    I love this video you made.
    As an IT engineer about to move my family to Nanaimo, I've been following Nanaimo's video introductions.
    There are too few introductions about Nanaimo on TH-cam, hope to see more videos on this, thank you.

    Hi Scott, I am rather surprised that you didn't actually mention the OLD CITY quarter and how the south has far more the heritage vibe, feel, etc. As a character-heritage house buff myself....I think the difference between the north and south in this regard is definitely worth noting here.
    Yes, the large, expensive, homes in the north end (or around Hammond Bay Rd, Icarus Dr, etc)....are nice, however, it's the Old City area, that is far more appealing to someone like me.
    In fact, I wouldn't live anywhere else in Nanaimo 😎

      We’re actually going to do something different that’s specific about the historical importance of the downtown core. This will touch on local family names, companies that gave birth to the Nanaimo Coal town, and the amazing estates they built during their reign.
      For now, this is just a quick overview for people that like a simplified explanation of the differences between the north and the south. We talk with thousands of people every year and these are the primary things that they want touched on regarding their initial decision to relocate to Nanaimo.
      The insight in your comments have been amazing and I would love to meet for coffee one of these days. If you’re willing, please connect with us through the links down below!

    south- lots of new high density homes,zero roadwork,or traffic lights,zip for doctors but a number of grocery stores.

    There is a whole section of south Nanaimo that got left out here. South isn’t just downtown. The jobless situation is everywhere. Don’t think North Nanaimo doesn’t have homeless. South has the Westwood area. College Heights. A full blown lake and beach with great trails. No homeless up there.
    All of Nanaimo is great. But the South's about to explode. Big box will open up there and the approved developments are going to change things over the next decade. North has challenges coming. Traffic and aging neighbourhoods are going to tarnish it soon.
    Again, the South isn’t “downtown and Harewood.”

      Hello sir, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to comment. And you are 100% correct that there are more places that are spectacular in the south of Nanaimo. I personally live next to Westwood Lake and moved here from the north of Nanaimo because I like it so much better. Today will be posting another video about it amazing community in the south of Nanaimo, the Cinnabar Valley. Overtime the content will go to show that the sofa Nanaimo is the best choice, especially with a Sandstone project that will be taking place over the next 10 years in the south of Nanaimo. And you’re correct most of the big box stores will be moving close to the turn off to the duke point ferry. But this will be a long time coming given the current economic downturn. Again I greatly appreciate you taking the time to comment and watch my video. Hopefully your subscribe and see the other contact coming soon. Make sure you check out our South Jingle Pot video which highlights College Heights, Westwood Lake, and East Wellington 👍

    Hi Scott, I'll be moving to Nanaimo in October and looking forward to see more of it. I'm gonna be living on Dufferin Crescent. What can you tell me about this neighborhood? I only visited a few days last summer before taking my decision. I like your videos and the music. Thanks

    • @Nanaimore
      @Nanaimore  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a nice quiet street right near the hospital. You’ll be close to shopping, and everything you’ll need. The only problem that I have is Dufferin Crescent is it’s not near any major parks. But it’s central to absolutely everything in the city. To be honest, we would probably call the central Nanaimo.

    Thanks Scott for your video. It was nice to watch it. But dividing Nanaimo by North and South only is a bit of a shortcut. You talk about South being unsafe, no sidewalks and power lines all around and your video is showing Harewood. True with Harewood even though some people live there and love it. But how about all other beautiful and super safe areas like Westwood Lake , College Hights, entire Jingle Pot area, Benson Meadows? It’s safe and definitely not cheaper to buy or rent. Looking forward to seeing your other videos.

      @Nanaimore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Maggie! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I live near Westwood and agree that the Jingle Pot Areas are some of the best neighbourhoods in Nanaimo. We'll start referring to these areas as "West Nanaimo." However, people relocating to Nanaimo primary ask about the differences between North and South, which inspired this video. Check out our South Jingle Pot Neighbourhood Guide if you have a moment. The North Jingle Pot Guide Will be uploaded soon and include the neighbourhoods you mentioned. Again, thank you SO MUCH for leaving a comment!!!

      Harewood is always picked on. Funny thing is there no Harewood and hasn’t been since 1976. The north end has had more than its share of violent crime over the years but it seems that when it occurs there it seems to gets downplayed. The south end is simply older but as time goes on it is getting upgrades and improvements. I have lived in the South end or Harewood as it still gets labelled and NEVER had any problems ever. My friend in the north end by contrast has had his home broke so into several times. Never judge a book by its cover.

      @@Nanaimore Westwood and Jingle Pot up to East Wellington were in fact part of the original Harewood area back in the days when Harewood was it’s own community. That all ended in around 1976 or 77 when all the outlying areas amalgamated into the city.

      Here’s a video on Qualicum Beach: th-cam.com/video/s4UXRnMNm8w/w-d-xo.html
      Parksville and Qualicum are primary retirement communities with very small populations. They’re like small satellites outside of Nanaimo which need to return to the larger population base for shopping, doctors, etc.
      I’ll have another video about Parksville soon but it won’t come out till spring as I want to highlight all the seasons.
