Also , for the clean shaven to get the snuggest fit possible. Mold spores will pass through your beard & you can inhale them. Just an FYI
Several of my family members have had severe health issues from mold exposure. My sister had pneumonia. My niece got a severe sinus infection that left her with a hole in her soft palate that required several surgeries to repair after months on meds to kill the mold in her body. Bad stuff mold.
I have a niece that is so sensitive to mold she had to move out of her home in California to a complete different area, glad you are taking all the precautions you can.
ServPro wanted $27,000 to do a 1678sqft double wide for me. That included demo of drywall, staple removal, and the full remediation. Manager told me if I can remove the fixtures and drywall, they'd do the rest for $9k. So, I guess it's based on your budget. I'd rather spend my $$ on new lumber than other laborers. Just be smart about it.
So glad to see you are wearing the protective gear. That looks like a rough job but I bet it will be a huge weight lifted once that is done. I always admire how well you both plan out and research each task. Everything has come such a long way. Stay safe!!!
Great job Nate. That's hard, tedious work. Please be as safe as possible. Follow Ken Smith's suggestion, sounds like sound advice to me. It's looking real good down there.
I have used a similar product years ago, I had to scrape off all the heaviest mold sections and dirt etc first, then spray twice about 2 weeks apart. I also sprayed insecticide and timber preservative another 2 weeks after that. Once a year afterwards I would spray with white vinegar to stop it returning, proper ventilation is the best cure long term. Also looks like you need some more floor support down there, some heavier joist bearers and a few more piers perhaps, an experienced contractor could advise you if you can find a good one.
That was quite a job. It is amazing how well it worked though. I'm glad you got that suit to wear, hopeful it did a good job for you. Have a Blessed day.

Lots of good advice in the comments Nate. It is a huge job you have taken on. A few mentions of Art. I noticed in one of his videos when he was doing the same thing that he blew the dust away first so that the mould cleaner went straight on to the surfaces. Just a thought. Keep up the great work, so rewarding in the end!
Wow Nate, what a job but it's looking alot better than when you started. You probably lost a few lbs working in that suit. Lol 😆 stay safe and get some fresh air.
Good job of attacking a miserable job in sweltering heat. That is much closer to the definition of a real man than most definitions we see in our culture.
How in the HECK did you end up with a Bird Nest in the grill of your truck???? I could see it happening if you NEVER DROVE the truck!!!!!!! WOW!!!! Crazy stuff!! LOL!!!!!!
Take a look at the RMR86 Safety Data Sheet -- you will see the stuff is a 4 to 6% by weight solution of Sodium Hypochlorite. Clorox laundry bleach is 5 -10 % by weight solution of Sodium Hypoclorite the exact same main ingredient. Pool chlorinating liquid from a pool supply is about 12% and likely to be your lowest cost source about $5/gal at Walmart. The SDS doesn't seem to indicate any other component. Whey the stuff finally drys and the chlorine smell is gone there will be a residue of mostly sodium chloride (table salt), possibly some sodium carbonate.
Many years ago I had a friend who had a dead bird stuck to the front of his truck, it was there for the two years I knew him! He said God gave him a special hood orniment.
I just looked it up and RMR 86 PRO Mold and mildew stain remover is just 4-8% sodium hypochlorite (bleach). Bleach is not really recommended for mold and mildew in crawlspace, but a hydrogen peroxide solution. I'm glad it worked for you but this may help others in the future as well.
Hey Nate, love the video, thank you! Did you seal off the area? Also wondering how long the solution took to dry? / if you used any kind of fan to dry out the basement after. Getting prepared to do the same thing to our basement!
There are some DIY projects to take on, for sure there are. Some reason, I would consider mold and or asbestos not included in the DIY list, as to the seriousness, severity of handling and disposing of hazardous materials. Obviously the property owners will do as they choose, but if it were available perhaps experienced help a good thing.
I have had mold remediation. I had it professionally done. As it was explained to me, spraying the mold is not enough to eliminate it. Mold has little feet that attach to the surface it touches. Once sprayed, the mold must be scrubbed to break the bond the little feet has with the surface so regrowth does not occur. Then the area must be thoroughly dried. Once dried, a special expensive paint must be applied to the area to seal the surface and prevent oxygen from feeding any spores that may be in the crevices. I had this done and have not had any reoccurance. It is a rough process.
No it was no extremely expensive. For the work they did, it was incredibly reasonable. Just research your contractors. Look into the methods they choose to use. Ask questions. Check references. I got to see his work first hand on another project. I've not had a problem since. Hope this helps.
That's why you have to spray it with RMR 141 which is a fungicide and mildewcide. Once it's all dry, you need a dehumidifier to keep the moisture at bay. You can also as an extra step fog with concrobium. Problem solved
You might want to spray the concrete walls too then put a moisture barrier on inside walls of crawl space to slow down any water that could find its way in.
I’m guessing you didn’t wait long enough between sprays. Probably just washing off what you just put on without enough time for the chemical reaction to set in.
Is that stuff temp sensitive? I bet that would work in a cheap fog machine like they sell around Halloween. Just fill the tank and walk away for a few hours and let it do it's job. We had a mister when I was at Manny Moe and Jerks auto chain that would put out mist and get sucked into the AC ducts on a car to get mold off the evaporators.
What is the active ingredient in RMR? Sodium Hypochlorite makes the mold invisible- take a tape lift sample and see what is on the surface. If no mold then you are good to go.
Nate, i think you took on a large job that many people, myself included, would never have attempted. This in itself is a huge accomplishment. My compliments to you. But, you have my email address, and i would have come to assist you as needed in this project, especially since you did it alone. Good morning Nate. I have a question. Did you do a profetional home inspection of the property before buying it? or did you do your own inspection yourself? My husband and I were buying property in Tennessee and we saw a few properties that had the same problem in the crawl space.
