Given Rennala's ability to reshape people's appearances, the line saying she "gifted" Rellana with black hair sounds like it could mean she rebirthed her, but I asked Lokey_DS about how the line reads in Japanese and it seems fairly certain that she did literally just give some of her own hair to her sister. Hey, unlike Marika who's always playing 5D Chess, the Carian princesses are much more proud to have feelings, probably because it's a matriarchy. Whereas Marika, it's Might Makes Right, and everyone likes strong muscle men like Godfrey (Who's great). But when looking at the values those two houses cherish, Carians come off as much more human, much less bloodthirsty, and infinitely more civilized. Like, their women actually love the dudes they marry. Compare that to Marika marrying whichever Lord serves to give her more followers... She has to appeal to the lowest common denominator and not in a good way. Miquella was gonna do things better, combine the values of those two houses once more, but look how that turned out....
I have been waiting for this video cuz Rellana might be my fav new Suleyvan cosplayer, but I didn’t even think about the Dancer, let alone Cirian. It’s wild to think that they’ve kept the gold and silver blades idea running in three of the last four Souls games (also once again, DS2 is just being quirky and different)
I really love those videos, feels like someone tells us the story of Elden Ring as if it was in a Ghibli movie. Probably it's the music doing that, but I appreciate it.
The fact about the lock of hair stands out to me whenever I see fanart of her, though I don't have the heart to reach out and umm actually their rendition of her like that.
Sword for a Ring how very Carian of her. But its flipped. Rennala gave Radagon the sword (just like Ranni does to the player) for the ring(I guess she got one we don't really know). Seems like Rellana was the one who proposed to Messmer and he accepted by gifting her the flaming sword.
Actually, by closer look on the details of the ring you can see Marika‘s emblem on it. So I wouldnt think it was gifted from Rellana, but more a sign of his devotion to his mother, Marika.
@realnarouchan true, but from what we know of carian marriages, the women give the spouses a sword as proposal. If messmer gave Rellana the sword, he's technically the wife
Rellana was deeply in love with Messmer, and followed him into the Realm of Shadow. It was a love that he could never reciprocate, and eventually the desolation of all that she gave up and all that she would never have destroyed her. That’s why she has no dialogue, no cutscene. By the time that we encounter her, she’s basically gone hollow.
Reminds me a story of Raistlin Majere and Krysania from Dragonlance, where she eventually resurrected him but he was too hell-bent on continuing his mewing streak to love her back.
I love this interpretation, also to add to it maybe ymir had a hand in helping her despair along while he was scheming to honor something beyond the full moon.
thats why she is ready to whoop our asses as soon as we come to Castle Ensis. The only satisfaction she has left is combat so she makes sure if we are looking to kill messmer we're gonna have to go through her and that we have to work for it
1:09 actually the fire sword is a straight sword as indicated by its move set. well dual wielding the swords the R1 move set is the light greatsword power stance, the R2 is the one handed like greatsword R2. & the L1 combo (in which you use only the fire sword) is the straight sword move set.
I love the format of your videos! So calming, love that I have to read and not listen to a rambling person spitting facts, it's like warming to my heart
I remember seeing a bunch of people talking about how Renalla was actually light haired for some reason. And the dlc gave us an armor piece that says look at Renalla's long dark hair.
This came up on Twitter last night and you were the FIRST place I went to see if someone had revealed Rellana's face. But there was nothing. And then just three hours ago, here it is! I knew I could count on you. Best Souls analysis in the game!
Thing is, Rellana is specifically named the younger sister. Though technically twins can be designated that way too, Elden Ring doesn't specify that they're twins. For example, we don't know who the older is of the twins Miquella and Malenia so chances are this applies to the Carians too. Meaning there might be a third Carian royalty whose name starts with an R that is an adherent of another moon... In other words, Renna. I think it's possible the Three Sisters in Caria Manor aren't a reference to Ranni and her siblings but rather Rennala and her younger twin siblings Rellana and Renna.
The shots you take can be so beautiful but the lord of the moon one had me laughing good. Miniscule nitpick, 1:05 her fire sword is just a straight sword. Love the videos, keep it up!
Makes one wonder WTF was going on in the DLCs development that some of the stuff in here came out abrupt and half-baked, both in terms of lore and lack of boss cutscenes and dialogue.
As much as I love every Soulsborne game, that's kinda the case with all of them besides Sekiro. The rush to rearrange assets and reconfigure mechanics late in development has had pretty obvious effects in every game. See the cut Archstone, the Dragon Butts of Izalith, all of DS2, Kos and Ebrietas switching names and making Micolash's dialogue confusing, Sulyvahn having no cutscene or dialogue (plus iirc his model was originally called Aldrich and located in the Kiln as final boss), and finally Elden Ring adding entire NPCs and quests in free updates because some stuff just dead-ended unexpectedly on day 1.
Her weapon has a unique moveset which I personally value more than being meta (Fromsoft can easily change numbers on a weapon with any patch). I beleave her twin swords are the only melee weapon in the game with a left handed attack in place of the block.
Her lore honestly feels like fanfic. Never before heard twin sister of Rennala who's name is Rellana who is very important, but gets absolutely no introduction or anything and there is no mention of her after that and may as well be filler. It kind of feels like From threw her character together just so SOTE has a dedicated Mage area and boss for main plot.
We never found out anything about Renna, and she has one of the three sisters' towers. I don't think it made sense that one of the Towers was named after Seluvis, so maybe it originally belonged to Rellena
The area where Ranni stays is called the Three Sisters, so it's most likely Rennala,Rellana, and Renna. Two are taken one Ranni and the Second by Saluvis which is obviously not one of the sisters.
@@elphiefanful Sure but in the base game, important characters get set up before you see them, everything feels like it belongs. Like you read the sword monuments which let you know about Malenia and Radahn. The DLC lore feels completely separate from the base game, under the convenient guise of "Marika hid the land of shadow away" which leads me to believe the DLC wasn't planned until after release. It was definitely a letdown from a story/lore perspective for me.

