- This video contains 6 fast ways to kill the optional boss Emerald Weapon. They don't require level 99 or max stats. They all can be done solo. I have included Materia/Stats page for every method in the video.
Method 1-3: Overflow bug. They all have Berserk and do critical hit!
1: Vincent with 64k kills
2: Vincent with 17.5k kills + 4 Hero Drinks
3: Barret with ~2000k AP + 4 Hero Drinks.
* I wish I had 8 KoTR mastered to try without Hero Drinks.
Method 4-6: They all use well known trick - limit + counter=mime
4: Cloud - solo
5: Barret +4 Hero Drinks
6: Cid + 3 Hero Drinks

I hate Cait but if you use the "select/switch" pause you can insta kill Emerald, no grind no setup.
Me too, that is why I never mastered "Game Over" :)

Getting that many kills mastering KoTR 8 times for Barret still takes LONGER then the 30 minutes it takes to KoTR it to death and I had NO limit break even at lv 60 outdamage KoTR with all 13 Knights ONLY doing 5000 to 6000 hits EACH.
You should see how LOOONG it takes to get 64k kills with Vincent, it is ridiculous!
But this video is not about how long it takes to prepare, rather how long it takes to battle Emerald - the shorter the better.
I won't get those Vincent Kills EITHER its still faster for him to KoTR it and Ruby weapon to death.
2 of the overflow glitches are completely different. I included 2 versions of Vince, because many people were thinking that you can do it only with 64k+ kills ;)
Also I'm interested only in FAST kills. Lucky 7777 has slow animation and low dmg output. That is why you will not see 'classics' like KoTR+Mime.
Anyone that doesn't feel like watching the whole thing. Basically just overflow glitches (does the method of attaining the overflow matter? no what matters is your using the overflow glitch to win the fight) and mime'd limits. Its really only 2 methods when you get down to it.

This is a good question and was raised few times. I wish I have the answer so I can credit them!
Actually both songs used in the video were written by (from what I remember) a German group that is/was doing metal-electronic style and they have written many songs for games (or at least the one I played).
The game was far off my style so I don't even recall the name, but was a brand new (12-13 years ago) game for PC in arcade style shooter like 1941. I usually never finish such type of games, but that one had a good almost RPG like system for upgrade which kept me to the end. Beautiful designed, and music - well you have heard 2 tracks helped to keep my interest too :D
One thing that I still remember was fighting level that you fight Borg cube and things like "resistance is futile" - very clear reference to Start Trek.
BTW I've heard about programs that you could feed with music and they can tell you the singer, the song, the year,... so if you find out please let me know!

Well, there are many resources that explain in details how it works.
In short - death penalty dmg depends on number of kills. If you manage to kill many enemies, dmg becomes so high that happens what people call overflow. The good thing about it is that when it happen, game logic threat it as the enemy is dead :D

So final fantasy 7 has an interesting way of storing damage in the system. It has a separate variable for whether you're healing or hurting the target. So when you put the damage too high for the variable it becomes negative. But it doesn't care because it takes the absolute value when it applies but it checks the variable itself is under 9999. If the variable is, then it doesn't reduce it to 9999. Since it's negative, it passes the "less than" check, but since the application is the absolute value, it deals that much damage. So by increasing damage past a certain point in one hit, you overflow to the negative numbers. Vincent and Barret have weapons capable of gaming the calculation that high. In Cid's case, the weapon deals more damage for every kill he gets, and for barret, it's the total AP of the materia he's equipped with. By equipping a bunch of mastered knights of round, he has millions of AP and it games the calculation into overflowing into negative numbers. Same for vincent with enough kills. It also helps to give them hero drinks and power sources because that jacks up their attack stat which causes them to reach that overflow point sooner.

No dupe here. If I have used dupe I will had 8 KoTR ;)
KoTR here play a role to buff Barret's weapon. Not used as a summon :)
Anyway at least few people have defeated Emerald without mentioned things. I have done it for NM (No Materia) challenge.

3x w-magic, 3x quadra magic, 3x demi3 materias, check this out.
Emerald isn't so hard to beat without them, you just need a LOT of multi-hit abilities to quickly take care of the eyes. Ruby is the one you either need an exploit, or an insane amount of farming (which you still may fail without proper setup).
