  • Former ballerina Ashley Benefield is accused of killing her husband, Douglas Benefield, in September 2020. The Florida couple were in the middle of a heated custody battle when Ashley shot Doug. Prosecutors believe Ashley murdered Doug so she could gain full custody of their young daughter, however, Ashley claims she shot Doug in self-defense after months of alleged abuse. The medical examiner does not believe Doug was facing Ashley when she fired off four rounds at him.

An "abuser"that lets his victim hold arms, go on a cruise with friends, reprehend his daughter, that takes her to live with her mom and even start dating. Then she invites the "abuser" to her house to help her move and she kills him. Is she really playing the victim here? nobody bites that.

And also….the mother said that Doug took Ashley to her mothers and said “you have to take care of her”(or something along that line)…well abusers typically shelter their victims from others(especially their family)so that makes no sense in my opinion. If he was abusing her….why take her to her mother?? And I agree…..if Ashley was so fearful of Doug….why on earth would the mother continue to the park when she saw him pull in. As a survivor of DV and a DVPO that lasted nearly 9 years (while having to deal with custody and co-parenting), I can't help but think that this woman has some serious psychological problems. I know that some would think that because of my history that I would _likely_ *ALWAYS* believe the "victim," but if there's something I've learned over the past almost 10 years, it's that many "victims," actually lie to try to use that status in custody cases.

He ADMITTED to punching their dog out of anger, throwing their cat, punching a wall, throwing a gun at Ashley, and shooting a gun into the ceiling out of frustration (at Ashley) during an argument... and the judge isn't letting this evidence in??? This is appalling. This is a prime example of a prosecutor trying to win at all costs...like, who cares about justice, right??
It's pretty disgusting that people are cheering on the judge's ruling because they personally dislike Ashley because of the way she looks, acts, or cries etc. She's not the "perfect victim" so people would rather the judge bury all the evidence of Doug's ADMITTED domestic violence and send this woman to jail. He was 54 YEARS OLD, she was 24....he ADMITTED to abusing animals, shooting guns as an intimidation tactic, punching walls, and his ex-wife said he kicked her. He was rich, well-connected, experienced...and she wasn't. He had all the power over her in their relationship. He married her after 13 days and didn't tell his 15 year old daughter about it until afterwards. And people want to take his side and pick on Ashley's appearance instead? Accuse HER of being the evil, cunning, seductress? Sure. Let's blame the 24 year old and not the 54 year old rich man with a history of domestic violence. I'm sure she took advantage of him and not the other way around. Makes sense. This is classic misogyny and very gross. I thought we were past this kind of victim blaming in 2024, but I guess some people will always side with the abuser, no matter what. Sad.

I agree with you about people disliking Ashley Benefield because of her appearance, behaviour, etc, which is nonsensical and she should not be judged on that, but only on the evidence provided in court. However, I don't agree with you one bit about the "evidence" regarding Doug Benefield's behaviour.
Just as others condemn Ashley without the full evidence being heard, it appears that you're doing exactly the same and blaming Doug as an, "abuser" of a young woman, and you've alleged that Ashley is the victim here.
As 'evidence,' you've listed the details of what Doug "admitted" to in another hearing, but what you don't mention is that the order made in that court hearing regarding no contact was a MUTUAL order. Ashley went to court to obtain the order, but what was heard there resulted in the judge issuing an order which also prevented HER from contacting Doug. That's why it would be unfair to 'blame' Doug Benefield on what Ashley said about him in the hearing to obtain the restraining order, without also hearing what Ashley had ADMITTED to regarding HER behaviour! For that reason, I won't be, "victim blaming" (as YOU are clearly doing!), I'd prefer to hear the full evidence in this court.... and when it comes to your condescending comment, "I thought we were past this kind of victim blaming in 2024, but I guess some people will always side with the abuser, no matter what", you're just a hypocrite because you're doing the very same thing that you're condemning others for!
The truth of the matter is that (whatever anyone says about her) Ashley is presumed innocent until proven guilty 'beyond reasonable doubt', and until the full evidence is heard and a decision is made in court, the ONLY 'victim' here is the man who is dead, Doug Benefield.

When this case hinges on Ashley's defence of domestic abuse, I think it is staggering that the judge refuses to allow any evidence of Doug's abuse, when clearly there is substantial evidence that he abused her! The judges ruling meant that Doug's lawyer was allowed to spew lies on the stand, knowing that the defence were not allowed to enter into evidence the truth, the judge even denied the defences motion that she had perjured herself, when clearly she did, and done so knowingly, when she knew he admitted the abuse in a court hearing.
And just while I'm on the subject of Doug's lawyer, being a lawyer, you would think she would know how to dress appropriately for court, but no, she showed up in a floaty cerise pink number, more suited to a cocktail party, on a yacht in Monaco, complete with clippity-clop heels! Her constant smiling was unnerving, like she didn't realise it was a murder trial, and she seemed quite ecstatic that she could say what she wanted, and the defence would not be allowed to present the truth!

    • @drxntrik
      @drxntrik 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

The witness is a couples’ counselor. On direct examination by the DA, he testified Ashley’s demeanor was different when he saw her alone than when he saw her and Doug together.
On cross, the defense lawyer’s first question was how she was different. The witness said when she was alone, she spoke about incidents when Doug acted violently, and began to mention firing a gun at the kitchen ceiling and punching the dog, when the DA’s objection was sustained.
The witness smiled and emitted an exaggerated sigh, which the defense lawyer (and I) took as a comment on the irony that the rules of evidence, which are supposed to facilitate the search for the truth, sometimes get in the way of finding the truth.
The defense lawyer laughed and commented, “You don’t know the half of it,” or words to that effect.
The judge perceived that as an expression of the defense counsel’s disagreement with the judge’s rulings in front of the jury, which the judge said he considered unprofessional and misconduct.

The best judge of dad is his grown daughter, I think she was well prepared to shoot Doug, it seems to be her plan all along, this business with the child birth and birth certificate is really telling on the mind set , really who does that to a dad..dad wad military and being a military mans daughter and marrying a military man myself they are military minded sometimes when they encounter situations that are not on the straight and narrow, not physical, just express their frustration in a bolder way.
There is no doubt she played with his love and she was not being honest, she was very pushie and complained over and over about what she did not like, we all see women who just wont let go and drive a person nuts in doing so..this is complicated as most relationships that do not work out go..she had zero reason to think Doug would harm the baby. And above all ..I think she shot him while he was not turned towards her, she planned this and getting a divorce, fighting over child custody is no reason to kill this man..he jumped through hoops at any of her requests, even willing to move to another state..he gave her what she wanted, he loved her despite their troubles..for killing him in cold blood and destroying many lives because she wanted it all her way no matter what, yea I would find her guilty of murder. She took a life, her childs fathers life, his daughters life , for what..?

It’s not an option. It’s a lie told by psycho “lawyer” Stephanie Murphy. If you guys want to know the truth, the actual transcripts from the court hearings are available online. Doug actually admits that he shot the gun into the ceiling just to make Ashley be quiet and that he did punch the dog in the face amongst other things. This lawyer needs to have her barcode taken from her. I truly hope that they have filed complaints to the Florida bar against her because she definitely perjured herself. The judge is so biased. I feel certain that this young lady will get a new trial.

It’s NOT an option. The heavily biased decedent’s prior attorney fabricated that, and I hope that she loses her law license over it. I hope that this does result in a new trial for this defendant. I have never seen such a heavily biased judge either. This trial is fundamentally unfair. I have no idea about Ashley’s innocence or guilt, but one thing I know for sure she did not get a fair trial, and every defendant is entitled to one.

How does that make any sense?
