I'm not avoiding the AF test and comparison. I had a camera for literally 24 hours. Just not enough time to shoot everything everyone might want to see. I did my best and my honest take on this camera. I review cameras and lenses for a living and I use Sony/Nikon/Lumix/Fuji/Canon and others on regular basis. This, in my opinion, and in the short time I've been using it, stood out instantly to me. This new predictive algorithm works. It learns and adapts in front of your eyes. I was walking with someone and we were casting long shadows in front of us. X-M5 learnt in a split of a second that these were human silhouettes and tried finding eyes, settled for heads in an instance. I have never seen this before with any camera. I had zero and I mean zero problem focusing on anything while taking photos, subject detection is way above average here and instantly noticeable performance improvement to any Fuji I have used before. I've only managed to get few video shots with it (all in my video) and it worked really well for me with the 16-50mm lens. I had a camera on loan from Fuji Poland while staying in Warsaw and I live in UK. I've asked Fuji UK for a one day loan of the camera so I can film AF tests for all of you but they've put me at the end of the waiting queue for it. I'll do the follow up ASAP. both and yes AF-C is very good. Very fast and sticky. It uses the learning/predictive algorithm. You can see it working, it detects a person or animal in an instant, puts a box around them and split second after starts looking for eyes. When it finds them, it tracks very well. I was very surprised with it
Thanks….@@PavSZ do you maybe plan (or have the possibility) to make a more specific video focused on AF (if possible with quick comparison to Sony? And it’s a topic that interests Fuji shooters a lot, given the lastest AF issues
i have beein into photography since 2006, have used canon 30D, 40D, 50D, 5Ds but now after all these years, I feel like going back to basics with something portable and less complicated, my photography style has evolved and changed, also I am away from commercial stuff, would you suggest this ain't baby? also can the old canon EF lenses be used with this like with a convertor etc?
This is a very capable camera. I'n not sure if you can adapt Canon EF lenses to Fuji-X mount. You should check out Canon R10 and R7. In the same price range and you definitely can adapt EF lenses to RF mount
it is possible to get too hot when taking photos too. Most likely when shooting in direct sunlight in a hot climate. Ulanzi make a cheaper cooling fan as well
i have a question about the overheating. I live in australia so it does get quite hot but not really humid and I am torn between the xs20 and the xm5. The xm5 is basically a mini version of the xs20 and I don't really care about the evf or the lcd as this will be my first cam and those features are not as important to me personally. However when i checked online there have been alot of people going on about xs20's overheating issue so I was wondering if the overheating was worse with the xm5 due to it's size. The price range for both is fine but would you reccomend me stepping up and buying the xs20 for the battery life or the xm5 for its convenience and lower price for just daily use, holidays, and family time.
also i do want to get a hand held gimbal like the zhiyun crane m3s which is already compatible with the xs20 but I dont know if ill be able to find a gimbal compatible with it
I don't think there will be huge difference between X-S20 and X-M5 when it comes to overheating. The Fuji or Ulanzi fan will cool it down but they both might struggle in direct sunlight for long time. Saying that, cameras with active cooling build in would most likely struggle too. A little bit of common sense and either of them would be OK. I'd definitely invest in the cooling fan though
how is the low light performance? I have a g9 but need a dedicated low light camera and this is the best price for a small form camera, I just need to know it would be better
Nice review! Just a small comment, sir: next time, when doing a camera review, please include more shots filmed by the camera and fewer talking-head shots. You could use voice-over for those scenes, but more footage or photos from the camera would be better. Also, if possible, a comparison between this camera and the Sony ZV-E10M2 would be great.
I had this camera for 24 hours. There is just not enough time to shoot enough samples or do comparisons sometimes. I had to take it out, use it and record my opinion. This is it. Sorry

You’ve got us hyped, inspired, and ready to shoot like legends. Much love, much respect-rock on, my dude!
I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to camera world. I wish to shoot short films. What camera among Fuji XM5 and Sony ZV-E10 i/ii should I consider buying that is going to serve best my purpose? Also, if there's a better camera which suits my needs.. do tell.
