I am a shoe repairer myself. Third generation in fact. I appreciate the level of craftsmanship that you put in every resole. Before watching your videos I never saw a slip-sole bonded and McKay stitched together before adhering and stitching. I assume this eliminates any movement between the slip-sole and sole thus there is little chance of separation with extended wear and exposure to the elements. Between the bonding, stitching, copper rivets, and strategically placed nails the two literally become one piece much more impervious to expansion and contraction of the two dissimilar pieces of the sole as well as less likely to allow exposure to water to lessen the bond between these. This brings me to your sole as well as brand of "Role Club". I assume you have your soles custom manufactured as I've never seen this sole and brand available from any of the remaining shoe finding jobbers? I have learned by watching you some different ways to do a resole like bonding the slip-sole to the outsole prior to bonding and stitching to the footwear. You do great work.

Outstanding work, and very nice to see a younger generation taking up a traditional craft. It's important we don't lose these skills through 'progress' and recognise the value they add. These boots are much better than when they were made, and can be resoled much more easily now..
Magnificent artistry and craftsmanship. Just stumbled on your video - for a young man you have a wonderful old soul ... (no pun intended but it’s delightful 😁)
you doing a few pair made me decide I was able to try and do a pair myself. I did a pair of Doc shoes I had that were in very good shape except the soles were worn. Hand made welt, hand stitched with a leather midsole, and natural crepe with vibram heels.

I love watching you resole Docs. I still have my first pair from 1989, and it's good to see that someone is finally willing to save them with a resole when the time comes. I spent decades being told that I would have to throw them away once the soles wore out.
If your willing to send them to England, there are actually 2 cobblers authorized by dr martens to resole dr martens using real dr marten soles and equipment. One is called TOMS and the other is the key cobbler, both have fb pages. It is t even that expensive.
Odd that anyone told you that. They're Goodyear welted boots shouldn't be a problem to re sole. Solovair even sells replacement soles for their boots. I can't believe you have any tread left on those boots from 1989! 🤯
@@mrbenjaminhubert Yeah, I don't know, but that's what cobblers in Boston were saying for a long time. I have lots of friends who complained about not being able to get their Docs resoled. There's even a cobbler in Beverly MA who started posting, "YES! I CAN resole Docs!" about 15 years ago, although he would just cut the bottom and glue on a Vibram sole.
I'm impressed! I only wear doc martin industrial boots in brown, the soles wear out to quick. I can make the uppers last for years. this post was very informative. thanks, and great job
These are such amazing videos, never thought watching someone re sole and fix shoes and boots would be so enjoyable. Keep posting !!! I was in your neck of the woods i would bring my shoes in to be fixed.
@Alexandros K Yeah but if you've ever worn Doc's for work you'll know that the 'Airwear' soles, while very comfortable, will usually wear out long before the rest of the boots, much like the soft rubber soles on Redwings. The point of this conversion is that once done the rubber sole and heel can be easily replaced by almost any repair shop. Those boots, as they are now, could potentially last a lifetime if taken care of.
My hope is that your channel will inspire others in this over-tech’d world to take up working with their hands and experience the joy and satisfaction of being a craftsman.

The end product after you got done with them, are boots I find attractive. I would totally rock those. Good job!

The only correct way to resole Doc Martens is to send the boots back to the manufacturer and get them to put a new sole on it for you.
