Got him down last night. One of the most stressful and annoying encounters I can remember on any game I’ve played. No disrespect to this guide and really appreciate the time spent making it, it just wasn’t hugely helpful for me. Here’s how I did it (normal): 1. Hold square at the previous cut scene to be able to heal and replenish mana. Make sure you’ve got the item enhancer materials on if you have it (the one that lets you use without ATB and the boosted effect one). 2. Don’t block at all. Just roll and keep firing shots at him with the Igenous blade. He’ll be immune to most of them but any small attacks that land will boost your ATB bar. Whenever you get a pressure on him (which honestly happened to me more by fluke than design) hit him with focused strike 3. Keep haste up at all times as a priority. Spam potions whenever you’re at about 1/3 of your max life 4. Save limit break for when his annoying dog comes out as I found it literally impossible to fight both of them. A limit break on the dog and then spamming attack will stagger and then you can finish off quite quickly 5. By constantly rolling away from him you won’t get hit by the majority of his attacks so just keep doing that and make sure your life doesn’t drop too low and it’s doable This was all on normal. Awful, awful design for this fight. Shame

Dude thank God this was the only time I literally threw my controller playing this game. I ended up just doing what you said with disorder and then when the dog came out I summoned bahamut arisen and he took Rufus out pretty quickly this fight is So frustrating!
Thanks so much, dude -- this really helped me! I finally beat him after watching your video, gearing up accordingly, and following your recommendations.
I think the first time I've seen anything about you, it was your Rufus. Now I'm here, a huge fan of you seeing your new guide on Rebirth Rufus. It makes me happy. Gotta say, this fight just like Remake's kinda sucks if you don't do these strats. Now sure, they can be a cakewalk if you know what you're doing, but I think it kinda sucks that you can't exactly hit him unless he does some dumb reload move. Other than that, it was a cool fight. It just feels a little unfair.
They made Rufus overpowered in both games so far. The fight in this game annoyed me more because the first game had a mild difference in combat style. i managed the win but not without extreme annoyance. They made him overpowered for the sake of him being over powered.
I’m getting to the second phase without too much issue but dying straight away with the 2 of them attacking. By far the hardest boss so far in the game!
I struggled with this fight for hours, trying to whittle him down using Braver, and failed every time. After watching your video and following your advice, got him on the first go. Thank you so much!
Top video, exactly what i was looking for after probably 30 attempts haha i had no idea disorder was that good and never used it tbh, lesson learnt become familiar with ALL abilities

yeah playing this fight has pretty much made me say screw the plat trophy for this game. some of those mini games were pissing me off as it is. This fight will be bullshit on hard. Not worth it in my opinion.
@@itsbeeva I love the game in general. But anything on the hard mode is a b****. A lot of it was super hard in part 1. But certain builds made everything but hellhouse less of a pain. But certain stuff got slightly nerfed in rebirth that makes it harder to follow the same builds. it is still doable. But unless you are a gaming guru that is a parry god you pretty much have to find a way to cheese things.
@@zeromagnum2811 Right, the game is absolutely amazing, so imagine my disappointment at this CHEAP fight… and I just had to leave my PS5 on over night because you can’t SAVE before it😭🤡🤡 not that Elena and Rude are difficult, but they have a lot of health and the game already crashed during the Abzu fight who ALSO had ridiculous health. So I’m just over it rn lmaooo and I will not be going through this on hard again. I’ll just wait for Part 3 before I burn myself out.
Take my thumbs up. I beat him on my first attempt following your guide. The start was rough and it seemed like he only reloaded after he hit me but eventually I got him with a few Disorder's. I admit I got lucky because as soon as I Staggered him I got my limit break which took his health down to 25%. Then as soon as his dog came in I summoned Odin and he finished them both of them
My dumb idiot self assessed him, read the yellow text, and then went "oh! He's the same fight as remake! Silly devs." Then immediately launch into the longest dodge game I've ever had to deal with since his reload window was changed up making it super tight as a high risk/high reward strat. At least now I know for my next playthrough. Thanks BlitzZ!
I staggered him with a braver accidentally and tried to figure out how to replicate it, thanks for confirming! with some practice you can almost do it consistently, it's about 50/50 if he will reload after ricochet. Makes phase 1 trivial. also I noticed if you get his health pretty low by phase 2 he will take breaks to try to heal a lot. I used Jump a lot to close the gap quickly for when I'm far away and he starts a move
Valkyrie Bangle is a must as it boosts your defence. I also equipped Enhanced Draconic Ring. I kept dodging and blade-beaming him, using Chakra and Curaga often, and using haste. It's a vicious, long, tough, fight, but because of that it's extremely satisfying finally beating Rufus. Disorder, move I had largely ignored for much of the game, is very effective if you get an opening.