Thank you for this thorough first impression. Would you recommend the new 16-55 lens over the sigma 18-50? I like the sigma’s price! I have the old kit lens 18-50, which I find bulky and have never clicked with the image quality. I know it comes down to the photographer, not the gear. Appreciate any insights you can share!
I think they both are great lenses. This new 16-50 has really impressed me but I never had issues with the 18-55 before. Sigma is cheaper and it really delivers good results
I owned a x100v and loved it. This seems like a nice camera at a good price. However this is a little misleading as he’s using a £600 lens and not the kit lens. So if you want that setup, the price is closer to the x100v or vi
Brilliant pictures. Punchy and sharp. Love to get one. But again what is the point - this camera will go into a waitlist mode for 6 months pretty much upon launch.
there is no need to be sarcastic. There might be a AF test video soon when I get the camera again. I use Sony/Nikon/Fuji/Lumix daily and in my experience AF this camera offers is above average.
This is a great camera for indie filmmakers. Buy a gimbal, a couple of good primes, and you're ready to go. I'm really loving how video-centric this camera is. I've definitely shot short films on much worse cameras and the mediocre auto focus is a non issue as filmmakers should be manually focusing anyway.
Once again so few people who own the x100 Fuji's have a clue on their only real unique feature. The leaf shutter allows a high speed sync that doesn't suck, allowing on or off camera flash in broad daylight. You can do a lot of cool things with the camera, that no other Fuji can do, but if you don't use the feature, you're wasting your money.
that's exactly my point. Amazing feature but 99 out of 100 people buy x100 for "Fuji Looks" and don't have a slightest clue about the amazing specs. This is so much better for those people
No leaf shutter, hence so high speed flash sync. No EVF. No OVF. So not really the same. If these don't matter to you, then no issue. It just depends what you want from a camera whether or not it is "better."

@ Thank you for your lengthy reply. I’ll take your word as it is. Yea, I know ppl including me are sensitive. I look forward for your following AF video. Have a nice day.
There is NO fuji that is up to Sony AF-C standards, X-M5 included, no matter what some guy with an early copy provided for positive press for Fuji says =) And no, I'm not a Sony shooter, I'm a very experienced Fuji shooter that knows what they can do and what they can't do. The fact that he said in the comments he won't make a head to head test video to demonstrate his claims tells you everything.
I do use Sony as well as Fuji and I could tell the difference that this works well. I only had a camera for a short period of time so I can't do that comparison test right now until I get my hands on it again. Oh and I had the final production version, not pre-release one
NO viewfinder! Just like the very capable and _weather resistant_ camera you _already_ have in your pocket every single day - and that one happens to do a million other things too!
@@PavSZ No need. Most have three lenses built-in already, which can handle plenty of different situations from very wide to telephoto. _Any_ camera without a viewfinder is going to be limited what it can do. No need really to go nuts buying a bunch of lenses for a viewfinder-less camera. If you want to change a lot of lenses, buy a _real_ camera. You know, one _with_ a viewfinder!

this is hardly a point and shoot camera. This has got every single function my full frame pro cameras have .... build is different but that's a different story
Canon R8 is double the price + very expensive Canon lenses on top. Also it is a full frame camera in a totally different class than this. If you really need to compare to Canon, than this is in the same price bracket as Canon R10. R10 has got viewfinder but lacks everything else, especially when it comes to video specs in comparison to this Fuji
2 หลายเดือนก่อน
@PavSZ R8 is not double the price. With kit lens Canon is $1399 and Fuji is $899. Of course R8 is more expensive because it is Canon, it is full frame and it has Canons color science, electronic viewfinder and dual pixel af. What I’m trying to say is Fuji is not cheap enough in this comparison, despite having some advantages in vlog field.
I'm sorry, it's a good review, but I'll have to give it a thumbs down. In the very title you state it's better than the x100VI, so I was expecting a comparison, but there was less than 10 seconds of a very superficial comment on the differences between these two cameras.

I never made them for use on a mobile phone but they should work on Lightroom mobile anyway. Lightroom mobile uses the same presets format.
I think this video explains how to do it: th-cam.com/video/BOLl3A30YbI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZfPRCKgKgPp6KtRl
Let me know. Please message me privately on insta.
