When I first watched this video I thought you were some reviewer I haven't heard of with at least 100k subscribers, but no, I look down and you have about 150 views on this video and nearly 300 subscribers, and with your voice and editing you sound like you should. Now having literal 100s of people who subscribed to you and watch your videos is quite a lot if you think about it, but I still think your channel is like the hidden gem in the darkness, it's something more people should see but since people don't have night vision they don't. That was a stupid comparison, but I still think your videos are great, keep up the great work man.
@@FlexofFunk It's no problem, and I'm glad you appreciate my comment. That's one thing I've always liked about small channels, you always hear about youtubers reading their comments, but you know damn well that they can't see all of them. Smaller channels have the luxury of having a manageable comments section, though lets hope you get some more traction soon so we can see a review on myth 2, eh?
Omg man i am literal playing it all again right now, days before I even knew your channel existed. This was my jam. If anyones old enough maby they played Myth TFL Demo online like i did and got me hooked for RTS ever since.
One of the best games ever! - You gotta complete your mission with what you have, none of that build a base and win through macro bullshit (this is why it's a tactics and not a strategy game). - Very difficult but it's possible to master it and win the game without losing a single unit. - Great story and perfect narration. They really convey how hopeless it seems without overdoing it. - Whenever you think you got a handle on things, the game throws you a curveball with a new enemy type that will annihilate your army if you're not careful. The AI is actually quite good as well, each enemy has their own behaviour and if you're not careful you'll get outflanked and hacked to pieces. - Realistic combat. You can stunlock enemies (or get stunlocked) if you have overwhelming numbers, there's friendly fire, arrows can get stuck in trees. It feels realer than most modern strategy games where you're just watching computer objects substract numbers from each other. - Your guys can get experience if you keep them alive which carries over between levels and you can see how many kills they have gotten during the campaign. - Great villians. They're not just evil monsters but powerful corrupted sorcerers with exploitable weaknesses and rivalries between them. - Unmatched world building and atmosphere. There are so many great little details in the journal entries about the world and the logistics of the war. They don't make games with this type of atmosphere anymore. The only one I've played that comes close is the original Age of Wonders. Someone called it low fantasy; not all heroic and epic but dark and gloomy. I wish we would get more games in this style. I should really force a friend to play through Myth I and II with me lol.
Great points. I especially loved your comparison to number subtracting objects, you nailed that point! I also like the element of randomness, like when it comes to accuracy and sometimes the dwarf bombs end up being duds. Sure, it may feel unfair, but it sure feels a lot more realistic. Besides, a great commander should try to take all these risks into account and plan accordingly.
I encountered this game when I was 9 back in 1998, my brother had a disk with demo's of a couple of games, one of which was Myth the fallen lords. I quickly fell in love with the setting and gameplay. Its quite a unique game
Best game ever, Myth 2 was better. To pass every level without losing a single unit, use the magic of time freeze. Press pause every second heartbeat and control troop movement in micro actions.
I just recently started to play myth for my self, and it is so good. When I was about 8 or 10, only my older brother had a PC and I would watch him playing and I remember almost clearly his playthrough, for some reason I loved the level with the forest ents. Another RTS game that I remember him playing a lot was Dark Colony.
Great review! I was playing Myth 2 as a youngster for hours, but I've never played the Myth TFL. Now I'm correcting this mistake and playing the campaign. Currently I'm trapped in the tain, but I'm determined to get out and kick some fallen ass :D
one of my favorites from BITD. Multiplayer was much more fun than single/campaign. you should search for the dark mod. it lets you play the campaign with dark units and all the enemies are light.
This game came out a year before I was even born, but my dad showed it to me at a young age. Since then, it has been my absolute favorite game, and I see it not only as Bungie's magnum opus, but as a pinnacle of rich storytelling. I was fascinated by this game as a child, and I now work as a videogame concept artist; Nothing comes close to the brilliance of the Myth franchise in my opinion.
at school, qhen I was like 12, my father had a mac and everyone including the school had PC. I had barely any decent game, I had to format diskettes to take asignments to school or friends house, nothing was compatible back then.. But i had Bungie`s Marathon 1 and 2... God knows I played those ones...
the only 3d strategy run on my father old pentium 133 back in 98. and the only strategy game that scared me more than a horror game... and btw your voice is so intense and beautiful you must try to voice news, movies or computer games. Just give it a try and you will see you have a good natural talent!
This was one of my absolute favorite games growing up. If the world grips you, check out the Black Company series of books on which the setting is (loosely) based on. It's fantastic!
Love this game mate. Thinking about making my own guide. Just got it working on my iMac and my brothers computer so we can duel. Wish I knew had to make maps as I’ve had all these ideas for a castle siege multiplayer map
Almost every games Bungie developed before Destiny worth it. Special mention to Myth and Marathon (now Aleph One) in Total Carnage mode, alone or with a friend. Redone it last year and it has its place in the post unreal engine 4 world.
Nostalgia got the me thinking of this beautiful game when I used to play in my days gone pc games era... So happy you talked about it. Also I was shocked to see it was developed by such a famous and well established sw house such as bungie and I didn't know it until I search for the game and came to this your video. Definitely come to your twitch channel to pay you a visit.. I have a question tho: you showed a way to free download and install the game... But also saw it is available on steam.. Is the purchasable version good and does it allow the same resolution for modern screens as you shown for the free version?

Nah sorry mate that was months ago and I don't hold on footage I'm afraid. Might have highlight channel when I stream in future covering all the best parts but until then it'll be running as is
Game doesn't run in widescreen for me any idea whats up? I can set the renderer to OpenGL, which puts the game to left of the screen and leaves the right black, or software, which centers the game but its still the wrong resolution.
No one's gonna read it now but what the hell.. I'm watching it from a grim dark country now with some really bad things hapenning not far from here at the hands of my government. And I get involved into helping some people to escape grim fate.. And I find some psychological rest by watching this review of one of my favorite games from childhood about grim dark world full of hopelessness and despair.. the memory of which game warms my heart like a cosy blanket. I mean, come to think of it- How f*ked up this is.. But the circumstances aside, it's a great game and you've got all the reasons perfectly covered here: classic dark fantasy but solid well delivered story, great gameplay and difficulty.. well you tell it all. And my gaming experience was exactly thevsame: save often, play brilliantly or discoordinate, time badly those slow maneuvers of your forces and watch everything turn to shit. I guess it's always good to enjoy good book, good game; good art. And this game is definitely good art. I have to regretfully say they don't make them as good these days and in this case it really isn't only an old man's rant. Thank's for reviewing it, Mate and best wishes to you.
From my hazy memory, it's like running the levels of myth 1 through myths 2 game. So the features and alterations to characters in myth 2 will apply to the myth 1 characters. I think you need a mod to make them function like how they do in myth 1. But to my knowledge. Yes it does work. The website I show when talking about it is the ones that helped me figure that out
