It’s interesting for people to freak out about these bags she’s seemed so cool and laid back ; not that she didn’t like fashion but she didn’t seem Stuffy … the bag Carries her namesake but not her cool chic aesthetic

I was so privileged to see her at the Beacon Theatre in NYC several years ago performing Serge Gainsbourg's songs. Her special guest was Iggy Pop, but the best surprise was when she did her and Serge's famous duet "J'taime" with their daughter Charlotte! Magical night, beautiful legendary woman. Jane's daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg is one of my favorite actresses. RIP to Jane 🌹 She was such a natural beauty. Now I wouldn't spend big bucks on a bag though. I'm happy with my $15 personalized canvas tote bag.

I watched a video on what designer bags are actually worth before markup & it was shocking. Basically you pay for the leather & the hardware & some labour then they slap the designer name on it & charge 85% -90% markup 😮ridiculous. Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn’t. I could give that to my family instead!
My thoughts exactly. I watched Clint Eastwoods wife's reality show and his daughter Francesca came home with one of these bags. Her stepmother made her return it and give the money to her charity of her choice. I was proud she done that...
I didn't know Jane Birken until I heard about her death a few days ago. She had an interesting life. I knew that the Birkin bags were expensive but 100k? That bag is clearly out of my budget. Even if I had the money I wouldn't spend it on a handbag.

Tbh when she met Serge Gainsbourg and he took her to Pigalle on their first date and she mentioned she was impressed that all the prostitutes knew him by name it showed me how naive she really was.

The bag weighs 2 pounds empty, it is constructed very well, taking the Hermes artisan 48 hours to construct just merely one bag. These are not you Coach bags which are made in China. The Birkin by Hermes used to be a custom order, the most expensive was 380k but the company does not take custom orders anymore. I believe you can rent a Birkin at the weekly rate of 295.00 USD.
I would much rather take a beautifully made soft leather bag with no name brand on it. I want a subtle bag, very well made, perhaps black and carry it with me til the day I die👩🏻💻
I learned who Jane Birkin was from seeing the film If Don Juan was a Woman. Her and Brigitte Bardot where soo beautiful and iconic for their style and personality! They where free women at the time. They where pioneers for style and fashion and being cool back then. Thank you for this upload!

About the Birkin bag- it's such a shame that became so overhyped. The price now is ridiculous and normally ASA normal mortal you can't even get a new edition one because the the rich and famous have been already put on a waiting list.
My mum was in Paris on a trip not long after the first Birkin bag came out. She bought a black one for a now ridiculously price.
It's still ❤️ beautiful, the leather is of prime quality and she gave it to me.

Now as for Birken bags, I've never been a handbag gal, so I don't really have much of an opinion on them besides thinking they're absurdly priced. If anything, they remind me of the bags I used to see the older ladies in church carry around.

Probably more: apparently each bag are handmade by a single craftwoman and it take 40 hours to make one ( so a weekly salary for a skilled and trained worker in Paris - where the rent are the highest in France - must be at least 2000 euros ). So add the cost of some fancy leather, all company' bills, etc., and they can get pretty pricey. But yeah, 100,000$ is ridiculous...
I think the bag looks average, but some people will pay to have something that an icon has. As if it makes them apart of their elite group.
Birkins are an investment, not a purchase.

Honestly I went to the website when the hype for it first started, there are so many better looking bags on the site than the ones the celebrities are always buying. I never understood why that bag was the pin point of over publicize when there's other and better designs. Especially the price point, its better to buy it vintage if you rather blow that much on a bag.

Funny that TH-cam suggested me this video because this morning I was listening to online radio and Je t’aime Moi Non Plus came on. I must have been living under a rock because I knew the song since childhood but had no idea Jane Birkin was behind the female vocals 🙄 It is indeed risqué. True that the Birkin bags are investiment pieces but it bothers me that some are made with baby crocodile skin. The poor animals are skinned alive and so are the pythons 😮 And the design is boring, it does nothing to me. As for the movie La Piscine, Jane Birkin acted beside Alain Delon and Romy Schneider. Both women lost a child in similar circunstances. By the way, I would love to see a video on Romy on this channel if you have time 🙂
