I like the re-sole of these Docs. I've been wearing Docs for over 30 years. If I could have been able to have them re-soled 25 years ago, I would still have my original pair. So much sentimental value in my Docs.
Love watching your work, reminds me of watching my grandfather as a kid . He rebuilt the machines you are using . I have a landis 12K and several others . Made me want to be a mechanic and craftsman . It’s a lost art keep it up . Ever need parts or a manual I have tons .

There is just something about having a pair of your favorite boots resoled. I'm an old guy but in my younger days I always got my shoes resoled, both dress shoes and work boots, and they lasted forever. It's great watching Brian bring these shoes back to life. I enjoy your videos Brian.
I knew that ripping off the pvc welt and replacing it with a leather one to which a 'proper' sole could be attached, was possible (and have wanted to see someone attempt this for a while) but the time spent doing must surely cost more than a new pair, so not really economically sensible? HOWEVER, when it comes to personal stuff like shoes and boots, sense often takes a holiday... Thanks for showing us it being done though, Brian!
The leather is cheap, the construction is garbage, and the goodyear welt is a pain to re-sole. Whoever sent these in must have a good deal of sentimental value invested.
The shoes definitely had a senimental attachment to them, would have been cheaper to buy a new pair for sure Well we can look at it this way, its job security for Brian the Bootmaker and he can keep making quality videos for us all to watch and enjoy
Nu uh Brian says it makes more sense to resolve because their sole lasts longer than another pair and then you just get minor repairs and save more in the long run.
Plus you don’t have to wear in a new pair. It’s also worth mentioning that, two years ago, it was easy to find a pair of Docs or Redwings in your size. Today, everything is in short supply. Definitely going to be sending Brian my 8053s!
25 years ago when I lived in Europe Doc Martens were the total rage. Every young person seemed ho have a pair. However when it came to resoling the boots my shoemaker told me they were of such low quality in contrast to real leather shoes or boots. He also told me that these boots were not made to be resoled. Back than I never even heard of throw away shoes or boots as my family had everything resoled and rebuild. Now I watch Brian and - yes he is probably thinking "cheap shoes" - but "I will make them better than they ever were before".
Doc Martens are real leather shoes. It takes around 3 months to "break in" a proper pair of these shoes or boots as the leather and construction is so tough. I know, I've worn many a pair in the past. The sole is a special compound hence the name "AirWare" or Bouncing Sole" which are designed to resist acids, oils, fats, petrol and alkali. The sole is estimated to last around 20 years. Suggest that perhaps you speak to your "shoemaker" and see if he can suggest any of his stock soles with similar properties and longentivity
There's no way they last 20 years or anything close - you can go through the soles in less than a year easily & I've done it (and this was before they off shored production). Anything but "so tough".
I remember it took about 6month for them to be broken in but after 2 years the soles were worn thru. I did walk allot in them all over the place (probably because then I didn't have a car yet). But they certainly were not of high quality.
Enjoy these videos. Your resoles really breathe new life to these shoes/boots, often making them better than what they originally were. Since you work on so many different brands and types of footwear, I would enjoy hearing your thoughts on the pieces that you are working on....perhaps include a little commentary here and there...
Impressive. I love the uppers of my Doc boots, but the soles wear out fast. I’m surprised Brian didn’t use yellow thread to attach the sole. That would’ve been awesome.
@@gamesincharacter5106 The company doesn't decide what you do with your shoes. This isn't a shoe manufacturer. He's repairing them on behalf of a customer.
Hey Sole Brother..... I was busy over the weekend so I am just seeing your latest effort ..... I’m so glad to see you balance the heels!! @@mikeisgettinupset I agree - no air sole, no yellow laces - no longer Doc's... oh well - for the price of the resole, he could have pickled up a new pair that would have lasted another 10 years... @marksmallman
Brian, you just made the Docs mo' betta! Fave part of this Vid us when you had your Maestro look over your work before attaching the heel. You've got a humble spirit... BIG UPs for that! 👊

