    I had a dream where I found myself thousands of miles away from home with no money at all and no way to get back home except to walk. And in that dream I clearly remember saying to myself that this has to be a dream, thats the only explanation why I am in such a predicament. I looked all around the environment looking for anything that would reveal I was in a dream but after finding northing I was convinced that I had really screwed up. . . And then I woke up, in my bed, in my home, safe and sound.
    But, in the following days, I really did have my doubts about reality.

    • @Octoberfurst
      @Octoberfurst ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had super realistic dreams too. Not long ago I dreamed that I was married to an old girlfriend of mine. We were living in a beautiful home by a lake. I remember walking outside when I realized that my ex was married to someone else so this had to be a dream. I puzzled over it and then looked around like you did to see if anything was off. I could hear the gravel crunching under my feet in the drive-way, I could hear birds singing, I saw the sun reflecting off the lake and felt its warmth on my face. This HAS to be real I said to myself even though it didn't really make sense. Then I woke up in my bed. Frankly I was rather disappointed that it wasn't real. My ex girlfriend was a hottie and that home was pretty sweet! If virtual reality was real I don't think I would ever leave! LOL!

    • @bradleypoe6846
      @bradleypoe6846 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's keys to making dreams more lucid and self-aware though, no matter how realistic they get. Consider that you likely get cues in your dreams telling you when to wake up to use the toilet. That is just you, reminding yourself that "If I see THIS, that's what it means and I should wake up," or whatnot. You can train your unconscious mind to have other cues that do other things. :)

    Beautiful graphics John Michael. Free sci fi concept of the day: neutrino radiation is greater than photonic. A massive "cosmic neutrino background" was released less than a second after the BB. Supernovae also release much more neutrino power than photonic. Perhaps a gigantic lifeform, planetsized or larger, developed ways to "see" neutrino flux. Perhaps an "eye" detector made of liquid xenon.

    This content brings up some interesting possible Fermi paradox solutions. Any alien civilization advanced enough is not in fact leaving their home planet and is exploring virtually from the comfort of their own home. Possibly some of them have sent out probes, but they are either cloaked and undetectable, or are disguised as asteroids, rocks, or other space debris and are indistinguishable from common natural objects floating around in space, at least so with our current technology.

  • @katherinestives940

    Consider that if you're brain is being fed stimulus from a computer, then even if you wouldn't choose to live in a VR environment, the system could feed you data telling you that you aren't living in a VR environment and you would have no way of knowing the difference. And if they could manipulate memory, they could put you in a VR environment against your will, then simply erase the memory of doing so.
    How's *that* for a spooky October concept?

    • @boobah5643
      @boobah5643 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they can manipulate memory, most of what you perceive as yourself is whatever they create.
      It's also much, much easier to put you into the virtual reality while unconscious than fiddle with someone's memory.

    JMG is one of the best minds of today, if only more people were able to postulate the endless black seas of infinity the way this man does. Our earthly dramas of momentary emotional reaction would seem so boring. Our internal voices from unknown dimensions nagging at us from inside til our meatbodies flutter about trying to cope, how strange of a thing we are, our motives beyond survival are truly bizarre even to ourselves, we are cosmically insane light consciousness manifested materially through hallucinations we call comprehension. And we worry about our haircuts lol.

    People contemplating deextinction tend to forget one major thing, that being that having the DNA of an animal and maybe a compatible extant animal to carry it to birth isn't nearly enough. All animals have myriads of microorganisms living in and on them, some of them very much essential for the host to survive. You don't just need Mammoth DNA, it might very well be that you'd need dozens of species of microbes from their stomachs, intestine, mouth, skin and so on to get a healthy mammoth.

    It also makes sense linguistically. This is what Google says if you ask "fantasy vs. fiction:"
    _"Fiction explores what is possible but not true, while fantasy explores what is impossible."_

    One thing I almost never hear in the discussion of bringing back the mammoth is the lack of genetic diversity. Until we get a lot more DNA or the ability to write genetic code they won't last long because of inbreeding. This may be a useful exercise in increasing our knowledge but it won't be a kindness to the mammoths.

