I'm almost certian that Yoko Taro is blackmailing the entire upper management of Square Enix. That's the only reason I can come up with of why the Drakengard series is still alive to this day.
Szadek23 Somebody from the upper management is a huge fan of Taro's work. He supposedly stated that as long as Dragon Quest brings them money, Taro can make his games. That's also why they got Platinum to work at Automata - to ensure the game is technically good this time and boost the sales.
Bruce Wayne The development costs went up and the market seemingly shrunk down - you're either indie or big publisher, nothing in-between. I miss it - a lot of my childhood games were those "middle ground" PC titles with a cult-classic status, but limited audience.
Whining Ylthin it really doesn't help that there is this notion that every game needs a several million dollar marketing budget with ludicrous gimmicks to be successful
It's so funny to look back at videos about this franchise from before Automata put it on the map. Side quest fatigue definitely killed a lot of my enjoyment of the game, but I'll be damned if I don't get nostalgic as soon as I hear anything from the OST.
I love that youtubers are really putting an effort to garner attention towards NieR and ultimately Automata. That game *needs* attention and I love that it's getting it.
The only thing I would add to that many recent Nier reviews is the fact that it goes one step beyond anything else with its' narrative. People say things like "games can't do anything a movie or a book didn't do better". Well, I think ending D proves that video games can do a truly unique narrative, only possible within this medium.
I agree strongly with this. With a video game developers are honestly only limited by their imagination at what they can create. There are SO many things you can do with a video game, even if it's simple. I would be lying if I said any moments from a lot of games stick with me as much as Ending D does. Very little things in any kind of media hit me as hard as that did.
People who say that "video gamese can't do anything that a book or movie can do better" either look down on video games as an art form or are the kind of people who just want games to emulate movies.
It's funny that the ost was one of the main things I fell in love with the game but I read many reviews where they felt the music is not varied enough and boring. Strange world.
I really appreciate that you went out of the way to recommend people play the original NieR rather than making a synopsis video like other youtubers are doing with the intent on people skipping the original and diving straight into Automata. It honestly feels like people are going to have their experience cheapened unless they play the original. Or maybe I'm just a bitter fan who's salty about the attention these games have been getting from the mainstream gaming community after being dismissed for so long just because of Platinum being on board for the project.
I was gonna play the original NieR before Automata but there's were too many games I wanted came out from December 2016 up to Nier2's release. I'll be playing it after DS3's 2nd DLC and GR2 DLC comes out instead. Holy shit, the hype of Automata and the lack of digital version made Nier, a 7-year old game, to be as expensive or more than Nier Automata.
I dunno dude, I've watched all cutscenes and jumped into Nier Automata. I'll probably buy Nier just to support the original, but... I don't want to /play/ it
Despite coming out 7 years ago, I still haven't heard a game soundtrack better than Nier. Not even just on musical merit alone, but just how and where the music itself was used and the story its attached to adds so much more weight to an already stellar soundtrack. I really loved Nier, I'm glad it finally got its sequel.
I would add one thing to this review: if you've never played NieR before, and you're interested in giving it a try, do yourself a favor and try doing it with emulation. NieR and Drakengard are well beyond playable with emulators like RPCS3. In fact, they're even better on an emulator than they are on the native hardware. If your computer is good enough, it's definitely worth trying. You can even experience NieR Replicant (the Japanese version of the game with a slightly altered story) fully translated to English thanks to modern emulation. I played Automata years before playing NieR, and even though I had played the objectively "better" game first, I still fell in love with NieR. The clunky combat had a certain charm to it, probably because I could tell where a lot of the gameplay ideas came from for Automata. It was like seeing the early vision of what would eventually become the polished combat system we got in Automata.
I didn't really care for Nier before, but damn I wished I didn't watch SBH's video before this one. SBH didn't really give me a reason to want to play Nier, but Hyper here just did... eh I'll probably still play it anyways for the character development. I did the same for FF13 when I already played FF13-2 before it.
Second this idea heavily. I don't think many people understand just how different the game turned out compared to what it started as in Nomura's vision for Versus XIII.
