    I’m in a vegetative state as I lay in my bed watching random videos. I don’t think I’ll ever need one of these, but it’s good to know there is such a product to rely on if I ever, on the off chance, I decide to take up skydiving and happen to get myself into a predicament and have to rely on a self-rescue from a tree. I will have a sound snooze tonight.

    what is the static and dynamic load of the rope ?

  • @scdrescher1
    @scdrescher1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    One locking carabiner, a rescue 8 (so you can double wrap for more control), a 5’ sewn loop of 2” flat webbing, and twice the length of however much 6mm spectra line you think you’ll need. Your system is cool but it leaves your rope attached at the top anchor making it unretrievable which, if you’re lowering from a ski lift, really complicates things when the problem is fixed and they want to spin the chair again. From a SERE perspective one might want to retrieve that line so they can use it in other applications. The sit harness you have is cool because it can double as a sand/snow anchor when no other appropriate anchor options are nearby but then you’re relegated to using a dölpher sitz which, if you’ve ever done one, sucks. But if you’re having to rap off a snow anchor your options are already limited. In caving, having tools with multiple applications is paramount and it’s for that reason I stick with a rescue 8 (the one with the ears). A lot of Gucci tools have come out over the years like the Petzl Stop, the Grigri, the Rescuecender, etc but they all seem to be very one-dimensional when it comes to application. Don’t get me wrong, they are great for whatever application they were designed but I’ve attended multiple tech rescue trainings over the years and everyone seems to want to roll with the new stuff until they put it into practice then they have to use other devices to solve the extra problems their new fangled toys don’t. This device is a very quickly deployed tool that will have a very limited application and if you keep that in mind it looks like it does that job very well but in my experience I prefer to be more flexible and able to deploy what gear I do have in more applications.

      Concur that it isn't a multi-pitch and/or general sport climbing use, not even top-roping...
      However, note the narrator indicated this is for PARATROOPERS OR PARAGLIDERS..........
      That is all, carry on.

    • @scdrescher1
      @scdrescher1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thomasandersen5349 I patrolled for years and always had my kit with me. You only have to sit on the chair once throughout a full-line evac to motivate you to carry your evac kit. I still prefer my rescue-8. The problem with this system on a ski lift is that the line can’t be self-retrieved. It has to be removed from the top which means someone has to ride the line or they have to run the chair with it dangling which could create even more problems. As far as for paragliding/etc. I can see the value as you will want to escape quickly and easily and this rig allows you to do so but for any application where the line needs to be retrieved I don’t see this working. It would be a cool system for a firefighter’s bailout kit but we’ve already got similar systems and this doesn’t offer anything new.

    Color code the halves of the saddle straps. Each strap is half red and half white, so that the carabiner can be looped confidently. Also feed up to 10 feet of rope through the arrester, or leave a loose service loop that the user can either extend or retract (up or down) to where they are. Starting the arrester right the beginning of the rope from the factory makes no sense.

    holy smokes, as someone who has done a lot of rock climbing I was terrified when I once had to bail in an emergency on some 6mm cordage which is tiny and I didnt have a descender that would work with it so I had use several carabiners which obviously worked but its so not recommended, rappelling is more dangerous then climbing believe it or not so its awesome seeing a device like this, and thankfully 100% technora rope is unbelievably strong and handles higher temps very well, but at 3.6mm its like rappelling on dental floss albeit stupidly strong dental floss. I wann buy one of these so bad

    knowing how stupid I can be when flooded with adrenaline after an incident I worry the black lines of the diaper sling could be a source of error. Having a colored sleeve at the apex of each would make it much easier to see that you actually do have all three locked in, rather than having dropped one or grabbed a hanging riser or whatnot, since under a tree canopy etc. it would be hard to see them.
    Clearly you shouldn't be relying on vision, should verify both when first connecting and later, but let's say you grabbed a hanging riser instead and it felt taught when checked... and it's not like you'll be relying on extensive muscle memory. Since it's a tiny addition it might be worth it even for the unlikely risk.