Tangentially related, the description of the Shattered Stone talisman describes an earthquake which decimated a nearby village, with some residents claiming "the moon itself crashed to the ground". Obviously, there's a moon in the sky, but what if that moon wasn't the only one? Wouldn't it be interesting if the Lands Between once had actual Twin Moons?
It's wild that they add a new character and still find a way to make it weird. No wonder he keeps his distance, his dad's, ex wife's sister is obsessed with him. Poor guy is dealing with enough momma drama. He doesn't need to add to it.

I'd like to think of Messmer as a tragic but charming figure who attracted compassion and admiration alike back when he set out for the crusade.
Nah, some people just flock to any banner where's blood to be spilled. In several wars during the XX century there were examples of volunteer units formed from citizens of countries that didn't participate in the wars themselves. Like Norway volunteers that enrolled in nazi ranks because, duh, they thought swastika is cool.
Many people mistake malevolence as charm . It appears as confidence.
@spottedslash4256 no, messmer himself isn't a bad guy, he was kinda brainwashed and forced to wage this war for Marika, a war of revenge against the hornsent. I like to think Messmer himself was more compassionate and charismatic than Marika (as seen with how he treats the albinaurics, another shunned race that he meets himself and is able to create his own opinion on, without Marika telling him anything) he was just brainwashed into seeing the hornsent as more vermin than people. Rennala is directly said to be the "elder sister", I know twins arent born exactly at the same time, but that would be a weird way to say it.
I actually think Renna could be that twin lol the Dark Moon likes to hide and she's an adherent of it. Her name starts with an R. Her outfit is in Renna's Rise that was named by Ranni. Renna teaching Ranni in secret with Ranni potentially not knowing she's her aunt is a cool story point. A few things to consider lol
@@DanielGarcia-rx3kt The towers are also called "The Three Sisters." Leaving the shield as a gift to pick up a sword in his name with his power with an oath granting that power. I say an oath since that's what Radagon gave to Rennala as well. Until he broke it but yeah.

The gold and silver also corresponds with D’s gauntlets
They've also kept the "upper half of a woman on top of arthropod idea" going for 3/4 games. But in that case ds3 was the odd one out.

The fact about the lock of hair stands out to me whenever I see fanart of her, though I don't have the heart to reach out and umm actually their rendition of her like that.
The lighting in the thunbnail makes it look like Rellana's wearing anime armor, with only the top half of her Twin Moons being covered.

I missed this when you use this music. It makes it relaxing to watch!
The gauntlet piece of the Messmer armor set has a grey-ish blue ring, suspiciously similar to the darkmoon ring.
That’s very interesting.
The only satisfaction she has left is combat so she makes sure if we are looking to kill messmer we're gonna have to go through her and that we have to work for it
All because Messmer just wanted to please his mother and earn her affection.

"Bringing the light of the moon where the Erdtree doesn't reach" is a BAR
I love how often G.R.R.M. just moves some letters around and just dumps a rhyming character out.
Rellana's face most likely is identical to Rennala's, they're twins after all. You can argue they're dizygotic, but I don't think so
Thing is, Rellana is specifically named the younger sister.

Remember, no bosses need cutscene. Its just a bonus
Thanks for everything you do zullie 👍

They aren’t that bad in pve, not sure in pvp. Problem is that it only shine at high level.
Her weapon has a unique moveset which I personally value more than being meta (Fromsoft can easily change numbers on a weapon with any patch). I beleave her twin swords are the only melee weapon in the game with a left handed attack in place of the block.
Carian lore is just a PSA to let us know that simping never pays
Her lore honestly feels like fanfic. Never before heard twin sister of Rennala who's name is Rellana who is very important, but gets absolutely no introduction or anything and there is no mention of her after that and may as well be filler. It kind of feels like From threw her character together just so SOTE has a dedicated Mage area and boss for main plot.
Just because the game didn't tell you about it initially, doesn't mean it couldn't exist.
The only weird thing to me is why rellana moon require 72 int when rennala, a full sorcerer, only require 70