He keeps saying that NieR isn't the best looking game, but he's wrong, the graphics might not be the sharpest, but no one can deny the quality of the visual design, it's fucking iconic.
Hey HyperBit! This series is spectacular in introducing players to a game as well as acting as a review. I watch reviews for games I haven't played and I don't get a real sense of anything besides a general - this is good, this is bad, but something to the way you acknowledge the flaws and try to build it up as being better than the sum of its parts usually makes me eager to play them. Keep doing what you are doing, your reviews are more influential to me than most!
I absolutely loved this game, went through ending B, C and D all in one day to prepare for Automata. Hoping the sequel is as amazing (or...better) than the original
I like that if you get ending D you can't play again with the same name for nier unless you delete the system data, detail like that helps unchap my ass from having to farm rare items for some of the weapons.
Oh man, thank you so much for giving this series more exposure. I love Nier and the Drakengard series so much, and I really hope Automata sells well. I'd love to see you tackle Drakengard 1 and 3 as well, but I know those games aren't the most easy to play through.
I'll probably get the original Nier after beating the DMC HD Collection and hopefully get Nier Automata on steam since I don't have a PS4. I've been meaning to get into this series for a while actually and this video did a great job of giving me insight.
Nier was such an under rated game that I wish more people played it and saw just how beautiful and awesome this game is. As soon as I started playing it I just couldn't put it down. I'm so looking forward to playing the next one.
very nice video, picked up this game two years ago. Still haven't completely finished it but every once in a while I'll pick it back up and finish an ending.
My brother got Automata and has been urging me to play it, but I had to play the first one first, I have to do things in order. Hell, I watched Drakengard 3 and 1 online and read ALL the content around them, I'm that serious about it. Anyway, finally got this one, going through route B, and it's safe to say this is one of my favorite games now, IT'S SO GOOD! Hell, I loved the story of D3 as well, D1 was... interesting, to say the least, but can't wait to see how Automata plays out, Yoko Taro is a beutiful genius.
Thank you for this video. Compared especially to SBH's video you're actually focusing on the meat of the game and where it's focus is rather than the godamn wiki page. This is a game with edges blemishes and imperfections, but dang it, it's got heart and balls in ways most games just don't.
Thank you for covering Nier especially in time for the sequel. It's certainly maintained a niche standing, and it's difficult to tell people what makes this game so amazing without ruining the magic. Despite telling most everyone who will give me the time that it's a game worth playing, I am still the only person I know who has played the game. I've loved it since its launch and consider it one of my favorites. I hope others will give it a chance and can get the same enjoyment out of the game that I have.
I love your videos hyperbithero and I do think this one does do a good job at selling the game, however I think you may of shown a bit TOO much of the game in this. Both in some pretty story important scenes as well as just the small little surprises like the book section which part of the fun was how unexpected it is. The only part I find particularly egregious is that you showed the shadowlord at all cause that part was kind of meant to be a big surprise especially with him taking yonah which you also showed.
Actually just finished this game this week. Took me several months to finish (I don't have much time to play games these days). Shit was so dark (and good). I didn't realize there were 4 endings... I might just watch them online instead of trying to unlock all of them since I already dumped a stupid amount of time into this.
I'd love to see what NieR would be like if it followed Drakengard's ending D instead of ending E. I wan't to fight me some giant scary floating cannibal babies.
Ok, I finished the game last night with all 4 endings(You really only need to replay the game 3 times and make a final save before the final dungeon to get all the endings). I knew I would like it and I figured out that I was farther than 1/3 through the game. More like 2/3rds. I thought it was great and I felt down after I experienced everything....until I popped in Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan and saw the opening and cheered up instantly that is.(I am a simple man) Great game for what it was and I definitely want to play Automata and Drakengard at some point. I think I might want to play Drakengard 3 too...but we'll see. Great video HBH, I'm glad I chose not to watch this video before finishing the game. There are a lot of things visually that I never saw that I was glad to see for the first time without it hurting my experience a bit.
