You are so welcome! You can also use this method for just straight canvas without the paper. I would add a grommet every 12 inches all around for loose canvas without paper just because it’s softer.
I love this Sergio, and that you’ve been so generous in sharing your process…thoroughly! I’m guessing this system will work well on smaller canvases as well. I like that it gives buyers the option to hang or put it in a frame, the wrong frame style can sometimes keep a buyer from purchasing a piece!
Thank you! Appreciate your helping other artists & the breadth of your video topics. You’ve just given me a solution to a problem I’ve been thinking about for a year with this video.
As always, thank you so much Sergio. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your beautiful family a happy holiday season and a wonderful 2025✨🎄🍾💫
❤ My dear friend, 🎉😂When I hear you speaking and sharing , I feel like I have known an old friend for a long time. You sharing it very sincerely and useful, ha ha I also love painting with paper.
Thank you-you are most professional non gimmicky artist on TH-cam for folks who want to be professional artists. Yes I really find canvases bulky and don't like to use them, also like large rolls of paper. The only think is COST you are paying for paper AND CANVAS FOR 1 PIECE. TIPS: 1. You could also just tape the edge of the paper before you start painting then remove the tape once it's finished. 2. Big TUBES: I think it's Uline, that sells big tubes more mailing.
I'm glad you like the video and thanks for sharing more tips. The problem with tapeing the edges is that sometimes it can rip the paper when too much paint builds in the edges. I also like having an extra layer of paint all around to reinforce the strnght all around. But yes that can work too. Thanks again and happy new year
Thank you for this Sergio! I too love to work on paper and have been thinking about using unstretched canvas as well. I’m looking forward to trying the combo of both!
You are always such a great artist, generous teacher, marketing genius! Thank you so much ! I might apply this to smaller size ( space issue) Will watch th video about applying paper on the canvas. I assume also the gesso helps maintenig the paper flat. Awesome! Thank you !
Might you share with this beginner artist what kind of large paper is available to us and where do you purchase yours? Thank you in advance. I am very interested in your art!
Wow. I love your paintings. When I went to art school in 1990, I also painted with acrylic paint on aquarel-paper 1 m x 1 m. Thanks for tips🤩 and happy Christmas 🎄🎅
interesting, thanks! Have you made a video on how to ship canvasses on stretcher bars? De-strach it first? And hope it wil be correctly stretched by the owner?
Thank you Sergio, great job on the video...and your art. Just came across your video and glad I did. You make me want to create something. What kind of paper do you normally use?
Fantastic Part 2 about this technique, Sergio. Thank you so much! Question: Do you think it is safe for me to mount a mixed-media paper piece from 30 years ago this way? The piece is on Lennox paper and is sealed well with matte medium. Any special tips or considerations I need to make in this case?
Yes, absolutely. I suggest to first learn the technique and test it on an empty sheet of paper. You can always paint on it later. Once you got it, do the one with the art on it. My main recommendations is to spend long time rolling over the image until it dries completely. Sometimes I roll pressure it for about 45 minutes. The more the better to avoid gaps. Make sure the canvas is primed with a couple coats to be safe. Best of luck!
@sergiogomezart Thank you! Will do! I'll practice on something not so previous to me to work out the kinks and get the technique down first. Gracias, Sergio!!
@sergiogomez thx for the content. Me I particularly liked the wild gestural edges before better. Also how do you store these huge papers while they are not hanging on walls?
Thanks so much for this great series of video about paper on canvas! 🌟 I love using both, and I am wondering if any type of paper can be used this way, or is there only a range that can be attached to canvas. I am thinking of thinner paper.
Always test things out to see what paper works best for you. If you want textures, you can use tissue paper. It can give you a really nice wrinkly surface you can paint on afterwards. If you want smooth surface like mine, then the heavier the paper the better.
@@sergiogomezart That's great advice! I have used thin texture-like paper before and it is really cool. I will experiment with smoother surfaces. Wishing you a great festive season and a great start in the New Year! 🌟😊
Thank you so much Sergio! Just a question. I´d like to know what papers do you use, what grammage? brand? I mostly use 300 grs papers, cotton o partly cotton, acid free, but don´t know if they could be suitable to be then adhered to canvas. Do they have to be thinner? Than you again!
I love this technique - paper on canvas. But I love the depth of stretched canvas. Have you tried stretching your canvas with paper painting adhered? Any tips? (Currently I sell my large works rolled and the customer stretches on their end.)
it is very hard to stretch the paper adhere to canvas to a wood stretch frame. It will break the paper. Not really recommended for this size of works. But it may work for smaller ones
Check out the first video part one of How to Adhere Paper to Canvas. I explain my choice of paper. To avoid air gaps, you want to use as think of a paper as possible. th-cam.com/video/PGLO6DhQ3eI/w-d-xo.html
Yea that is a nice finish too. However when mounting to canvas, it is hard to keep the same look but it may work just fine for you. Let me know if you try it.
I paint on big canvases & spent tons shipping framed canvases! This is excellent technique. This is so much easier to ship. Ty for sharing this!

@@sergiogomezart🙏Ty for that tip as well!

Absolutely. It will perfectly work on a smaller piece. It will be much easier than a big one. Best of luck!
Thanks for sharing..very interesting. Will give it a try..I work large scale on paper.

El papel tiene una absorción diferente y ofrece una riqueza de textura visual con el material que se utilice !!!
Exactamente! Es un material sutil y muy noble. La verdad se oye mas bonito en español verdad? lol

Loved videos1&2
Thanks for letting me know. :). Glad they were helpful
Thank you for sharing your practical knowledge Sergio. What do you think about priming canvas front and back? Linen?
Great idea. It iwll not hurt. Or you do a couple good coats on the side you are going to adhere if you want to keep linen visible in the back side.
interesting, thanks! Have you made a video on how to ship canvasses on stretcher bars? De-strach it first? And hope it wil be correctly stretched by the owner?

It depends on size but sometimes up to 4 without any poblems

Great questions. They can be stored rolled up for year without any problem as long as the roll is wide and not too tight.
@@sergiogomezart :) thx a lot. And afterwards you are going to fatten them again by hanging out?
Where to buy the paper to paint on in large sizes ? Love ur content!!
