It takes a lot for me to get lonely or bored, but I think I reached my limit the past few months. Moving to a new city and working from home has made it difficult to make new friends. Instead of putting in more effort, I spent all my time painting and working on my art career. This was not a totally bad thing, but I neglected taking days off and worked for long hours everyday. I gave myself no free time to get involved in my local art community.
This vlog documents the changes and art I made in December to create a better work/ life balance and cope with the feelings of loneliness I had. Allowing myself to rest and enjoy non-art related hobbies was so refreshing. The past month was a good reminder about the importance of mental and personal wellbeing when it comes to art and careers🤍 ~ashleigh

It’s hard for me to find friends who are interested in art or anything at all. Where I’m from everyone my age are only into the fast paced lifestyle: going out to clubs, partying, and drinking. So it’s hard to find likeminded friends who enjoy art and understand what it’s like to work on projects and have career goals. It does get lonely sometimes 😫😫😫

I was lucky enough to find friends who likes to draw irl. Although university and internship has been busy and we started drawing less and less (probably even lesser when we have full time jobs) but we still occasionally chill and shared together what we have drawn. Hope you eventually find a friend like that because it is really nice just to have that friend to share

I feel the same though. I like to be at my cozy place reading books and painting. Wheres all my friends love to party and clubs and drinking. Which make me lonely sometimes. And i start missing a friend who loves reading or painting or just have a chat with me 😔

Stay strong, Artist. I’m about to make the same leap myself as I’ve essentially been living the same life as a Creative Professional for quite some time. It’s very challenging and down-right heartbreaking at times. I can attest that God/life has provided me with some much-needed oases when I needed them the most. Stay true to your creative integrity, while also taking advantage of any “divine” opportunities or breaks that come your way, your work and contributions will show it.

It seems artists tend toward the meloncholy and are often overthinkers which is why art is so cathartic. Creating gives our minds peace for a little while. It brings out the beauty within that some of us find hard to see. At every age we are critical of ourselves then look back years later and say, "I was actually doing well and did not see it". What art has taught me is to just "Be." Be in the moment and accept yourself and love who you are and who you will become and someday you will look back with approval and also in the mirror with approval.

I literally started my youtube channel so that I'd be motivated to complete the activities that I was too depressed to do. To cultivate the community I lacked in my life.
I’ve had to overhaul how I approach work/habits by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my habits that give me stability (ex. journaling/working out) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my channel. I hope to find people to motivate me and I could motivate in return. It’s been really fulfilling so far.
I succeeded in the corporate world/uni by not taking care of myself. I’d like any future sucess to come from taking care of myself and I would like the work I’m putting into myself will nurture the creative side of me I’ve repressed for so long. Loved the video

I completely relate! I used to think that being an artist and an introvert went pretty well together, but lately it’s something I’ve been struggling with - thank you for the reminder that taking care of yourself and the things in your life is just as important as making art ❤️⭐️ also i absolutely love the paintings you did in this one!

I relate to this. During the winter months, (I’m full time artist) I spend a LOT of time indoors and i have to remind myself that I need to step away from the studio and spend quality time with my family. The next step is getting back to and hanging out with friends- irl. It’s been a hot minute😢 I hope that you get to spend that time with your art friends that energizes you and helps you remember to have some fun❤

Thanks for the important reminder to maintain balance in our lives. Making art can be a solitary experience, but it doesn't have to be! Connecting with other artists is an essential part of the process. There are practical advantages like exhibition opportunities, skill building, and mutual critiques, but there are equally important reasons like morale-boosting and helping others who might just need an encouraging word. We see that happen every day at our stores- our role as a community hub for artists is something we're very proud of!

Its ok painting is your passion and your passion always will demand some sacrifices like loosing some old friends but this same passion you will gain more friends through it. loneliness is not the absence of people around you ,this always be the most sacred moments in time that are very personal and private and is not for multitudes but for those who enjoy be with you

I'm an introvert who went through this and thought becoming an Ambivert would fix it. Nope. In the end, extroverts expect you to show up when they want to, pull you everywhere where you are expected to be seen, they want you to say meaningless things that they expect to hear. Introverts, we don't just say thoughtless things. It comes deep and we are sensitive no matter how we try not to take it seriously.
You are alone but you are not lonely. If you love the art you do, you are beyond happiness. This is the same with me. I could not care less whether the world will burn hahaha
I'm in my own happy place with good amount of people that supports me 😊

I’ve never thought of practicing figure drawings. Because I only paint and draw still life, also, as an architecture student I do architectural sketches. But actually I want to start drawing figures now! I feel like of I learn this I can do anything in art!💫✨
Talking about the topic of this video, I also feel so lonely, burned out while trying to balance art and architecture school! I think my only tips for these are attending classes of art, having short morning/night routines for yourself, taking Sundays as weekly resets doing nothing for work, painting what I want, cleaning, walking, getting ready for the new week!