I love this game sooo much! It really goes through all emotions. I usually don't like those games with a big map and several sidequests. Skyrim bored me, The Wichter 3 also cause they filled them not with the thing that drives one trough a world like that, neighter the mistery nor the empathy. It's usefull to know that you get nothing for completing sidequests in Nier, no XP and maybe a little reward. But this is the one game where I finished all of them in my first run of the game, even the fishing and gardening quests, because they rewarded me with something much more valuable than XP and something those other games just couldn't pull of right...little stories of the people that world. All centered around the themes of death, loss, sacrifice, sorrow. All in small steps. Like this... There is the *minor spoiler begin* story of an old sick man who has a dog he loves but he ran away. He want's to see him again, worries about him and just want's to connect again before he dies from illnes and he's of course sad that his long time companion left him. Eventually you find the dog dead, killed by shades with a leaf between his teeth. You go back to the old man, to tell him you found his dog with the theme "he will be heartbroken" only to find out the old man, you got to know though some small conversations, passed away due to his illnes. The person (can't remember who) you meet there gives a hint that the leaf you found is an incredient to a medicine for the old mans illness. *minor spoiler end* And there are the times when you go fishing and your pal, a book who can't do anything but talk, isn't allowed to talk because he would scare away the fishes and, while beeing the stick in the butt scolary type usually, get's cranky like a litte kid, cause he's bored which is sooo funny you...continue fishing! Just to piss him off! :D And there is Emile and the probably saddest moment (even for this game) you probalby encounter in any movie or game and I won't spoil it, just to be said, if the prologue of The Last of Us got you emotional attached, get ready to dry out out in this game! It's one of a kind and while Automata managed to have the better gameplay, Nier is still the superior game!
I would say that N:A topped NieR on storytelling and world design while improving on story and gameplay and keeping the same level of quality in terms of deepness and emotional impact. With all my love for the first NieR, it's definitely a win for Automata imo
@@blasuqar I agree that Automata is the better game in many ways, but in most catergories you find better ones elsewhere, like combat or levelling, world design ect. but I like the premise, the scenario, the characters and the story of the first one more, that's the thing I love this game for and the only thing where Automata was a little disappointing, I went to all sorts of emotions in the first NieR, it has the sadest moments in gaming history for me, Automata left me a little cold, because I prepared for NieR levels of emotions. Also Automata kind of negates the " sadest moments in gaming history" later in the game. And while both soundtracks are awesome, I love the first one more. Automata is the better "game", NieR is the better "experience".
@@marcbraun5342 the point I was making is precisely that no, N:A also wins as an experience. I don't really mind the technical and gameplay improvements in N:A in comparison to NieR, even if they are welcome. But what matters to me is that N:A kept the level of depth and reflexion the first NieR as well as its emotional impact had while making an objectively better story (in the basic definition, just in the succession of events and the direct interaction of the characters with the world) and pushing the limits of videogame storytelling even further than the first NieR (which is a complete success in that field). To be honest, the "story" of NieR is objectively a bit clunky (which I didn't really care btw, making a consistent and complete "story" is not Yoko's goals, his targets is 1) to make you feel 2) to make you think 3) to push viedogame storytelling forward) , but N:A managed nonetheless to make something good, if not really good. With this, with the improvement of the sidequests, atmosphere and environmental storytelling, the worldof N:A is far more engaging than the one of NieR, and I really don't see that the tale of our androids trying to convince themselves that they have a place on Earth and having to face a tyranny they have built for themselves less impacting than NieR's struggle to cure his daughter and ending up dooming the world because he was too convinced to be right (which was great, I am by no means criticizing NieR, I just can't agree with people telling that N:A is only a gameplay improvement of NieR that is nothing in front of its predecessor otherwise). In fact, the only point on which NieR objectively wins in front of N:A imo (and I think that justifies many of the speeches that put it above N:A), is in the attachement you will feel to the characters. But this is not because N:A's characters are worst, it's because they are characters who are seeking themselves, they are defined in their evolution, not in who they are at the beginning. The only full-fledged characters that are present from the beginning in the main cast are Adam, the Commander, and 2B, but the first two don't spend 10 hours on screen, and we don't understand 2B, who she is and what she wants before 99% of the game, so I understand that people relate less to her than to a Kaine or a Weiss during the playthrough.
