- This was a weird purchase... I bought this special edition spiderman "refurbished" PS5 from eBay. It was $700, which is $100 over retail for this console. This spiderman PS5 just released like a month ago, so it's pretty weird that there are already "refurbished" ones for sale... let me know what you think about this purchase!

I know there are resellers out there that buy pallets of returns then sell them for a quick buck. They usually don't even test anything and sell things as is.

Do not worry, lad! All you need to do is deep clean inside as much as possible, then fix up anything inside the console heating up as an option even with a superfast cooling fan option.
The biggest problem is a lot of ebay sellers will sell you consoles and then ship them in practically nothing, and I hate that. They act like the postal service doesn’t toss these boxes around like they’re nothing.
Some USPS and ups drivers literally play basketball with the packages. Also they spike them like a football.
Agreed, and the worst thing I’ve noticed is that it’s not reserved to small sellers. Even these huge sellers with 100k sales still ship stuff with no packaging

Look, you better package your stuff well. 97% of the time when things are damaged it's because of poor packaging. You gotta realize packages are put in large containers and then in large dumpers to be dumped onto conveyor belts. That means sometimes larger, heavier packages will fall onto smaller, more fragile ones.

My theory is they had a PS5 that was broken so they bought themselves a Spider-Man 2 ps5, bought the plates separate and put the spare plates on the old one and sold it as a Spider-Man PS5.

eBay is a cesspit of scammers. Not just for consoles, but for anything.
In last two months have had two people supposedly send me baseball caps that I bought. First one just never showed, asked what happened, no reply just refunded. (was obviously never posted)
Second one provided tracking but on the tracking site it said the label had been generated but was never received by them. Messaged the seller, didn't reply so had to file for refund. (once again was obviously never posted).
I have been on eBay for two decades, and it was never as bad as this. It's just become scammer central.

That's a bad deal! Hopefully the seller will admit there are errors and respond pretty soon! The state of the console and the issues faced are things that should not happen with such a new console. Definitely seems like a swap job there! (Two things you could try: 1 - look at printing on the main boards to see if they are identified as being older than they should be (an older revision date, or whatever); 2 - as the console asked for a system update, look at the software version it currently has and see how much older it is). Just a thought or two.
They bought this ps5 limited edition. Took the face plates off the new one, and put it on their old one. Then they sold you their old one with the Spider-Man covers. They didn’t care about Spider-Man, but needed a new PS5 cuz the old one is broken. They then sold it to you for a profit. So they ended up getting a new PS5 for free essentially after selling it to you for $700.

exactly what I thought too. Otherwise they would have 1 returned it for a refund...2 contacted Sony for warranty support to fix it. But instead.. Most likely just swapped their broken PS5 and put on the Spiderman covers then ripped off the buyer

You can’t trust any of those “EBay refurbished” people. I ordered a refurbished GBA SP once and it just didn’t work at all. And to make matters worse, the hinge was put in improperly
Money on this being an EARLY PS5 and they just swapped out the plates and took advantage of the collector value
It’s wild, I just started doing console repairs for myself and yah the “Refurbished” consoles I bought have barely ever been looked at it feels

I was thinking this was a swap from the seller who probably bought this console from dk oldies and resold it on ebay, but just didn't know what they were actually doing when they were putting it back together 😂😂
Unfortunately ebay support will remove negative feedback upon the sellers request so there is no way to avoid this type of seller. I rarely leave neg feedback but everytime I do it is later removed by ebay. This is especially true for power sellers. All they have to do is complain and ebay will remove the feedback.

I just returned mine to Amazon brand new. Had they not announced an updated console, I might had kept it. Resell prices on eBay are flat too. Wasn't worth keeping
So the ps5 fan will indeed spin faster if it needs to in order to cool down the console! I’ve always been under the impression that I ps5 has only 2 speeds. The idle speed at the Home Screen and one more speed a little higher when opening a game and activity gaming. You plugging in that fan and it blasting off shows the ps5 will actually ramp the fan up if need be! Mine has always been super quiet since day 1 and I’ve never had it so this! Thanks for these videos!
The thermal camera was so interesting! That is so scary how hot the console with the broken fan was getting just on the home screen. You're so right that too many sellers are selling as "refurbished" when they really mean "used". Just because you're reselling it or it simply boots up doesn't make it refurbished. Some places can be really good like I got a pocket laptop from japan that was set as used and they did everything the full works they cleaned it inside and out til it was sparkling they put new thermal paste in they put little foam squares around all the slightly loose parts they even replaced the battery too it was awesome! of course you usually get your package taken hostage from whatever carrier until you pay them the fees for the trip if you get something shipped from that far away..
My Launch Model PS5 did the static thing too about once or twice a week. Also would sometimes go to the home screen on its own or freeze and I'd have to force power it off

I put my PS5 the correct way. Even a Sony exec got called out for putting the PS5 upside down, so even Sony themselves have verified which way is the correct way to place the console as that exec admitted to him making a mistake lol.
Ok, I'm curious: Is the model number of the ps5 the same as the middle of the ps5 spider-man edition. I know you said it matches the white box, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an older model 1215A is the spider-man system it says on the sleeve
you dont even need to heat up warranty seals to remove them without ruining them, a little drop of lighter fluid on them they come right off and stay sticky after the fluid dries
Compare the serial numbers on the box to the one on the machine, might be the old swap trick

I would personally try to get a partial refund since they sold you a broken console and keep it. You can use the partial refund to get the right fan for it.
i would love this console but still wouldnt pay close to even retail price let alone 700.00
i just bought a used ps5 original for 300.00 plus tax if that gives you an idea how long i wait for deals. and it had to be "like new" condition. im brainstorming how to design this version by doing some DIY at home.

We bought a Nintendo Wii game for my son and it was scratched to hell. I contacted the seller with pictures and a video of me trying the game and not getting past the title screen. He refunded us and didn't even want the game sent back, probably because he knew it was junk to begin with.
Probably not , most likely wasn't worth sending back a broken game on their dime.

I work for such a place and unfortunately the bosses don't want us to do any stress tests on consoles because of time and money. Turn on consoles, load up a game to main screen and then factory reset.

Maybe they bought the Spider-Man PlayStation five, kept it, and just gave you the spider plates on their old PlayStation five. Perhaps they just wanted to swap the console for whatever reason.

Bet he bought this bundle, switched the plates from the old ps5 on to his new ps5 and kept just the console portion of the bundle, repackaged then put it up for sale. In turn giving him a new ps5 that is actually clean and works.

The limited/special edition of Spiderman 2 has nothing special about it, since you can buy the plates separately, even the controller, so what's the point of this bundle?
I only bought it because I had a digital ps5 and wanted a disk one. It having the plates, controller and game was a plus in my book for an upgrade.