Thank you very much! You said that ATB stagger is a must. Something really funny is that your ATB is maxed each time you stagger Rufus. But it’s good to have it on, just in case :-)
I got this game when it first came out and I made it all the way to this fight. I died so many times I deleted the game. I came back to it today, watched your video and beat it the first try. Fml and thank you 😅
3:58 shout-out to don corneos boyes singing the junon / stars and stripes remix 😆 First time I fought him I was way too defensive done chapter 12 like 9 times now for everyone's dates been experimenting with him too 3 times with red xiii not getting credit for his skywheel date didn't realise your relationship mattered..thought my game was bugged lol
I followed this for the first phase then it came down to the wire and for the second phase, i had them both nearly dead and i was at like 1 hp and them Odin came in clutch with his 9999 damage 😂 Youre doing God's work my man!
My jaw is on the floor in pure disbelief I just beat him after watching your video once. Forever grateful my guy you are some kind of video game expert like woooooow lol.
What actually causes the blade beam / projectiles to proc? I always felt like it was totally random (but obviously isn't) Can you better explain Disorder?
I did ok vs rufus it was the biker boy in nibblhielm (i may have spelt that wrong) that gave me issues but it was the mithral golem on hard mode that made me put down the controller and walk away
Ait just found this by accident and hardly thinking about it. After I tried this did it first try! Simple: Golden Brawler's Gloves + Sleek Saber (ATB + ATB + ATK UP) + Bahamut First phase just fight and stagger so you fill you limit up, once up it bypasses all the BS and goes straight to second scene. Second scene fill one ATB and use ATB boost to summon Bahamut, stall and Bahamut uses his Ultimate almost killing the dog (just couple attacks and one braver done). Now you focus on Rufus's reload stagger and done. This is on Dynamic difficulty, level 46.
In case it helps anyone else, I found dodge square x4 from a distance helped a lot (5th sends cloud flying in and leaders to a counter). Cloud's energy waves generated a nice amount of ATB, can pressure, and sometimes lock Rufus up. Chakra as needed and triple slash any time he uses a named skill. Kills the ability and pressures. Infinity edge once he staggered got him to like 1/3 hp for phase 2. One triple slash and a LB when both were melee range...dead.
Thanks for the guide it helped me a lot, i did it first try😄👍 but now i realized, im not going for the platinum theres ton of high peaks of dificulty here that doesn't make the experience fun. Im still love the game tho 😅 great video thanks
This is the part of the game I started to come to hate the game, bosses from this point on just weren't fun with there overly inflated healthpools and stats and only being able to do any real damage at specific points. Like Rufus in Remake was fine, pain to hit but when you did he took big damage. Here he is a walking tank that is a pain to hit, not fun
What difficulty were you playing on? I’d personally disagree with you. I played on Dynamic and the bosses after this, which are really just Red Dragon and Demon Gate, weren’t too bad. In fact Demon Gate I was surprised how little health it had and how quick it was to beat.
@@RAGEAlanBunI melted through Demon Gate with an enemy skill Yuffie setup lmao. Rufus gave me infinitely more of a headache than anything throughout the entirety of ch 13 so far, but I’m sitting at what I think is the end of ch14 so I guess I’ll see if there’s anything there.
I’m not following your disorder combo. Are you saying to hit him with disorder then use “blade beam”? Is that his ranged evade+attack thing? And what’s triggering the slowdown?
My HP was at 30/4200+ and didn’t have most of the material you have for the fight but I acted quick to give Rufus the last blow with Triple Slash and Infiniti’s End. Never scream/yelled so loud over a boss fight but this was a bitch to get through. Thank you for this video.
The difficulty spike on this fight was so absurd that I thought it was meant to be an unwinnable encounter until I saw the game over screen. And to have to fight him twice in a row with a minion no less. I'm kind of pissed that they don't allow you to access the options menu at this point so that people could turn it to easy mode just for this encounter.
Thank you so much for this. But that move in Rufus phase 1 is a hit or miss for me, so it took me a long time to stagger him lol. I'm incompetent haha. Took me 5 times, but get it eventually and this guide helps so much
This fight took me about six tries --- and for the first five of them, the goal was just to get out of the first phase lol. Even as someone who played Remake, getting the timing right with Rufus here was a real pain. I eventually got there though. I think it's a bit easier once you know his attacks well enough to start predicting when he will reload. I found usually he would do this either after around three ATB attacks, after Guns Akimbo, or after his close-range attack. I could never reliably dodge that annoying point blank move. The most frustrating thing is that how often he uses certain attacks comes down to luck. I found that hitting him after Guns Akimbo was the easiest, but sometimes he would go a long time without doing it. Or sometimes it would feel like the only time he reloaded was after his close-range attack. Ultimately, patience is key. The Item Master materia is really helpful for keeping HP up so you're not necessarily having to heal every time you have enough ATB. I didn't use this disorder trick exactly, but I used kind of a mix of disorder, triple slash, and regular attacks to ultimately stagger him. This guide gave me some really good tips for materia setup though. Personally, I think it was really sadistic of the writers to put a fight like this directly after the fight with Elena and Rude with no break. By the time I reached Rufus, I was already worn down from the exhaustion of the first fight, and so I was more prone to getting frustrated and making mistakes.