I watched the cutscenes/dialogue for both drakengard and nier on youtube instead of playing the games in preparation for automata. If you're interested in automata and want to learn the story before playing like I did I recommend you do the same, the actual gameplay for both these games, especially drakengard is not very good but the story is very intriguing. Also reading up on the nier timeline found on the wiki is a good way to get an overall idea about the events of the spin off novellas/stories which are key to fully understanding the story.
Kinda confused cause the game is called Nier and the main characters name is Nier but Nier: automata has nothing to do Nier it is based on Androids and Machine Lifeforms.
This is one of those games where I have a constant self-debate of whether I should play it myself, or just watch a play through. Gameplay looks kinda interesting but I heard it drags on.
I'm really glad you managed to summerize why the original Nier is good and enticing people to play it (with minimal spoilers no less) instead of just making a straight up recap to get people up to speed with automata. No offence to people getting into the series via Automata, I just think the original is something where playing the whole thing or at least watching / reading a let's play (I suggest the Dark id for this and the drakengard franchise as a whole) is really worth it, especially for ending D.
Ha! I knew you'd do a Nier video! (or I just hoped) Nier is in my top3 games from the last generation. I can't put my finger on why I like it the most. The sum of it's parts makes a great and unique experience that I have a smile on my face every time a cool part jumps into my mind. More people should (have) play(ed) the first Nier game. I'm suffering my way through Drakengard to get the most out of the series :)
I mean i agree with everything you're saying, but back when Nier came out I would've thoguht you were beying way too critical. When this game came out I was blown away by how much fun I had playing it. The closest thing I've played to nier, before nier, was like... Crisis Core or something. You gotta keep in mind this game came out in like 2011.
This series is a great idea! I love it. And I love Nier. You should look up Xenosaga, if you like Nier. They're obviously different, but there are quite a few similarities.
I've heard nothing but amazing things about this game, and I actually was *very* interested in buying and playing it on my PS3 about several or so months ago. Sadly, the game has seen *massive* price spikes since the announcement and release of it's sequel (in Japan,) so getting it was just a bit too hard just about anywhere I looked. Unless the game gets a remaster on PS4 or the prices for it eventually goes down, I and many others will never be able to play it, and that just sucks considering how incredibly good it looks.
NieR is one of the few games that takes full advantage of being a video game with it's story *cough cough* The Last of Us doesn't even try*cough cough*
I fell in love with the soundtrack when it came out, but I didn't buy a PS3 for a few years, so by the time I had the means to play it, the game wasn't really reasonably priced anymore. Looking now, it seems like it's gone down in price again and is only about $40, so maybe I'll finally pick it up. Having to dust off the PS3 and play it on that isn't an especially appealing idea, though, so maybe I won't and will just wait for it to be emulatable in a few (maybe several) years.
Check out Clemp's analysis of Nier for an in-depth look at this game's crazy story. Especially if you want to play Automata but don't want to go back and play the first game.
_"It just sort of does what it wants because it was directed by a crazy man [...]"_ Combining a crazy visionary like Yoko Taro with a developer that can make very mechanically sound games was a terrific move which I hope continues into the future.
I know it's a visual novel, but have you ever considered doing a your next favourite on Danganronpa? It seems like something that'd be right up your alley, if a bit weird at times
nier is my favourite game. Even with the flaws in its gameplay and visuals the story and soundtrack are enough to make it stand out as one of my favourite video game experiences. I can't wait for automata and I hope it is able to surpass nier in every way possible
The combat isn't the better ever made but I thought it was better than people give it credit, while nowhere near Bayonetta levels of combat, I still had fun with NieR's combat despite being simplistic.
Just some auto disliker someone has set to my videos. Has happened instantly to my past 3 videos now. Please leave a like to counteract it. Thank you! Edit: See, now they're gone. What's up with that?
Too bad is not digital, i can find it in my country. I hope for a remaster collection that includes this version and the Replicant version of the game.
I've heard it will get a remaster if NeiR Automata sells well, and since the collector's edition is already sold out i'd say it's already selling well through pre-orders.
So is this like a JoJo part where you don't need to read the parts piror to enjoy it but it's highly recommended or a Type Moon Nasu verse kinda thing where they just happen to take place in the same universe?
