California gardener here…..screen the base of your raised beds!!! If you think the wasps are bad, wait until a mole takes down all of your peppers! If you don’t do this in the beginning, it’s a real pain to retrofit. Best of luck.
Ahh you should have left the indoor-outdoor garden beds. When it rains you feed the indoor side. If you compost and add it outside you feed the inside green house garden bed without having to keep swapping soil. It's like a small, closed loop system.
My only suggestion is aquaponics more specifically a constant height one pump (CHOP) system sounds like it would fit your needs as far as growing plants and fish. 🤙🏽congratulations on the purchase btw 🤙🏽

I used to have a Bat show up occasionally, I always had my Butterfly net ready😁! Dang Varmints 🤣. Try hanging prayer flags where they come in , the motion scares them. I've seen them work , it's worth the try! ❤🙏 for your new home🎉. JO JO IN VT 💞
The greenhouse looks great!!! I know it was a lot of work for such a small space, but you guys made it look easy. As for the deer, you’ll need to protect your plants with taller fencing, metal fencing or chicken wire, or they’ll be back, and with many friends. It’s hard enough protecting your fruits & veggies from the other critters. 🦝🐿️🐀🐦⬛ Looking forward to seeing you guys get settled in your new home. Lots to do, but take your time so you guys don’t burn yourselves out between fishing trips & home renovations. And, Jocelyn, your hutch turned out beautifully. I love the hue of green you chose.❤️
Congrats on the house! I would love to see you guys have a smoke house on the property for your salmon or a huge grill with the crank lever. I'm just thinking of you guys catching and cooking.
You can definitely grow a Papaya tree in a green house. I grew one in my house. It remained a midget tree but grew just fine. I live in Central Valley, where we get extreme heat or extreme cold. Good luck! Can't wait to see your garden flourish!
It been very enjoyable watching you guys do house projects! The greenhouse looks good! Joslyn I’m excited for you with your planting ideas! Can’t wait for more homesteading videos! Thanks for sharing 😊
Great property and starting a enclosed garden is the best idea Joslyn, I would've started one too. Growing while cleaning up and doing other projects will give you food first. Great job Taku on the reenforcement of the rotten woods. ❤❤❤
Thumb up 👍. Although progress takes time if someone has a green finger that will be YOU. Eventually, the rainbow's end is a pot of gold it will turn out to be a lovely greenhouse. Love to see your update.
Just do hoop house greenhouse, If your planning to plant tropical trees. Plant them in the ground in the spring once it warms up and when it starts getting cold just set up a hoop house for each tree, that way you’ll be able to adjust each hoop house to the size of the trees, instead of building a permanent structure. My grandma grows guava trees and in a hoop house, takes off the plastic liner in the summer and puts it back on once it’s starts getting cold and she gets amazing harvest and size. Also one of my cousin grows papayas the same way.
Omg I love that you guys are sharing this part. I think what you did with the repairs are awesome 👍 congratulations, you guys will be happy with your investment 😊
I saw a snippet of the garden on outdoor chef life and i was so impressed at what Jocelyn and Taku both did with it. Its absolutely amazing!!! Cant wait to see it grow and blossom. Soo excited 🎉🎉
Love your place✨🌺 congratulations..... Opened so many new doors for new videos 😊 yeahh.... Thank you. Excited to watch it all grow into your beautiful fruition ✨Enjoy🌲
I live in Stockton, CA, where I have a few mango trees thriving in my garden. Initially, I started them in a greenhouse, but they've since transitioned to the outdoors. I'm working on getting them acclimated to the local climate so I won't need to bring them indoors during the winter. My oldest tree, which is about six years old, now stays outside year-round. All of my trees were grown from mango seeds we've enjoyed, and they tend to flower as the weather warms up. However, they often lose their fruit once temperatures exceed 100ºF. To improve their resilience, I’m planning to experiment with growing them in shaded areas versus direct sunlight. I also believe that maintaining high humidity in the greenhouse could further support their growth. I also have a banana tree planted in my front yard that I got from my cousin. They have about 10 plants that fruit about 3x per year. Happy planting!!!
Congratulations on the new ranch! I suggest rain gutters drain to rain barrels to use for garden water, buy and spread mushroom grain spawn around the property and inoculate the oak trees with plugs, do not use pressure treated wood in gardens you plan to eat the food toxic cancer causing chemicals can leach from the wood into the soil. Definitely start hunting, venison is excellent but get your license and check the regulations first. You can’t shoot near your house. Best of luck!
I suggest taking a torch the new wood you installed. Just scorch them black a bit, it will help protect them from the elements and termites. Its better to do before installing them though.

Dang, seriously, this is amazing! I LOVE you showing us the work from beginning to end. That green house is beautiful. The prior owners did so much to that property that you can work with and build on. Thank you for letting us watch the improvements. It's going to absolutely gorgeous.
So excited for you guys! If noone has recommended it yet- Dawn dish soap and water works really well for spraying ground hornets and wasp nest. Also, you can put peppermint oil on cotton balls and place them where you find mouse droppings to drive the mice away without having to kill them. Hope this helps!
found yahz. it would be need to see a rain harvest project, ( if it's warm enough to do above ground tank there ), and some type of solar food drying ( as an alternative to refrigeration )
Taku and Jocelyn, congratulations on your new property, have been a fan for years. You've asked for suggestions on new content creation ideas and I've got a few. Since you are mushroom lovers, I would highly suggest "seeding" mushroom culture around your property. Need to evaluate the types of trees you have and the mushrooms that are compatible with them. There's tons of channels on TH-cam that you can view to learn. I'd also reach out to local mycologist TH-camrs to collaborate. You are in a perfect part of the country to successfully do this. Could also become a successful source of income also selling to local restaurants/markets. Secondly, I'd consider building some bunking buildings that you could use to invite other TH-camrs to collaborate to your area, instead of you constantly traveling to other's areas. That way you can balance the two and have somewhat of a stable home life, maybe even offering to have a couple (apprentices) on property to watch the place for you while you're gone. Note Off Grid with Jake and Nicole did this recently quite successfully (they now have 2 properties in British Columbia and somewhere in the tropics. They have a TH-cam couple from Germany minding their property in BC. Also, check out Good Simple Living (Last 3 weeks) for natural ways to eliminate wasps/hornets from you property.
So exciting! 🏡 looking forward to all the new property videos! Side note I noticed the Sound has been kind of inconsistent and muffled often, not sure if you’ve got new mics or new cameras but thought I’d mention it. 😅 much love guys!!
Amazon magnetic screen door around $30. Glue/double side tapes to frame and Velcro to frame and walk through. Lasts a good 2 years and magnets keep closed when and after walk through- Love seeing the updates!

The jump height of the average deer has been consistently and scientifically measured to be [however tall your fence is +1 ] feet
I seen a deer clear a 10ft high fence in a blue berry orchard lmao
i say 12ft. would be best..
Yes, that is truth. And elk don't care about fences, they just walk through them.

Eventually, you should pay for a commercial greenhouse to be built on your land. It will be worth the investment. The current greenhouse you have may be too small for fruit trees, perhaps bananas would be okay, but mangoes and papayas can get quite tall, so the upkeep may not be worth it in the greenhouse you currently have.