    "...attempts to bring back the mammoth..."
    Shows CG of dinosaurs.
    Jack Horner theorized you could take the DNA of an emu and turn on certain genes and turn off other genes and get a Dinosaur.

    Your comment about not using virtual reality I found interesting. As a student of art I came to realize all art is virtual reality. It's just not rendered in 3D. Good art in perspective has a 3D effect anyways. Have you ever looked at a painting when the eyes seemed to follow you from any angle you view it? Have you every looked at a painting of a scene and imagined yourself in it? Good art has this effect by 'tricks' the masters learned throughout the centuries.

    Here's a hunch for what it's worth. Biological alien (exo-person) spies should be detectable. From what little we know of how human brains and lungs work, we know that human brains and lungs both depend on snippets of "micro RNA" to allow brains to manage complex memories and thoughts, and to allow lungs to adapt to changing environments. This is something that operates on a very basic, ribosome-driven level, and while it might not be unique to Earth, it might be low-percentage that any exo-person species would use micro RNA snippets exactly the same way we do. Even if the RNA base pairs are the same, an exo-person as human mimic that thinks differently and reacts differently to weather is going to leave behind different micro RNA through their mucous membranes, particularly if they get sick with colds, influenza or other viruses.
    This might be detectable with the right kind of facial tissue, or a Kleenex test, in other words. :) Or at least as detectable as a novel strain of COVID-19 might be.
    But then it goes hardmode when computers are involved. The second half of my hunch is that while biology can get as weird as evolution allows it to be, there might very well be only so many ways you can make a digital computer and/or an internet. And to the extent that their computers can do what ours do, that might very well mean that their computers can either be the same as ours or at least capable of emulating ours.
    Maybe that's the real reason why you'd have a Von Neumann probe in someone else's star system. You wait until there's electronic Mass Media, estimate when the society you're watching is going to have digital internet from there, and set yourself up to be online in ways that "pass as normal" at every step of the way. Between that and being on a planet like Earth where the idea of passing as normal can change so much from culture to culture, and well, it's possible that the "they're already here" just means "they're on the internet being weird just like we are." This might not be so detectable.

    Maybe. But as for the lungs.. not sure where you are going with that, but if you can do some sort of continuity of consciousness into an energy matrix or a virtual world, then.. Do you think that's air you're breathing?

    I know you said you're going to mention it in a future video, but I'm curious about lungs being a possible limiter on life extension. If you can create artificial life, couldn't you just create a new clone body to transplant your brain into?

    • @bradleypoe6846
      @bradleypoe6846 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I might have cracked this by accident thinking of something else. Within the same person, from Earth or maybe not so much, both brains and lung tissues use snippets of "micro RNA" sequences. Brains do it to manage memory and concentration, lungs do it to adapt to changes in heat and humidity. Point is they probably have to be a close match, at least in the *age of the cells* that produce the micro RNA. Old lungs probably can't support a young brain or vice-versa.

      Neural tissue is obviously the only limiting factor of any great concern. Everything else will eventually have a synthetic equivalent that’s easily substitutable. If you don’t believe in a spiritual component to humanity then the same would apply to your brain and consciousness. In terms of strictly organics, it’s unlikely that your consciousness could ever be “mapped across” to a cloned brain, and repair of your current one is far more feasible.

    Remember the game, "Spore" from some years back? It seemed like a neat idea but was a disappointment. My fantasy simulation would be a program with a full knowledge of which sequence of base pairs code for which traits. A simulation that allows the user to put DNA together like tinker toys to find out what you can come up with. We wouldn't be doing this in real life, of course, just in computer simulation. Wouldn't mind seeing something like this in my life time.

    • @bradleypoe6846
      @bradleypoe6846 ปีที่แล้ว

      So basically a "Spore 10" concept where you start from a list of ALL possible RNA and DNA base pairs (not just the ones that work on Earth), pick 4, put them together and a) pray you don't get endless Frankfurter Anatomy, while b) also trying to walk the fine line between Superman Chemistry and Biogenic Explosives. =)))) I could get into it, but you know there ARE gamers who would only play the thing to "create" and evolve the most extreme apex species imaginable.