Lord Blue balls I'd say it's closer to the latter, you don't really NEED any knowledge of Drakengard 1 and the specific ending that spun off into Nier, it's just kind of a neat little bonus at most.
Nier really was a fantastic ride, one of the few games that makes you keep playing because of it's story. I heard Drakenguard 3 was a little weaker but is it still worth experiencing? Some people have said the localization fucked around with it a bit but I still want to give it a whirl if it's not too bad.
Jesus, that DLC is more expensive than the main game. If I'm buying Drakenguard 3 I ain't paying for that. I'm mostly worried about 8-4's track record of changing dialogue and character personalities in their localizations than the price though.
I dont recommend Drakengard 3 , its shit and is concious about that (some parts mock the level design and so on) and the final boss is one of the most sadist/bullshit things a videogame can do to a player. About the localization, i actually like it, true they give Zero a bitch personality instead of an "empty" one but it still works.
I'll NEVER understand the gameplay complaints whenever people talk about Nier. It's the reason why I was so hyped about the game until when it was released I instantly forgot it when it was destroyed by reviewers. I only went back and finished it 4 years later when I found out how shit most reviewers taste in games/combat was. It's not bad by any measure and every weapon feels very different, both in weight and range. There really aren't SO many action RPG to get to say that its combat is anything but above average.
The combat is average dude. If it weren't because you unlock more weapons and attacks later on (and most attacks are not really helpful), what you get on the first two hours is what you get till you finish the game. It's repetitive as hell until the end, with 30 seconds of actual enjoyment with each bossfight and nonde with the usual enemies.
I thought about actually watching this video, but I think I want to be completely unspoiled this time. I was playing this game on Xbox, got about...1/3 of the way through and had to stop due to life.(And the fact that I rented it) Now the game is rare-ish and I can't seem to find it at a local gamestop on PS3.(I'd play it again on 360, but that's been in the storage for a suspiciously long time. I WILL start from scratch if I have to, I loved that game.
I'm almost certian that Yoko Taro is blackmailing the entire upper management of Square Enix.

Whining Ylthin Really? I think that's great in a medium where money is almost all that matters
I wish consoles had more of these weird midbudget japanese games. The ps2 was loaded with them but theyre all gone now.
Bruce Wayne Vita ports on PS4 basically fill that void.
There are Vita games and higher-budget indie titles, but it means a) owning a Vita, b) digging through piles upon piles of indie games.
World of FF and Gravity Rush aren't on PC which is what I was mostly referring to.
But yea most are on PC. PC has most everything.
Nison545 Then you find out they're mostly paid promotions.
LOL that would not be the best move on their part.
+Diet Mountain Madewka You nailed it.
Hell yea. I actually just beat automata and I'm doing a review on it. Automata is easily platinum's best game you guys should seriously check it out
+SkyrimSoldier That's a pretty big accusation. Something like an undisclosed sponsorship would get someone into a lot of legal trouble.

"Deadly Premonition | Your Next Favorite"
must happen
Your Next Favorite Soundtrack. It's difficult to overstate just how fucking GOOD the ost is.
I've probably annoyed most people who discuss music with me as I'll continuously praise Nier for having one of the best soundtracks every composed.
It's funny that the ost was one of the main things I fell in love with the game but I read many reviews where they felt the music is not varied enough and boring. Strange world.
pseudogenesis have you listened to Automata's ost yet? It somehow surpasses its predecessor. It's so good!
str8Jonesing I haven't, I didn't even know it was out! Do you have a link?
The only game capable of beating this game OST is Bully imo.
I love how much hype NieR is getting. I'm so happy that we're getting a game that has gameplay on par with Yoko Taro's vision.
I really appreciate that you went out of the way to recommend people play the original NieR rather than making a synopsis video like other youtubers are doing with the intent on people skipping the original and diving straight into Automata. the story is bullshit anyway lel
It's kinda hard to get your hands and even when you do your gonna have to suffer some insanely repetitive gameplay
Huke Sama the average price of Nier in the PAL region is 15-20 bucks.
Got my 360 version for like 17.
Is it that bad elsewhere?

Everyone is covering nier.
Superbunnyhops
Mr. clemps.
