    Nice video Mike! I like how your shop fairies were helping you. My shop fairy is 14 now and too cool to sweep up the shop any more. Oh well, it's fun while it lasts.

    Nice birds and cute kids! I think I'll make some of these for my craft shows--birds, not kids! Keep those videos coming, they are inspiring.

    WARNING:
    I love to see youth involved in projects. Good for you. When I turn in my Home shop over the years have turned from helpers to doers. Fifteen years ago my youngest granddaughter received her own safety face mask, just like mine, at age 4 and decorated it with stickers along with here Home Depot kids apron,. She was the shop Official shop system engineer. A friend gave me a small Sears shop vac for her and it too became covered in stickers . She also received from Santa a Girls (pink) tool kit. I got her her own 10x24 Jet that I reconditioned and added a remote Stop switch. She has been turning pens since. Now she has passed her lathe and vac over to her brother she wants my lathe and keeps trying to get me to buy the American Beauty..

    Great wee project Mike, might have a go at that being as you said a novice should be able to manage it 😜. Great to see the wee'uns helping out the oldies, great memories for them and you. Safe turnings Mike from Northern Ireland 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Excellent demo, quickly conveyed. The skills of the turner very much enhanced by the excellence of the videographer, come occasional narrator, and, of course, the sweeper. A total of two shop fairies?

      Thanks! I guess they will be forever my shop fairies even though sweeping the shop isn't the same attraction it was once!

      Mike Peace Woodturning well something in the two foot range. Not necessarily a bird. Have been studying Barbara Dell's work lately and is offering some inspiration

      I had a great time at one of her workshops here in Atlanta. She has a great way of conceptualizing the multi axis process.

      Just a thought but if turning one two foot tall, consider turning the head separately and drill a hole to join it to the neck. It would make the turning less off balance. See my videos on birds of a feather for an example with a beak.

    Cool little project, Mike! I'm new to turning and haven't tried any off-center projects yet. This looks like a good one to get my feet wet, so to speak. Quack! Quack! (I have that same big, yellow dustpan and love it. Makes sweeping up shavings a lot easier than with regular dustpans.)

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is a good one. Cheaper at HD than Walmart as I recall.

      I bought mine on Amazon a couple of months ago. It was about $28. I just checked, and it's down to about $22 now. I don't mind. It has made clean-up a lot easier.

    Nice one Mike. a simple fun project. Yet another project that the round nose tool with the micro bevel could have been put to good use. Cutting the cove for the lower body and the feet. The round nose tool would have scooped it out, working both sides of the cut. No need to go for that smaller gouge to avoid a catch.

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I just need to leave my cove tool out and handy to remind me to use it more often. I put it away and just don't think about it.

    Hi, Mike.
    As a long-time woodworker who is recently hooked on turning, I enjoy watching and learning from your video channel.
    I watched one of your videos about the various ways to mount a piece on the lathe, what to do if it doesn't quite fit the jaws you have on hand, creative methods for chucking, etc.
    But now I can't find it anywhere.
    Do you remember it?
    Thanks,
    Rick.

    What is the advantage of using this method of doing the offset as opposed to two 10mm offset centers? Nice shop crew by the way.

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keeps the legs centered but tilts the body, I guess. I don't play with off axis- multi axis that much so can't explain it very well.

    Please lose the big watch Mike. You play safe by not touching the piece while it is still. 🤔

      Perhaps you did not read my earlier reply. It is a Samsung smart watch that can detect a fall and request help, similar to an Apple watch. I had a cousin who was wearing one when she had a cycling accident. It called her an ambulance. Your shop your rules. My shop, my safety practices.
