  • I picked up this solid plastic pond for £20 off Facebook. It makes a pretty awesome wildlife pond, filled with frogs, newts and other beasties.

    I've started clearing an area to install one of these moulded ponds. Looking forward to seeing what makes its home there.

    Aldi have great strong tubs at the moment for 10 euro. Great for small pond.
    DONT FORGET TO MAKE A RAMP FOR CREATURES TO GET IN AND OUT WITHOUT DROWNJNG!

      Absolutely! I put in a couple of bricks. the plants soon bulked out and provided great cover for animals as well as a spot to climb in and out.

    We've just installed a pond in our kitchen garden too! Digging in heavy clay was a nightmare.

      It really is! I've moved now and the soil in Sussex is much easier to work than Herefordshire.

    I love your pond. How is it doing 3 years on? I did the same as you with a preformed pond 2 years ago and it is full of wildlife and pond plants that I just give a little trim around the roots at the start of autumn to stop them taking over and spreading too much and the rest of the habitat happily looks after itself. Every garden large or small should have a pond.

    Brilliant video ! Well Done. I'd like the music a bit quieter, BUT I'VE SUBSCRIBED !

    Next year I'm planning to further/fully plant my backyard and it will include a wildlife pond. Probably a bit bigger and deeper like yours. These frogs looks so cute😍 The backyard is mostly fenced off by a brick wall, but I hope I will get enough wildlife coming to that pond. This spring I will install a mortar tub pond in the front garden, can't wait to start looking for supplies once the weather has warmed up🌿🌄💧🐸🦎🐝🦋

      That's great! A pond in the garden makes such a difference. We had next to no problems with slugs once we got our installed.

    Very nice. Where and how is the acces, for hedgehogs and toads?

    • @thesuburbansmallholder4893
      @thesuburbansmallholder4893  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can get in and out over the plants. I did put in a hedgehog ramp after I completed this video. We have several resident hedgehogs in the garden and they love it!

    Hello! Just subscribed. We are wanting to make a pond. Mum's worried how to keep it clear. Do you have any advice or an update on this one please? Thank you.

    • @thesuburbansmallholder4893
      @thesuburbansmallholder4893  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it's algae or duckweed you're worried about then fill an old pair of tights with wheat straw. That really helps to keep a pond clear.

      Thanks. We built one. We have oxygenating plants. So far, so good, but we'll try the tip if needed. Thanks again.

      Envirokid....ponds in nature are not clear! The creatures who live in ponds like darker water.
      The onmy reason we have clear ponds is for our viewing convenience. Keep cleaning and messing with a 'wildlife' pond and you will kill the actual wildlife!

    Do you mean you filled a pre formed pond for £ 20 ? Or did the pond cost £20 ?

  • @kv1815

    Lovely! How did you manage to get the frogs on the first place?

  • @epiphgd4302

    Does this not go stagnant without a pump? And do you have an overflow when it rains heavy?

    • @thesuburbansmallholder4893
      @thesuburbansmallholder4893  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The plants keep the water very clean and the wildlife stops mosquito larvae from surviving. in heavy rain it just overflows into the flowerbed but it's never been a problem.

    Did you put an overflow in?

    • @thesuburbansmallholder4893
      @thesuburbansmallholder4893  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBH no because I didn't need to it's in a pretty dry area of the garden and if anything it has much more risk of drying out rather than overflowing.