Even this man.
Good games attract good people.
Takaya Sakaki Unlike those videos, this isn't a plot summary. I'd say this video is the antithesis of SBH's video.
I love you

but he's the only decent one :(
The remake/remaster of this game was so good
Fool, jank is what I live for.
"turns into a visual novel"
I thought it was a text adventure. There was no fanservice in it after all.
So any thoughts on a Final Fantasy Versus XIII Lost In Concept video?
Second this idea heavily. I don't think many people understand just how different the game turned out compared to what it started as in Nomura's vision for Versus XIII.
I'll be happy to see that too.
Takeshi Fujiwara Yea a Versus XIII trilogy about emo gits sounds amazing.
+Thanatos388
Beats the unfinished game with an unfinished story and a main character with no personality that we got.
Papa Nier is cuter than Saber
debatable
「kragor」 no
If anything else I prefer Papa Nier's design over Replicant's Brother Nier.
Emil is cuter than Saber.
Nicolas Liz Lima
But isn't as cute as big bro replicant though.
He keeps saying that NieR isn't the best looking game, but he's wrong, the graphics might not be the sharpest, but no one can deny the quality of the visual design, it's fucking iconic.

If only I could GET THIS DAMN GAME! I'm in love with it and I haven't even been able to play it.
the best "under the radar"-channel there is!
Recently finished it and got all the endings. really enjoyed it for what it was even with it's few flaws (few to me)
If only NieR got this attention when it came out rather than a 6.0 rating.
A bunch of really good NieR videos coming out lately, I might have to check out Automata. Good job, man.
This is one of my favorite channels
Actually just finished this game this week. Took me several months to finish (I don't have much time to play games these days). Shit was so dark (and good). I didn't realize there were 4 endings... I might just watch them online instead of trying to unlock all of them since I already dumped a stupid amount of time into this.
Nice video. I'm so glad that lately NieR is getting the recognition it deserves.
I'd love to see what NieR would be like if it followed Drakengard's ending D instead of ending E. I wan't to fight me some giant scary floating cannibal babies.
I don't really get why people put down the gameplay so much. The gameplay is great and unique.
Ok, I finished the game last night with all 4 endings(You really only need to replay the game 3 times and make a final save before the final dungeon to get all the endings).
I knew I would like it and I figured out that I was farther than 1/3 through the game. More like 2/3rds. I thought it was great and I felt down after I experienced everything....until I popped in Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan and saw the opening and cheered up instantly that is.(I am a simple man)
Great game for what it was and I definitely want to play Automata and Drakengard at some point. I think I might want to play Drakengard 3 too...but we'll see. Great video HBH, I'm glad I chose not to watch this video before finishing the game. There are a lot of things visually that I never saw that I was glad to see for the first time without it hurting my experience a bit.
It's actually nice to see NieR finally starting to get the attention it deserves.
*minor spoiler end*
And there are the times when you go fishing and your pal, a book who can't do anything but talk, isn't allowed to talk because he would scare away the fishes and, while beeing the stick in the butt scolary type usually, get's cranky like a litte kid, cause he's bored which is sooo funny you...continue fishing! Just to piss him off! :D
And there is Emile and the probably saddest moment (even for this game) you probalby encounter in any movie or game and I won't spoil it, just to be said, if the prologue of The Last of Us got you emotional attached, get ready to dry out out in this game!
"It's no Fate/Stay Night"
God I fucking hope not.
You kept me waiting, Boss.
Kinda confused cause the game is called Nier and the main characters name is Nier but Nier: automata has nothing to do Nier it is based on Androids and Machine Lifeforms.
I just watched the cutscenes and bought Automata. I'm IN LOVE with the game! Thanks Dad!
This is one of those games where I have a constant self-debate of whether I should play it myself, or just watch a play through. Gameplay looks kinda interesting but I heard it drags on.
Dude you've successfully what will this series become after Automata, and Yes it is AWESOME
You know what would be totes awesome? Platinum games remake of Nier where you can choose to play as Brother Nier or Dad Nier.
MrClemps+Hyperbithero= dream duo.
love Nier, best soundtrack ever, awesome story
Nier is one of my favorite games ever, it's a shame not that many people have played.