What's your opinion on this vs a x-t50?
Might be a nice alternative to the Ricoh GR series as well.
it is a better camera overall
Only question I have is on Auto focus, in comparison to Sony A series. it can make or break the deal. Pls elaborate....
Thanks!!
in my opinion this is better than my a7IV
"Top notch autofocus"
Did you test the X-M5 in autofocus continuous or autofocus Single?
Did the autofocus continous give you the feeling that it is as good as Sony?
both and yes AF-C is very good.
I just ask, because if you still have the camera now, it probably would be with final production firmware at this point, and you could be the first to really show us a comparison Sony vs X-M5. And it’s a topic that interests Fuji shooters a lot, given the lastest AF issues
@@FujiRumorsOfficial I only had a camera for 24 hours but I'm working on getting it again asap.
@@PavSZ thanks… I hope you are right with your impressions about the AF
Very nice review! I have one on preorder..... unfortunately, there seems to be quite a wait for the black model.
Stunning looking camera. Might get this for my girl since this does not make sense for my setup (X-H2s A/ X-S20 B).
It is really nice little camera
i have beein into photography since 2006, have used canon 30D, 40D, 50D, 5Ds but now after all these years, I feel like going back to basics with something portable and less complicated, my photography style has evolved and changed, also I am away from commercial stuff, would you suggest this ain't baby? also can the old canon EF lenses be used with this like with a convertor etc?
This is a very capable camera. I'n not sure if you can adapt Canon EF lenses to Fuji-X mount.
You should check out Canon R10 and R7. In the same price range and you definitely can adapt EF lenses to RF mount
Can you charge it using power bank? And can it be used while being charged/powered by power bank?
for how long do you use it before it gets hot? are there possibilities for it being hot as well when you just take photos?
it is possible to get too hot when taking photos too. Most likely when shooting in direct sunlight in a hot climate.
Ulanzi make a cheaper cooling fan as well
@@PavSZ ohh i see thanks for responding! :)
Thanks for the video! Considering this with the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. Seems like a nice clean setup for edc, street and vacation.
i have a question about the overheating.
Nice, does it record RAW to memory card or only externally? It is also 10 bit video?
no camera in this price range can record RAW video internally.
This camera can only output RAW over HDMI to be recorded externally.
10 bit
how is the low light performance?
This is it. Sorry
@@PavSZ I can understand, dear sir. It was a good review as a said. No need to apologize. Thank you too.
OH HECK YEAH! My man, my dude, my rockin' sensei of the Fujifilm X-M5-you just blew my mind! 🤯🤘 This video was like a power chord of pure knowledge and camera wizardry.
I'm Max, and I am here to say THANK YOU, my friend! You didn't just talk specs-you unleashed the beast that is the X-M5! The colors, the details, the sweet, sweet autofocus-you showed me every crispy detail, like a backstage pass to camera glory! 🎸📸
Keep shredding those reviews, my brother in camera arms! You’ve got us hyped, inspired, and ready to shoot like legends. Much love, much respect-rock on, my dude!
WOW! That's like the best comment I have ever had.
Thank you so much, very kind of you
I'm thinking of getting this as a travel camera instead of my big, heavy Sony a7IV.
does it have minimum shutter in auto ISO option?
I'm not sure. I never seen shutter limited in any camera by Auto ISO but then I only shoot everything in manual
@ sony latest cameras has it
@ which ones?
1:26 Where is this mural located?
Warszawa, Praga
I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to camera world. I wish to shoot short films. What camera among Fuji XM5 and Sony ZV-E10 i/ii should I consider buying that is going to serve best my purpose? Also, if there's a better camera which suits my needs.. do tell.
I have no idea what your needs are. You are asking wrong questions
There are dedicated functions for short film and vertical filming with the XM5, and is fairly intuitive to figure out.
Awaiting the IBIS version - guess 2 years away - this way more interesting than the X100 too me 😎👍
I like it more, even without ibis
Any changes vs x-s20 apart from body build?
auto focus. Insanely good
Nice video man ! Thinking about this to replace my old XF-10 !!! Think I'm gonna do it.
thanks!
