@TaklyntheWorld congratulations! I am so happy for you guys. I look forward to your content of travel and home ownership. I was not able to add a comment without replying to existing comment. ? I have been subscriber for many years. I have never missed a video. ❤ to you both!
One of the first things to do is water proof your structure. Clear at least 50 feet of brush around the structures. Get at least a 10,000 gallon water tank with an intensive sprinkler system to douse the structures if needed. Solar power would be nice too. Great property with so much potential. Should be a wonderful project for two like-minded partners. Congratulations.
wasp traps, 2 liter pop bottle cut off 1/3 invert stick it upside down in bottom , drill holes around edges to hang, bai should be sugar vinegar and something nasty, fish meat or fish oil. try that. gets flies and wasps
Builder guy here Looks to me those holes were once larger post that were replaced probably due to past dry rot or bug damage. That is not a building thing to leave holes. Direct contact of untreated wood to concrete/ground is a nono and causes premature rot. Probably was once a open pole building then added cement floor later then rotted out then replaced. To fix this right you can plug bottom hole with plywood add dowls (little pins like nails to keep new concret from shifting) in exsisting conrete edges and fill in with cement. Looks fun congrats
Cheers to you beautiful couple. My wife and I love watching your videos and we also just got our first house. The best of wishes to you both on your new journey.
If you take your wire fence, 6-10 ft and install in at an angle, 45° or so, the deer won't jump over it. Although they can jump high, they can't jump long. The farmers in South Carolina all build their fences at an angle to prevent deer from coming into their gardens.
2024 Taku you were saying during your solo 48 hour venture that both you and Jocelyn didn't have a home address. Bravo now you do. Good for you Taku'n' Jocelyn cherish love forever. Bless you❤😊
Whoot whoot!! Congratulations..you're life is just beginning. So excited to live vicariously through you guys as we have already been on that journey and what a journey it was....and still is. have fun and enjoy the moments because it goes by way too fast.
Congrats guys! I remember when I first watched Taku’s first foraging video and now you guys bought land and a house - amazing how far you’ve come! Really happy for you guys!
Get at least 3-4 big fire extinguisher. Get a big blue barrel or a way to collect rain water minimum a couple barrels would be perfect. Let them fill up with the rain water and overflow... and get a long hose. 100+ feets the longest the better. Did you know if you put one side of the hose in the barel full of water for example and snap the hose like when we were kids we would squeeze the hose snap it shut so the water would stop comming out of the hose... doing that with one side of the hose in a barel will create suction and pressure it will start emptying the barrel and the water will come out just like a normal house water hose... It's an easy way to prime and get water to where is needed.
Once you have scraped the entire wasp nest off from the structure place a few drops of peppermint oil on the area. It will take a couple of years to fully rid of the wasps. Check your entire structures for nests, this includes trees. Nests are commonly found under the roof overhangs and nearby trees. Mostly leafy trees, not pine, evergreen or spruce. I live in Alaska and this is what I experienced. You have a great place there! Will be a beautiful oasis one day very soon!
Congratulations to you both!! Lots of projects to get going on. Well one item would be fire wood, winter will show up all on it's own ready or not. The transformation of he home sweet home is going to wonderful to watch- enjoy the process and even the goof ups - as is life. Bats are great - make a bat box like a bird house but for bats.
Congrats, to both of you. The deer can’t jump over a 8ft fence so for you garden that the Ht. In regards to the holes in the garage, you could put MESH screen, you don’t want to cover. It’s design tol allow some expan and retract for the heat and snow.
Congratulations on the new house and property. As for Deer and your garden, you can invest in an enclosed chain link set up where it encloses the area you want for your garden and is tall, and covered even over the top to keep out all animal trespassers. :D It will be expensive, but with budgeting, and planning, you can do it, and your garden will be secure. :D
Beautiful. Congratulations, when you finally decide to settle down and just make content from home get yourself 2 big ranch dogs that are bred to protect the homestead they will keep away deer, bears, mountain lions, bobcats, raccoons and the like. Good luck, we look forward to seeing you grow the property.
Congrats! It's going to be amazing! Hope you get a lot of content out of it too. No more van build, now it's house build, garage build, garden build, farm build etc. 👏👏👏
Congratulations to you guys 🎉. Just a suggestion through experience. Try growing your garden inside a chain link fencing fully enclosed even the top so jumping over the fencing won't be a option. Also what is the condition of the water table on your property 🤔. You would hate to spend all that money drilling a well and have it dry up in a few years. It happens. Depending on the rain you get to help replenish it. I'm on 4 acres with a river that runs through the property. The rains we had recharged the water table but the rivers width grew about 8 to 10 feet. Getting little close to one of the shed where I park the cars. Once again congratulations and have fun with the never ending things you have to do when you buy a property like this 👍. Also invest in a Tracker. It will come in handy and make brush clearance and other thing alot easier...
