    My only question is regarding string recommendations for a rybobi?
    At the hardware store I saw various options : different sizes, commercial vs residential, etc
    I went with a ‘residential’ string since I didn’t know which to buy … if it gives poor results I’ll increase the strings durability

    • @FieldGuidetoDIY
      @FieldGuidetoDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so glad it helped. I just use standard residential string. Any coarser and I'm afraid it would be too rigid to properly eject from the spool.

    Wish that worked for me. The string inside my trimmer was broken on the inside, there was about 8 feet of string left around the spool. I could not thread the new string into the spool. On mine the spool refused to unlock, I ended up putting the whole works in a vise and then I struggled mightily to unlock the mechanism. Finally it did come loose but it was a real pain in the neck. Then the next problem was reassembling the mechanism. There must be something wrong with mine because it just would not go back together! I do not agree that ryobi made this to be simple.

      Wow, thanks for the response. I didn't anticipate that. As it turns out, I went back to the video where you took the entire housing apart. I have no idea how I mustered the strength to disassemble it, but I did. It was a struggle. There was leftover string blocking it. Of course, once I had it disassembled, I was left with putting it back together, which also seemed absolutely impossible. However, after at least an hour or more of struggling to push it together and turn it, I ended up finding comments recommending some WD-40, once I had it lubed up, it was just a matter of minutes before the housing was reassembled properly. What a nightmare it was. But I'm happy to say that I lived through it 🤣 Pretty sure I'm going to have sore shoulders and hands tomorrow from the intense struggle I was in all evening 🥴

      @FieldGuidetoDIY Thanks! Sorry, I was getting hot and frustrated and felt like every video I found showed the quick way. I've avoided trimmers for years because I hated the string issues I had in the past. Finally bit the bullet and bought one thinking surely they've improved them by now. I was able to get it after watching one of your other videos where you quickly took it off but I watched closely as you put it back on. I tore up my hands doing it but eventually got it. This video is definitely helpful.

      It may be the curl/curve in the string. Leave it in the sun for 20-30 min or warm it with a blow dryer to straighten it.

      @@FieldGuidetoDIY No damage. It doesn't feed in correctly when I turn the winder, even if i hold the string taunt while winding. And I was using the .95 gauge string that came with the unit new.

    I've owned this trimmer for about two years and it sucks. The plastic guard broke, I can't find a replacement and replacing the plastic string takes way too long and despite what this guy say, it's designed by someone who has never used a weed trimmer. I'm never buying a Ryobi tool of any kind again.

    VIDEO is too complex and incorrect: Simply cut 16' of line and run it thru the holes and twist/wind on spool. Take NOTHING apart. 20 seconds.

      Jim, thanks so much for sharing. I don’t know if that method would work if that channel with the head was clogged with debris or dirt. I also don’t know if that would work if the line was over-wound and no longer sticking out the holes. I imagine not. Thanks again for sharing! You da best!
