I have the 8 4 Alpine system. The Alpine stock speakers are better then the speakers he pulled out. But these speakers are still an upgrade. At low volume the speakers sound the same as stock but when you turn up the volume these speakers shine. It's a big improvement. I purchased the wire harness to connect to the stock harness and it worked fine. I did dash and sound bar speakers.
The new speakers will be significantly louder. At 8 ohms, the 2.2uf capacitor on the factory 3.5" speakers acts as a high pass filter way up north of 9Khz. In true FCA fashion, the speaker wiring polarity is the opposite of what the service manual's wiring diagram tells you it is. That exact same 3.5" speaker (Mopar p/n 5059062AB) has been installed various Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram models since 2006.
So, the factory speakers have a capacitor in line on them, but Dean said not to use the Kenwood Capacitor because it makes a pop on power on and power off, well wouldn't the factory capacitor do the same thing?
I bought some infinity 3.5 from Amazon for my jeep jt man this made a huge freaking difference ! Thank you ! Gonna change the 3.5 ones on the sound bar !
Soft dome tweeters are miles better than middlers in my opinion. If I had a JL I would put 3 way components with 6.5 inch midbasses replacing the 4 inch speakers, midranges to replace the factory middlers, and custom fiberglass A-pillar pods for the tweeters, and the soundbar gets 6.5 coaxial speakers or components depending on the availability on the specific line of speakers from a particular manufacturer I want.
I added these to my JLU and it sound’s awesome! I’m an old schools 60s-70s and 80s rock kind of guy. These speakers brought out all the sounds from cowbell to the high hat, to the snare drum to third rhythm guitar. Thanks for the video!
I did this swap out yesterday on my 2024 Wrangler Unlimited for the dash and sound bar. What a difference! Thanks for the recommendation and your video was very helpful. Any recommendations for upgrading the 4” speakers in the sound bar as well?
I just did the two up front using Kenwood’s harnesses that came in the box. Made a huge difference but now the soundbar needs it too. Did you do anything other than plug and play for those?
You say not to use the included crossovers… so the capacitor on the factory 3 inchers, are those removing the lows or highs? And the capacitor on the kenwoods, are those for the tweeter or removing the super low frequencies?
As I would expect, the speakers are 8 ohm because their connected in parallel of 2 speakers each for a 4 ohm load. But if you put in 4 ohm speakers will give it a 2 ohm load then so seems could blow out the amp section of radio eventually although it seems many people have installed these. But obviously they would be twice as loud as originals.
I was thinking the same thing that changing them to a 4 ohm, in the long run or if volume is too high it could damage the amp... one way I was thinking was connecting both of them in series to raise ohms from 4 ohms to 8 ohms
Only thing I don't understand. So the factory 3" speakers have a crossover, meaning its likely a full range signal. But on the new speakers youre halfling the ohlm load and not using the crossover? I think the speaker will be fine, but badly mixed music is going to sound rough. Think I'd rather live with turn on pop.
one more question if someone can answer, is it ok to use the 4ohm speakers with the 7" display factory head unit? instead of 8ohm, people are saying it will fry your head unit? thanks.
Shouldn't the front be backwards? if the white was negative on the rear plug it makes the gray/purple negative which is where the capacitor lays also, the gray/yellow should be positive
Weird. When I was adjusting my stereo balance, I moved it toward the lower right speaker that is the only one with green polarity. Wonder what that means?
Great video but I hobestly think the kicker option is a better choice. The Kickers sensitivity is 5db higher (83 vs. 88) so it can do a lot more with same power.
Surprised to see you guys cuy off the stock plug. There are Metra plugs that prevent you from having to cut the oem plugs. FYI for anyone thinking of doing this in your Jeep or other Mopar. I've done this in my Wrangler, Dart, Challenger, and Ram Rebel.
Those Kenwood 3.5s are cheap enough that I would donate them to the next owner instead of putting those factory speakers back in. One less cost for his customer.
Do the gladiators with factory subwoofer come with a factory amp.. also I took apart the factory sub and looks to me like it has 3 voice coils how would I get a signal to a hi to low signal
So for the soundbar Crutchfiekd sent me identical connectors to the dash speakers. Do i need to reverse the wiring fornthe soundbar as I'm not getting good aound from the soundbar now?
So, it is not always better to have the speakers playing into the cabin? (Perdonen mi inglés malo) es que tengo un Civic al que le reemplacé solo los altavoces pero el detector de polaridad es rojo para todos ellos, sin embargo conecté los nuevos altavoces al revés, de modo que ahora el detector indica verde
I have a 80prs in network mode my 6.5s are running 63hz at 24db to 3150hz at 24 db then the tweeters are 3150 at 24db can i drop my 6.5s down from 3150 to 1500 and add a smaller mid into the mix and run it from 1500 up and tie my tweeters on to them with passive crossovers?
I have a question about these speakers, I did research on my Tacoma and would these 3 1/2 fit in my Access can in headliner? Cause already changed head unit just waiting on speakers. Thanks for the help
Thanks for taking the time and effort to do a great how-to video! The problem now is to find those Excelon KFC-X3C's, Any other options you can recommend?
Yeah... I am on the same boat trying to find those Kenwood speakers.. they still show up on the Kenwood website so they are probably not discontinued .. I don't want to wait for a new batch... I wonder if a 4'' inch works if I modify the mount on my Jepp JL..

Yes the Kenwood is a lot better then the stock Alpines.
Have these in my Challenger from the xp6903c set. I replaced the p132, with these and WOW!! Completely different. It amazes me how clear they are.

My 2020 jl has the supreme sound system. Never had a issue. Very loud. I've walked out about two houses and I can hear mine.
Was that a base model? my JL Moab with the alpine system sounds decent for factory.
What issues can you see if the speakers are out of polarity with one another, and how can you resolve those issues when using just a factory radio?

Would have been nice to see what factory stereo he had to start with.
7:57 “don’t lose these” - yep, I lost one. If you do too, it’s a M4-0.7 x 12mm, I added a washer to it.

Are these better than the more popular Kicker 2-ways everyone runs?
Nice video, sorry for my ignorance but can you go from a 8 ohm speaker to a 4 ohm without damaging the ouputs on the head unit...?
any replacements for the 4" in the sound bar? like to do those too, any suggestions? thanks
Yes. I just ordered RetroSound R-452N.
I would have like more info on the wiring add ons for connecting the new speaker - checked the polarity, got the first speaker out and now what?

That's exactly what I thought. I believe he said it backwards.
Weird. When I was adjusting my stereo balance, I moved it toward the lower right speaker that is the only one with green polarity.
Wonder what that means?
So going from 8 to 4ohm won’t stress the factor amp?
Exactly.
It seems that these speakers are no longer available at Amazon or Crutchfield.

I’ve asked them this before and they say they have had bad experiences with them sometimes and they prefer to solder them for a secure fit.

Replaced mine with infinity reference..love it🤟

I have the Alpine system as well and it lacks highs, I also want to know if I could do this even though I'm running the Alpine system.
Great job
I wish you guys could get ahold of my wife's 04 LJ.
Will this work on the 8.4 Alpine? (Gladiator)
Could the factory have made a mistake with the polarity
would those Kenwood's be a good fit to replace the factory 3.5s in a 2012 ram 1500?

Replacing an 8ohm speaker with a 4ohm creates an impedance mismatch. Is this a smart thing to do?
Exactly
No it is not smart. Impedence matching is what creates maximum power transfer from the amplifier. Google the term for explanation.
Won’t that 4 ohm load overwhelm the stock hu?