All you need is gorgan shield bro. Press square 5x and use gorgan shield, rinse and repeat. No blocking, no evasion, infinite atb and easy no damage. Works for every difficulty aswell.
1:55 See you mention ATB Stagger Material is essential. I look and realise I have never got this once in the game. Must have overlooked it from Chadlynor something… damn it!
I got past him anyway. When I was playing before watching this video, so was not equiped with the best material needed for the solo fight. Didn’t realise you could go to menu when you restart the fight, and switch out the gear. Video helped, got him without too much trouble on my second attempt.
I hit pause and threw my controller the second I seen Rufus. 2 hours into me fighting this guy my wife is in another room pissed off and I am still screaming
Yeah, I've been trying this all day. Doesn't work in the slightest. I can get some hits when he's reloading, but any other time is either immune or countered.
@BltzZ he keeps juggling me before akimbo, so i don't have time. I'm dodging the entire time, but he just launches me regardless, and I'm just scrambling for the very short, very brutal fight
@BltzZ update: i got him. I tried to do what you did, but it didn't work for me, but you did show me how to take my time and not just rolly polly around like i did in crisis core, but the key was using Darkstarto keep my APB up so i could heal and attack. It took a few x-potions and an elixir, but i got him. So thanks for the tips

I beat him just today. I hardly did any of those methods, so I had to do a LOT of dodging.
Prime mode and Disorder are your best friends in this fight
How so? Maybe I just haven’t fooled around with disorder enough, but I don’t see a spectacular use for it- could you educate me
Disorder refunds a lot of ATB while it pressured Rufus. When staggered use Prime mode and go berserk (hold square) then use infinity end when
@@atrea this man know what’s up 🫡
Dude thank God this was the only time I literally threw my controller playing this game.
Dude, thank you for posting this! The setup and strategy was super helpful and I didn’t realize you could get to the menu before lol😂
I slammed my remote into my desk AND ITS RUFUS SHINRA’S FAULT
send him the bill! SQEX TOO!
F RUFUS SHINRA
I AM STUCK 😢😢😢😢😢😢
OMG TYSM FOR THIS VID it took me like 5 million tries to kill rude and elena and i was sooo happy and then this guy shows up
I think the first time I've seen anything about you, it was your Rufus.
Great guide! Beat him on the first try just by watching the equipment section only. Thx bro
Thank you. Almost quit this game with this boss fight. Did it with one try after this guide. 👌
cant wait for all of your In-depth Chrackter builds s and all the Hardmode and VR Guides
I had enemy skill on cloud and used plasma discharge which helped me tremendously in this fight when Rufus would rush at cloud.
Top video, exactly what i was looking for after probably 30 attempts haha i had no idea disorder was that good and never used it tbh, lesson learnt become familiar with ALL abilities
was a nightmare on hardmode, bcz you have to beat corneos dog after that rude and elena and than rufus vs cloud solo where you cant recover mp and you join rufus fight with 0 mp
yeah playing this fight has pretty much made me say screw the plat trophy for this game. some of those mini games were pissing me off as it is. This fight will be bullshit on hard. Not worth it in my opinion.
@@zeromagnum2811 right cause I’m sick of these unfun tanky boss fights
Then as soon as his dog came in I summoned Odin and he finished them both of them
First boss i actually have issues with, cheers for the video!
Thank you for reminding me of the triple-slash strat. I'd forgotten it from last time and was having a heck of a time.
Good on the devs for rewarding players who were paying attention and punishing those of us who fell into the "I can't believe the C&Ped a fight" trap
Struggled for hours before giving up and decided to sleep. Saw your video, and I beat Rufus on the first try! Thank you.
This video is exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. Once I knew I could redo my materia it was 2 tries and done. Thank you!
Fml and thank you 😅
3:58 shout-out to don corneos boyes singing the junon / stars and stripes remix 😆
First time I fought him I was way too defensive done chapter 12 like 9 times now for everyone's dates been experimenting with him too
3 times with red xiii not getting credit for his skywheel date didn't realise your relationship mattered..thought my game was bugged lol
Thank you sooo much! I must have lost to him like 7 times before I finally gave in a went looking for help 😮
What actually causes the blade beam / projectiles to proc? I always felt like it was totally random (but obviously isn't)
Can you better explain Disorder?
