    I currently attend three different clubs and nobody showed the same insight about stepping to the side at an angle instead of hip to hip square with them. I noticed this first when I watched videos of Masahiko Kimura and everyone said it was wrong and just his twist on the technique. I reckon the reason people's thinking is rigid like this is because they only like to think in straight lines. Thank you for being awesome and confirming this.

      osotogari is easier, but can cause severe damage if they hit their head on the ground.

    I had my right leg swept out and it tore the knee cartilage (meniscus) but on my left knee and I couldn't train for 4 months. How come it hurt the opposite leg?

    How do you do the variation of Osoto Gari where both hands are on the left shoulder?

  • @yubukai
    @yubukai 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see lots of variation in the amount of forward swing of the sweeping leg in different tutorial videos. Little mention of it though. This chap has virtually zero forward swing, making it very efficient and fast. Lots of high-ranked judoka show very significant forward swing. There is of course a middle ground but the ends of the spectrum are very different. Thoughts please.

    • @SampsonJudo
      @SampsonJudo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you explain what you mean by ‘forward swing’ I may be able to provide some insight.

    • @yubukai
      @yubukai 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SampsonJudo Hello! Thank you for getting back. I mean the action prior to sweeping back into uke's leg. Some people do a big swing forwards before they swing back to the sweep. Yours is the tightest action I've seen.

    • @SampsonJudo
      @SampsonJudo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@yubukai ahh yes, I understand now. This is very common. However, I do my best to avoid that swing as it telegraphs the technique and gives your opponent time to react. I want my judo to be like a gun going off. Explosive, fast and no chance to avoid the technique.Glad you enjoyed my technique :)

  • @kerem7546
    @kerem7546 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    strange, this is one of the first demonstrations of the technique where uke and tori are not in full contact through their side bodies before and during the sweep. the technique seams to work well, but looks a bit unusual.

    Judo or Jew-do? It's no coincidence Israelis love the sport. Jacob wrestled with God in the wilderness.