      @blchfnby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      its multi use for more controlled environments, but in emergency situations, its single use. Would you rather sit up in a shit tree that you couldnt climb down from because your chute got caught really high up with this tool in your pocket and just go "huh, I paid 600 bucks for this, aint no way im usin it to get out of this tree. I dont want to waste the money i spent on buying it" or will you go "thank fuck i bought this, Shame i dont get to keep it, But i get to live another day"
      Epipens are single use, Medications are single use, hell a match is single use. I get where youre coming from, but you have to remember, emergency equipment isnt meant for constant use, Its generally single use immediate aid.

    • @ahole5407
      @ahole5407 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @blchfnby I think you are missing the point. I own lots of rescue equipment including a SPEER Urban Assault Rescue System. The point about single use was when they show how to repack it. Only in a controlled training environment would you need to repack this kit and in that case you don't need it for its intended purpose. It's wasted knowledge. Second is the fact that I already stated above where anyone with useful skills and knowledge would make a build a system to serve this purpose and not rely on a prepackaged government contract item. Even my UARS is a convenience but was still outfitted with additional items that gave the capabilities I needed.

    • @blchfnby
      @blchfnby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      and again, youre missing the point of this equipment, its not for people that know how to rig a rappel harness out of paracord, its not for people who ever intend to have to use it. Its entire purpose is to be a consumable one time use (in emergencies) descender, The repacking is being shown because they know that people will be stupid and try to use it more than once, hence why they tested it and found out that on average, five uses is the best practice if you intend to try to reuse it.
      Youre completely ignoring the Use case of the equipment to make yourself feel better for having a UARS and Rappel knowledge. While all parachuters and base jumpers SHOULD have that knowledge as a safety precaution, Most people wont think that far ahead, Especially if theyre jumping out of planes. (the military has to drill all that shit into their paratroopers) (As a note, A UARS is a deployable ladder, It is not the same as an emergency descender. If you try to use a UARS while being stuck in a tree from a bad parachute run, youre stupid. It will be the same situation, Single use unless you cut the tree down or climb up the tree and negate the purpose of the UARS in the first place)
      Just accept the fact that this piece of kit is smaller and lighter than a UARS (perfect for parachuters, hang gliders, wingsuiters and base jumpers) while still giving them the ability to get themselves out of a shit situation. It can be used outside of those use cases, But those arent its intended use case. UARS is for URBAN self aid, and they are absolute ASS for getting out of a tree.

    ok so lets see you try it with cold, wet, or injured hands. now add shock from a crash or freezing temps(chairlift) and see how easy it is to manipulate the adjustments needed to don or transfer weight. and if it slips when you're descending in your controlled enviroment how about when it's wet and frozen? lets see the same 'test' after you get it wet then stick it in the freezer for a few. and then try in gloves or mittens, speaking of hands, maybe simulate a hand injury by using way too small rubber gloves or taping a few fingers together (as we do in TCCC training) then give it a swing.
    and just an FYI there are many reputable companies that make emergency descending devices that you can do all of the above with ease so step up and lets see this one show and prove itself in some (more) realistic world scenarios.

      tbh his routing was kinda shit, its easier to don the harness and just hold the release for the descender and hook it from there, Considering carabiners are easy to use with just a finger and a thumb. Wet would likely require you to finesse the controls a little more as water does tend to reduce friction minorly in some case. If its frozen, youre already fucked because its an emergency decent device for parachuters/base jumpers and if its frozen, youve gone into water, aint no reason to be using it. Its not an emergency descender for common use cases.
      Dont try to pigeon hole it to be an all in one descender when its clearly not built to do that, Its built to get you out of a tree if your chute hangs you up in one, Not pull you down from a glacial ice bluff or descend you down a mountain after falling into a winter lake. Most emergency descenders are all purpose except for when weight really matters, and often require bringing your own rope. This is an AIO parachuting emergency descender, Use once and done. Better to have and not need on a jump rather than need and not have.

      Maybe don't go skydiving from a wet airplane.