I was actually hoping you'd do one of these for this series since it looks pretty interesting...
nier automata is on the top of steam sales. rejoice!
Yoko Taro is like the Takeshi Kitano of video games
That nice lady forgot to wear her pants
this game is so good it's a sin if you never played it. hopefully square enix remasters it for current gen.
wow I'm definitly checking out Automata. I always thought that these Nier games where turn-based JRPGs
Jokes on you. Nier has already been my favorite game for years.
NieR is one of the few games that takes full advantage of being a video game with it's story *cough cough* The Last of Us doesn't even try*cough cough*
DadNier is best NieR
10/10 would NieR again
I fell in love with the soundtrack when it came out, but I didn't buy a PS3 for a few years, so by the time I had the means to play it, the game wasn't really reasonably priced anymore. Looking now, it seems like it's gone down in price again and is only about $40, so maybe I'll finally pick it up. Having to dust off the PS3 and play it on that isn't an especially appealing idea, though, so maybe I won't and will just wait for it to be emulatable in a few (maybe several) years.
If anybody wants a full analysis of Drakengard 1, 2, 3, and NieR Then look for a youtuber named Clemps.
It’s the best looking and the best playing game to me tbh
More people need to play this
I'd love to buy the first nier but it's rare as hell here, the only EB games that has it is at the other side of the country.
Out of curiosity, is Way of the Samurai anything you'd consider making a YNF for, or does it not warrant that in your eyes?
I hate that I often forget about Way of the Samurai. I'd love to see a fifth. Wonder what HBH thinks of it. I hardly ever hear anyone talk about it.
Check out Clemp's analysis of Nier for an in-depth look at this game's crazy story. Especially if you want to play Automata but don't want to go back and play the first game.
I didnt know nier was related to drakengard, i love drakengard 1. Still got it for the ps2.
Great job, now to watch the Automata video
I want platinum to remake Nier, and drakengard.
It's a Nier perfect game.
_"It just sort of does what it wants because it was directed by a crazy man [...]"_
Combining a crazy visionary like Yoko Taro with a developer that can make very mechanically sound games was a terrific move which I hope continues into the future.
"Oh fug! Dad's a benis!!!"
i wish it was on pc too...dont have a ps3 or 360 to try it
Now, if I only I could find a copy.
let's be real here. Without 2b's butt memes, no one would've looked on this franchise lol
I know it's a visual novel, but have you ever considered doing a your next favourite on Danganronpa? It seems like something that'd be right up your alley, if a bit weird at times
also i see lost odyssey in the future of this series
nier is my favourite game. Even with the flaws in its gameplay and visuals the story and soundtrack are enough to make it stand out as one of my favourite video game experiences. I can't wait for automata and I hope it is able to surpass nier in every way possible
hell yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssss new hyperbit vid!!!
Just in time for the sequel. Shame there isn't a way for PC gamers to play the first one (outside of emulation of course).
The combat isn't the better ever made but I thought it was better than people give it credit, while nowhere near Bayonetta levels of combat, I still had fun with NieR's combat despite being simplistic.
If you have a solid enough system the rpcs3 emulator will allow you to run nier at 60fps
Came in and 16 likes and 5 dislikes. Whut?!
Just some auto disliker someone has set to my videos. Has happened instantly to my past 3 videos now.
Please leave a like to counteract it. Thank you!
Edit: See, now they're gone. What's up with that?
HyperBitHero I only see 1 dislike
MAGIC!
what a strange place youtube is
Too bad is not digital, i can find it in my country.
Cool, I also hear Drakengard 1 and 2 faced heavy censorship with their western releases
just skip drakengard 2
Nier really was a fantastic ride, one of the few games that makes you keep playing because of it's story. I heard Drakenguard 3 was a little weaker but is it still worth experiencing? Some people have said the localization fucked around with it a bit but I still want to give it a whirl if it's not too bad.
Nothing Here Square bullshited us with prequel DLC content. It's hella expensive, but expands the lore and backstory of certain characters.
Update, I found the PS3 version at a gamestop miraculously. Time to give it a restart.
This was awesome dude. Needs more 2B booty