I'm not there yet, but I know this will be helpful when the time comes. I'm still working on the Desert Rush mini game
Bruuuuhhhh, thank u for this!!! No telling how many times I died on the A hole. Disorder is a MUST!
Was trying to bear Rufus last night and got owned, played againt his morning and it appears I was on the right track. Thanls for tips!
Thanks so much! Its a horrible fight but with this video was easier and disorder is your best friend!!! It helps a lot to pressure Rofus
This is the first fight i was super pumped when i beat it... being to swap materia in between the turk foght and this one was good to lnow.
Daaaaaamn… that was light work for you
This strat finally worked for me. Thank you.
I did ok vs rufus it was the biker boy in nibblhielm (i may have spelt that wrong) that gave me issues but it was the mithral golem on hard mode that made me put down the controller and walk away
I hear you. The Golem on hard had me wondering if I'm getting too old for video games.
Ait just found this by accident and hardly thinking about it. After I tried this did it first try!
Simple: Golden Brawler's Gloves + Sleek Saber (ATB + ATB + ATK UP) + Bahamut
First phase just fight and stagger so you fill you limit up, once up it bypasses all the BS and goes straight to second scene.
That disorder tip realy helped me, thx
Thank you, I did it with my first try by following your advice
@@annazik166 you crushed it 🙏🏾
In case it helps anyone else, I found dodge square x4 from a distance helped a lot (5th sends cloud flying in and leaders to a counter).
Took me 2 tries, 1st one where I got smacked and 2nd got him easy with this method, thanks man 😅
I DID NOT KNOW YOU CAN CHANGE THE BUFFS FROM THE WEAPONS 💀💀💀💀💀
Wow! Great strategy 👏🏼
This strat worked on Hard mode!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the guide it helped me a lot, i did it first try😄👍 but now i realized, im not going for the platinum theres ton of high peaks of dificulty here that doesn't make the experience fun.
Im still love the game tho 😅 great video thanks
Perfect strategy! Thanks! Beat him in first try after this
I struggled with this fight hahaha.
Same idk how many time I have to restart.
So basically like any other final fantasy
Now you got me excited
What difficulty were you playing on? I’d personally disagree with you. I played on Dynamic and the bosses after this, which are really just Red Dragon and Demon Gate, weren’t too bad.
In fact Demon Gate I was surprised how little health it had and how quick it was to beat.
I like how the first 3 comments just say "skill issue lol"
@@RAGEAlanBunI melted through Demon Gate with an enemy skill Yuffie setup lmao. Rufus gave me infinitely more of a headache than anything throughout the entirety of ch 13 so far, but I’m sitting at what I think is the end of ch14 so I guess I’ll see if there’s anything there.
Thanks for the info. Really helped me with this. Definitely dropping a like for this.
You’re a lifesaver for this, subbed
I’m not following your disorder combo. Are you saying to hit him with disorder then use “blade beam”? Is that his ranged evade+attack thing? And what’s triggering the slowdown?
Dodge then mash square. After 5 hits it triggers a slowdown
thanks dude. needed this.
Beat him second try thanks for the materia loadout!
I used Punisher counter + Focused Strike on the dog, in both games, works great.
This guide helped me a ton omg
Thanks for the video I beat him with your tips and load out 👍🏻
Thank you so much for this. But that move in Rufus phase 1 is a hit or miss for me, so it took me a long time to stagger him lol. I'm incompetent haha. Took me 5 times, but get it eventually and this guide helps so much
Wzup @BltzZ do you have guides for Chocobo Navigation in Gongaga and Cosmo Cayon those are two most irritating areas to navigate with a Chocobo
OMG gongaga is trash. I cleared the map everywhere else but there i got like 4 towers and got tf out
Nothing more fun than spending twenty minutes hopping on the wrong mushrooms then having to navigate back to where you were lol
I was able to beat him on normal, it wasn’t easy, but I’m proud I did it without needing a guide…we’ll see about hard mode tho 😅
This helped me so much. Thank you so much
I was spamming cloud offense slash. And my thumb eventually was starting to hurt so bad. but I beat him on my first try but it took like one hour.
Then you're waiting too long into the reload animation. Wait until he does guns akimbo then go for disorder.
You've helped me a lot, thanks
As a player who beat hard mode on remake I hardly had any trouble on Rufus on normal since most of his attacks are the same from remake.
You can Braver him outside of reload to instant stagger if he's doing a move. Hot pursuit is perfect for that since it's so slow to actually start up.
Braver takes too long, Triple Slash covers a lot of ground fast and is pretty instant.
You mean start braver right when hot pursuit pops up? I'm about to throw my remote through the TV.
I finally beat him thanks to you 🤘