It is a very cool little camera
they count the acros and monochrome with green, red, and yellow filter as part of the 20 film sims
yes, I got that in the end 😂 inflating the numbers a little
Thank you for this thorough first impression.
So if you want that setup, the price is closer to the x100v or vi
he has done auto focus tests with the kit lens in another video. It also worked great
Did you added color grading to the all the images which shown in this video?
All were edited in Lightroom. 80% of them have added Fuji looks from the camera and the rest my own presets
You said 1.8x crop for 4k 60p, is that real? i thought about 1.18x.
you right. I said it wrong as I've made a typo mistake in my notes! oops. Sorry
1.18 x 4k60p crop and 1.3 with stabilisation
Brilliant pictures. Punchy and sharp. Love to get one. But again what is the point - this camera will go into a waitlist mode for 6 months pretty much upon launch.
maybe not. Fuji are telling me that there is going to be plenty of stock available.
We shall see
Wish it had a viewfinder!
you want a different camera then
after see this camera, i start to appreciate ZV E10ii more !!!!
because?
sorry, cant find the link to your AF testing. must be in a seperate video because here it is not, right?
there is no need to be sarcastic.
There might be a AF test video soon when I get the camera again.
I use Sony/Nikon/Fuji/Lumix daily and in my experience AF this camera offers is above average.
@@PavSZ You claim something without proving it. Though there is obvously a need to be sarcastic
This is a great camera for indie filmmakers. Buy a gimbal, a couple of good primes, and you're ready to go. I'm really loving how video-centric this camera is. I've definitely shot short films on much worse cameras and the mediocre auto focus is a non issue as filmmakers should be manually focusing anyway.
it is and auto focus is not mediocre on this camera. Far from it
nice review, thank you
Thanks for watching!
Having a dedicated VLOG setting on a non-stabilized camera, that's quite daring
Show me a new camera in this price range with ibis lol
the price reflects that. It is usable
Is the camera plastic or metal built ?
Plastic. Standard in this price range
@PavSZ thank you was wondering how they had build it if it had been metal would definitely be a winner in every book
Agreed!
finally someone agrees with me 😉
In this camera is no image stabilization. What's the point this camera for beginners?
it is not difficult to use a camera without stabilisation
Once again so few people who own the x100 Fuji's have a clue on their only real unique feature. The leaf shutter allows a high speed sync that doesn't suck, allowing on or off camera flash in broad daylight. You can do a lot of cool things with the camera, that no other Fuji can do, but if you don't use the feature, you're wasting your money.
that's exactly my point.
Amazing feature but 99 out of 100 people buy x100 for "Fuji Looks" and don't have a slightest clue about the amazing specs.
This is so much better for those people
no weather sealing on the XM5 though
and the price reflects that
Statement: "This is WAY BETTER than X100VI"
Reality: Same camera and/or performance as the X100VI
If it matches the performance yet costs 50% less and weighs XX less, then it is indeed "way better."
it is not the same. You can change lenses on X-M5, that alone makes it way more versatile and it is cheaper, much cheaper
No leaf shutter, hence so high speed flash sync. No EVF. No OVF. So not really the same. If these don't matter to you, then no issue. It just depends what you want from a camera whether or not it is "better."
Yet, missing built-in ND filter, leaf shutter, OVF, EVF... so, similar, but not better. Better for some specific users, just like the X100IV.
@@stephenericwalsh Just typed a nearly identical reply, then only to read yours, haha
Full plastic body?
same as all other cameras from all brands in this price range. Plastic but feels solid
Thank you❤
Make an AF test video if you claim it's as good as Sony. That'll be the true test but I already know you're shilling
I have used it and I use Sony as well. Have you tried this camera yet?
The lack of IBIS for stills is really poor, presumably your excellent pictures are shot at 1/125th and higher? 🙂
Yes nice form factor and great sensor…
Yes indeed!
Bro, no offense, but when u are making a statement that doesn’t seems to be persuading, it is a common courtesy to at least try to come up with some kind of evidence, instead of throwing shades at people who don’t believe you, especially when you are the one benefiting from your statement. Maybe you are right, but it is also true for us that it looks kinda shady when u say that the problems are magically ‘completely’ solved, while you never posted any kind of footage throughout the entire 10min video.