All around I would scan square feet by square feet to make shure I cut down dead trees, everything that is dead and not just dormant in the winter season, all dead trees have to go and be cutted down. I would get some sands just in case and it's always useful. And for spiders and small stuff you don't want to be crawling around buy some mint tea bags and put them under the bed and in places where you don't want spiders around or places where a spider can go to get to you... it's an old trick I used in spider land where I was living each summer in a spider infested shack and after using mint tea bags not only a spider never crawled back in my bed but I never saw spiders again around. Sharing some knowledge tested and proved to work you guys do so much for us.
You guys have come a long way, congratulations!!!! 🎉. My husband and I caught on to your videos during pandemic and have been watching since. What a journey for you both. Again, congrats. Keep the love going. ❤🎉
Congratulations!!! 🎉🍾 Nice place and hopefully everything goes as you guys plan to do. Would love to visit when the house and everything is ready. Housewarming party!!!!
Congratulations!! I'm sure you have figured it out...but those "stingy" bugs need to be combated at night. By the evening their energy drops because of the lower temps.
Congratulations. I'm so excited for you both. I can't wait to see all your new adventures as home owners. Really I'm sitting here looking for more. It's going to be beautiful. Wishing you both the very best. Lisa
Congratulations!! It’s always nice to have a home base you can come back to after traveling. Looks like a beautiful place to be! Can’t wait to see what you do with the place 😊
Congratulations on purchasing your new home and to all the potential the place has in store for you. Two names that came to mind in terms of homesteading and permaculture design are Justin Rhodes and Andrew Millison. Wasps can actually be beneficial to your garden as they keep garden pest pressure down. I found that out while talking to some people from the San Mateo County Park and Wildlife department.
If I had to guess, in your garage, the concrete floor was poured after the garage was built. They left those pockets to keep from going up against the untreated wood, so it wouldn't rot.
It's almost impossible to 100% rat/mouse proof when you're out in the middle of the woods, but hardware cloth set in expanding spray foam is a pretty decent easy fix for awkward spots. Get the smallest mesh you can; the general estimate is any hole that's dime-sized or larger. And mice & rats can both climb, so don't ignore the roof & eaves!
Congratulations to you both! I’m glad you guys have a physical place to call home between road trips. Jocelyn, you may need to build an enclosure with wall to ceiling chicken wire for the bulk of your garden…to keep the deer and critters out. If not, they will eat everything. I can’t wait to see your garden next year.😊
This is awesome! Must feel great to have found a really nice spot to spread out and make your own. Cant wait to see the progress over the years. Congratulations!
I’m so excited to see your new chapter in life with your new house! Both of you have shown what you guys do together to accomplish something and I’m excited to see the new things you guys come up with. Congratulations to both of you.🎉
wow! i dont know anything about wells! so interesting! you may need water catchment and also reserve of water! congratulations for this new creative phase of home owning! i cant wait to see your plans!
Good luck guys looking forward to the change in content. Not that I don’t love it already. But seeing a small holding in California is gonna be very cool.
Congrats on the big purchase guys! For the fire situation, maybe you can install sprinklers for a couple acres on the surrounding perimeter of your property and have it go off when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees or so? Just as a safety net in case there’s a blaze when no one is home or sudden emergencies. Just a thought
It’s a lotta work but we’ll worth it. I have been watching your adventures and travels and have wondered if the both of you are married or just a great couple. You both complement one another and it’s really uplifting to experience the many challenges that you share with us. May GOD continue to watch over and protect the both of you. 🙏
Congratulations!!! Looking forward to see this project! This video reminds of the abandoned homes in japan countryside that foreigners remodel!!! So cool

Well wishers are pretty spot on ,but you have to find a true well wisher ,it's 15 k to drill a well up here on the Oregon/California border ,coastal border of course. 🎣 💪
Just wanted to say congratulations to you both! Another milestone! Exciting times ahead. looking forward to your homes progress! Warm regards, watching from the Philippines!

outdoor full kitchen is a great idea.. especially if you videoing

I noticed that the land has a steep slope, and the garage may be susceptible to washout.

Nice guys! Might want to use heavy metal mesh to block rat holes in garage. Seems like water needs to drain sometime.
Pro tip: mix dawn 1/8 dish soap to water, put mixture in a spray bottle, spray the wasps. This works just as good as store bought spray.