Thank you for posting this video. I love the storyline, showing us process and your square space.
I’ve been painting on and off for years but hadn’t had the confidence to make it a full time deal. I now am in the position of being able to do that .
I live in the redwoods of Big Sur California. It’s beautiful and I recently moved here with a partner who is supportive.
This week I created an actual studio.
For a long time I’ve been working in tough environments that are not conducive to a cozy atmosphere, but I still made art.
I’m finally allowing myself to be creative. It hasn’t been easy! I cut out old acquaintances who didn’t serve a positive position in my life and I start from a clean slate. I’m in production mode now. I think socializing won’t be so good as I am setting up my business. I think you did the right thing by not socializing and working on your art actually… you have a lot of product.
I am really introverted now but when I get around the right environment I do enjoy ppl. That being said, I don’t want to connect with ppl yet. Yes, I do get lonely but I’d rather be art focused and have a good amount of work ready.
I like to make cannabis oil and paint. I also enjoy joe dispensa meditations and a balance of regular exercise. I drive down the coast and get to the beach, this is how I enjoy myself currently.
In the near future, I will join the art community and connect more. But again, I feel as though having enough art and business set up will fascilitate my outgoing nature

I love the editing of your vido so much. It's slow paced and the scenes have have placed well. You're right. Social media is too fast. I look at art reels that are sped up so much that it makes me sad. Utterly sad to realize that one has to narrow down the time to show the art that takes hours to build. Before the attention economy crept in, the world uses to be so slow, breathable. Now, it's easier to get exhausted too soon because how all those fast paced content. I am glad algorithm brought me to your and your paced editing. It helped me breath better. Love and light connecting to other kindred spirits, to you. x

As someone who's a wimp when it comes to using art to socialize, your painting collective sounds like a good way to use art as a catalyst for conversation. Some of the artists I most admire in here are the ones who can recreate a bit of the comradery of art school in their regular art practice.
I can see my past self cringing as I suggest this, but it may be useful to play your Bach with a metronome as a way to regulate the tempo until playing it more slowly becomes more natural. I think we all have a tendency to play faster than we realize in the moment.

Well when you reach my age and I turned 70 this year, everyone seems either detached from life or have deceased through disease and mental well being. But me I try to strive to continue and thru observations and critique , find new people that understand the frustration I under went in my career. I am retired and still single for my sins towards the marriage of female partners and to an extent that is how I perceive I will end life, alone and to an extent happy in what I have achieved has been a productive one. Cheers Ashleigh for sharing .

Thats been my whole life. Painting in solitude... I've always felt that my art was my onlu true friend. Never had much of an interest i n anything else others do especially in groups. Im 40 now and its still the case. But I have inner peace and its the life I chose, so I have 0 complaints. I would love to connect with other souls deeply but i feel like my connection to the creative spirit that i feel a vessel for is enough to fuel my soul.

This is something that I've been learning to do too, I want desperately to get to this level where I have competent skills to make my own videos so I treated my art studies like a 9 to 5 job and tried to practice day after day with little breaks and no leisure time activity, I burned out many a times and found myself in a depression where I wound up not being productive anyway. Now I've started taking my time doing things I liked previously before I went hardcore into art, video gaming, manga reading, even going out to taste a new dish is a refresher and enhances my motivation to work. Some people may romanticize the idea of getting to work on art all day, but when your sitting in a dark room with artificial lights all the time and no natural sunlight then that starts to mess with you hard and may even be damage the creative process, I hope to be more independent so I can move out of my bedroom and have a real studio space with lots of light and freedom.

Hi, i just found your channel and watched a few of ur videos and fell in love with the way you filming. Its so beautiful..the angle, lighting, colors, your paintings, all of them looks so aesthetic. Also the audio such as the backsound and the way you speak is so soothing. And makes the audience enjoy the video with relax feeling. You know how the world nowaday is so tiring with so many rush short videos around. Feels like our brain is filled with too many informations in such a short time 😅
Anyway, did you filmed it by yourself with tripod or you have someone else helping you film it?

I was a heavy partygoer from 18-24, did a lot of things that were not good for my health just to think I was free and thinking it was something liberating. When covid hit, everything was closed and nightlife was non-existent which made me actually realize that all these things of having lots of friends, doing things that are unhealthy do not specifically benefit your mental health, but the way of actually expressing yourself did. I live a very low social life now, which I very much enjoy. I try to keep my brain as healthy as possible just for the benefits of making things as accurate as I have in my mind. Making art has simply become a philosophy to me, where the feeling of loneliness is almost non-existent since I am doing things that actually make me happy. Simply put, if you can express your feelings with something you can create, it sort of numbs down the pain of feeling lonely. And I think that's one of the most powerful abilities you can have as a human being and worth all the time you would invest.

First of all i used t feel lonely when i was studying at University. Until i met my husband. When you marry your soulmate then it gets better when children grow up. I went through so many challenges, spiritual WARFARE, paranormal stuff, black magic done on me. All sorts. I have become STRONGER through the Grace Of everything GOOD. I had to change many habits about myself.
I am Greatful that My Husband and children are my friends so I don't feel lonely. However I have stopped meeting certain people and don't open the door to them/ let them in- so much PEACE NOW. I teach others what I know. I had a spiritual awakening years back an discovered things about myself and people.
Reading is important because it REVERSES dementia.
Yes there is a limit - for me Art is my other friend aswell. Being Creative is VERY IMPORTANT