As an old fuji/sony fan, I truly hope that the Af issue is completely resolved as well. And to make a difference, I think all the users should start pointing out what’s wrong to the manufacturer instead of being ‘fanboys’. I guess that where I get pretty uncomfortable with your video, because ‘it seems’ that you are trying to avoid, or even hide the well known shortcoming of the product,
I deeply hope you are telling everyone the truth, and we’re all wrong though. Like, seriously.
I'm not avoiding anything.
I had a camera for literally 24 hours. Just not enough time to shoot everything everyone might want to see. I did my best and my honest take on this camera.
I review cameras and lenses for a living and I use Sony/Nikon/Lumix/Fuji/Canon and others on regular basis.
This in my opinion and in the short time I've been using it stood out instantly to me.
How this new predictive algorithm works.
I've only managed to get few video shots with it (all in my video) and it works really well for me with the 16-50mm lens.
I had a camera from Fuji Poland and I live in UK. I've asked Fuji UK for a one day loan of the camera so I can film AF tests but they've put me at the end of the waiting queue for it.
I'll do the follow up ASAP. Not avoiding it, looking forward to it.
@ Thank you for your lengthy reply. I’ll take your word as it is.
Yea, I know ppl including me are sensitive.
I look forward for your following AF video. Have a nice day.
Haha the poland overheating comment was funny 😂
Thanks 😂
When someone said any camera is better than x100 series just because it can change the lens then he dont know why there is x100 is in the market for
someone doesn't know that probably 99 out of 100 people who actually buy x100 camera only care about Fuji looks and not much more than that
This is a vloggers' camera, hence no viewfinder needed, but artic' screen!
true
so nobody gonna talk about that spider at 1:46?
we don't talk about the spider here 😉
so 16mm = 24mm aps-c why they still do that... and advertise as a vlog.. you need to be 11-12mm on wide end
it annoys me a lot.
Why they make 33mm lenses for APS-C cameras and call them 33mm, they are 50mm on that sensor, no matter how you look at it
At the price, I'd rather get a Olympus em10 mk4 to keep in my bag at all times.
Love so much about it, but unfortunately the fully-articulated screen is a deal-breaker for me.
standard in this price range. You won't find anything different on any camera in this class
what would you prefer?
@@Liljoozy I do love that tilt and fully articulated screen of Lumix GH7 but it adds a lot of bulk to the camera.
@@Liljoozy Fixed would be fine, but tilting would be a bonus. Fully-articulated is just a negative for my own tastes; I'd rather it just be fixed.
Just like the very capable and _weather resistant_ camera you _already_ have in your pocket every single day - and that one happens to do a million other things too!
yes but good luck changing lenses on your smart phone 😉📸
@@PavSZ
No need.
@@Mamo878 what if you already own bunch of lenses and need a smaller and simpler camera?
There is market for it. Not everyone needs viewfinder. Lack of it, does not make this camera unusable

Miodzio?
@@PavSZ yes, this Camera is super!
what bothers me about the review is that you're using a 800$ lens instead of the kit lens. Great review though, thank you
that's all I had
It is a huge mistake that it does not have an EVF.
it's not. Different camera for a different user. If you need a viewfinder, you go for a different model. That's it
If you want a point and shoot camera, get yourself a smartphone. 😊
this is hardly a point and shoot camera. This has got every single function my full frame pro cameras have .... build is different but that's a different story
我线上购物抢不到
Nice camera at good price but no weather sealing, no ND or leaf shutter.
and the price reflects that. Not many people who buy x100Vi care about leaf shutter or even know what that is
I wouldn’t call it a very good price, compared to fullframe Canon R8 it seems pretty high to me.
This is really a sad day for me as I'm handing in my resignation from SonyBoyz 😢
I'm sorry, it's a good review, but I'll have to give it a thumbs down. In the very title you state it's better than the x100VI, so I was expecting a comparison, but there was less than 10 seconds of a very superficial comment on the differences between these two cameras.
hi