I have a pair of Docs from 30 years ago that I wear occasionally and I remember breaking them in over a few months and then they formed to my feet and fit me really nicely. I wear them maybe twice a year now. They were the actual made in England ones. I bought a pair of the Chinese versions once to see how they were and the quality was nothing in comparison. The leather on mine would make them worthy of this process
Look at Solovair/NPS in the UK. They make a similar boot to Dr Martens, but with a choice of full leather, Dainite, or 'bouncing' sole. (They're much less common so have a bit more cachet too.)
To everyone that says the repair is worth more that the shoes; why do it? I say a broken in pair of shoes Is worth their weight in gold. Well not exactly but there is value in it. A well made pair of shoes was made to be resoled. There was a shoe shop on every street. Now there are a handful. Kudos to you Brian for keeping this noble art going.
We are not claiming Dr. Martens as the best. They have really bold stitching on the outsole. You either love it, or hate it. They have FAT translucent outsole welts on them. That's what makes them so cool.
Then tell him to put in a shank and replace the low-quality foam with proper cork or leather. Doc Martens are notorious for losing support as time goes by, especially because they cheap out on the shank. Also, stitching on the underside wears out as the sole wears out so request open channel stitching at the very least. It'll save you money in the long run.
I like the methodical and meticulous approach you have to your work. The end result is always satisfying. Nice to see your regular hat back, and I'm glad that you've kept using the safety glasses. And greetings to your teacher/mentor who had a cameo this week. Love your music; it's calming and creates the perfect mood.
Outstanding job. Those shoes look better when you’re finished with them than when they were factory new. I watched a video yesterday of a guy cutting a Doc Marten boot in half & they’re not so well made-nothing like your work. But that’s ok. People can send them to you so you can make them right. 🙂🥾👍☮️🌞
There are cobblers around that can resole Dr Martens with a new original air cushion sole. While his craftsmanship is great, these boots will never be the same again now that the air cushion sole is gone.
My cobbler took my 1997 1461s cut off the sole, left the welt and welt stitching, replaced the yellow cushioning with a piece of leather and glued on a gumlite sole. Three years later they are still fine. Your process seems like such overkill but it was fun to watch.
I had a pair of DM shoes resoled once, I didn't work for me, the shoe became to narrow to wear comfortably Role Clubs look much better and hopefully as comfortable.
The world is changing and more people need this type of work to be done. It's worth paying more for a pair of shoes to be repaired with the expectation that they will give years of service. Birdy

I have some Dr. Marten steel toe pull on’s I’ve had for 4 years. I have hundreds of miles in them and they look great besides the sole. I deep clean and oil weekly or bi-weekly depending on how dirty they get. Amazing quality for the price.
If you enjoyed your Docs that much, you'll love Thorogoods. They are made of superior materials and construction. You'll pay for them, though. Best $220 I ever spent on footwear.
If I didn’t need the caffeine fix your videos would completely replace my morning coffee, now I take it with cream, one sugar and a Brian The Bootmaker video.
My wife and I have been wearing Docs for 40 years, but were always frustrated by being told that our favorite boots and shoes couldn't be resoled. It's wonderful to see someone not only do the 'impossible', but do it so beautifully. Side note: it that the Chippewa boots that you're resoling and cutting down from your unboxing video on the shelf towards the end? I'd love to see that video.
I've worn out two pair of Doc Marten's safety shoes. One was a 1925, the other like the 8053; both steel toe. I have another 1925 I wear some now for work. Never wore out the sole, mine always cracked open where you flex the toe.

I wonder if he's allowed to?
Michael-Patrick probably not different companies have different rules and ways of doing things
Michael-Patrick and if he did that may risk him being charged for using another’s company’s trademark without awareness and permission by them

My thoughts, exactly. This seems to be the second time these shoes have been resoled, as well.
