the spotlight.

Pet Shop IS self aware, though. Animals with Stands have their intelligence increased along with gaining their powers, becoming as smart as humans at the least. Iggy's inner monologue even said that Pet Shop wasn't just a vicious killer, but a sadist on par with DIO himself.

Corrections : Heritage For The Future came in 1999 for CPS 3 system. The version you are playing (or using footage) is the 1998 PSX version (Also known as JoJo's Venture) Which lacks some of the characters.

Pet Shop looks like a joke only because you see a bird. There is a reason he is one of Dio's most feared henchmen, and it's because he is absolutely terrifying, cruel, efficient, AND the fact he is a bird gives him an incredible air advantage.
First thing I thought of when I saw joke characters in fighting games was Joxer in the N64 Xena game
Oddly enough, in the one segment where you were showing Chairperson, she was taking on a character named Ran -- Ran Hibiki. It hasn't been verified if Ran is Dan's little sister, or cousin, or niece, but considering her surname is Hibiki, and both games are made by Capcom, they have to be related.
Also one of the story mode paths is a team up of Ran, Chairperson, and Boman Delgado. Speaking of Ran.... she's a photo journalist.
The two Hibiki characters spell Hibiki differently, which suggests they're probably unrelated. Hibiki Ran(ひびき 蘭), vs Hibiki Dan(火引 弾)
Dan is an only child but some other relation could be possible.

I don't know why Andy is surprised Crispy is a terror on the battlefield: chickens are vicious, feral creatures who will literally eat each other for breakfast. Of COURSE Crispy is OP.
The real reason for the Petshop ban, is not because it can fly or too small. It's because its has ability to hold attack button and build up and drop Icicle from top side of the screen, even while blocking. It make attacking Petshop almost impossible, because he can drop those icicle at anytime after it appear on screen. It has no attack animation, don't interrupt his movement, and don't need to use all his attack button (and he still got his stand attack) and Petshop can combo into TOD from those Icicle. So basically, Petshop block attack > Drop Icicle on enemy that stuck in attack animation > TOD > Win.

@@marhawkman303 Sakura Kasugano became a regular in the SF games(including SFXT), so I guess RS was forgotten but one character got saved? Only guest appearance I know of involved Sakura in MvC 2, what others were there?
@@rprealist4869 Actually, Sakura is a guest character in Rival Schools and was created for SF. SF has quite a few teens now, and not the same ones as RS. Canonically it's the same universe so it makes sense for them to cross paths.

Bloody roar is hands down the best fighting game ever made. It definitely needs a remake. (Mostly visual cause the fighting was great)

You missed Akamaru from Naruto Clash of Ninja 2 on the GameCube. That little pup can completely own every other character to a hilarious degree. Mostly because he is nearly impossible to hit and Super Moves don't work on him. Even if someone like Garaa hits him, he just takes a little damage and the Super Move fails.

@@Ramsey276one Cronos is the Prince of the Zoanthropes, which might have something to do with why his Hyper Beast is a phoenix rather than just a powered-up version of his regular beast like most other characters. But, his story wasn't continued in Bloody Roar 4 since he wasn't playable, meaning the exact nature of his power was never addressed.

Pichu was intentionally designed in Melee to be terrible, but between adjustments to Pichu and Ultimate playing very differently to Melee, pichu came back so powerful that the devs had to nerf him in a patch

Bruv where is Piranha plant. You know, the joke character that's extremely underrated that managed to 3-0 the world's best in smash ultimate.
He did that because Smash Ultimate is a shockingly balanced game, so even if a character is underrated, when a good player decides to use them, there's a good chance they can do well. Particularly if the character has specific counterplays that aren't seen much. This is the reason Little Mac has more tournament wins than Marth. Marth is obviously a better character, but since Ultimate is so balanced, you can still pull off a win with Mac at the mid level. Also, no one plays Marth because Lucina exists, but that's beside the point.
