Please don't knock Al Jolson for the blackface, it was a different time and era, just like in those days Gays were considered criminals but not today, times change, the good thing about Al Jolson was he had a beautiful voice which no one can deny.....

Nice to see a real black man so dedicated and in love with his craft, he transcended the physical and mental shackles that would otherwise hold him down

? Was that sarcasm? Al Jolson was a white Jewish dude who wore black face as part of his show. His real name was Asa Yoelson and he was born in Lithuania. If you want to watch a real black man who excelled at his craft watch Muhammad Ali or listen to Black Superman.

Jolson's songs and style were revolutionary 100 years ago. Don't be so quick to call him racist. Jolson insisted that black performers in his shows be paid the same as white performers. He was also perhaps the only white performer that was allowed into black venues and he and his wife would invite black performers to come to their home for parties on the same basis as white performers. It is through people like him of both races that barriers were brought down.

Jolson definitely wasn't a racist. As you say, he was supportive of black entertainers and insisted they were employed in his Shows.
