I really like the wood swatches but it’s a shame about the kitchen counters not having a “clean swatch” and I’m surprised there was no horse decor (eg a hanging bridle or saddle) for tack rooms
it’s honestly kind of ridiculous that out of everything, it’s the kitchen counters that they missed out on providing many options/swatches when many simmers have been asking for more kitchen counters and stuff

Former horse girl: that gate you aren't sure what it goes with, is pretty typical for a paddock. A lot of paddocks have a normal wood enclosure, but then have a metal gate. It's pretty typical. Doesn't look like right all the time but normal lol. The barn I was at most of my life had gates like that.
Yes it's suchhhhh a shame especially since we don't get kitchen sets too often because they take up so many objects in packs, they really need to give us versatile colour swatches!

I still haven’t finished everything that needs to be painted but my fiancé and I just painted the bathroom a bright turquoise and the hallway to the basement a light gray.
all of this is great for historical simmers too!! I was surprised how many items I was eyeing greedily like that bathtub...now i want to start a game in the 1800s west lol
The gate that doesn't match a fence is a farm gate / livestock gate. They are made for livestock to go through, and often don't match the fence. We had red ones on the pasture of my childhood home, and the fence around them was a wire fence.

30:17 That wall Decor is a Barn Quilt, and they usually go outside of the barn. Its made to look like a quilt, some have meaning in the pattern and sometimes its just to look pretty. But they are typically seen above the main doors leading into a barn, or most commonly today, the side of the barn facing the road. Some of the patterns seem to be indigenous inspired, but barn quilts themselves are not an indigenous tradition.
Came here to comment this! My understanding of them is that they were often done with leftover paint. When I first saw them (in real life) I also thought they were indigenous inspired and I've had a really hard time learning more about what the designs mean.
Fun fact: many of those beautiful patterns on rugs, bedspreads, cushions, the table runner, etc. are characteristic Native American patterns. They and some other items from other packs (like the rug from StrangerVille) are based on textile and weaving patterns from four corners tribes, like the Navajo. I highly suggest Googling Navajo rugs for some beautiful real-life examples!
I think the lone metal gate would pair nicely with the cottage living stone walls or just a base game hedge as you often see those sort of gates with those sort of fencing combinations in the UK countryside at least :)
The wooden quilted item 30:31 is perfect for a barn quilt! we have one on our barn. It's something in the US (maybe elsewhere too?). The patterns often represented the land or family.
The wood with the white plaster looking stuff in the middle is an older style of log cabin. There are some houses near me like that, from like the 1700s.
I think the metal looking gate is definitely supposed to go with the farm fencing. It’s very much the type of gate you’ll find on farm paddocks. I’ve climbed over many in my time.
This build and buy is SOO stunning!! Love me some rustic wood furniture and architecture, and that metal fireplace especially is literally to die for!!
The green gate reminds me of how on actual farms there are metal gates attached to wood fences or wire. It doesn’t usually match and the metal gates are usually green or yellow (but I’ve seen orange)
There's a lot of stuff in this pack that I don't super vibe with just because I'm not a western rider so a lot of American horse stuff just feels like just slightly "wrong" to me, as an English rider (just because it's almost familiar but not, I am happy this exists for people who love western riding or like cowboy shenanigans). But I do absolutely adore the beach ball, I can confirm that real horses will play with big beach balls and excercise balls and it is very funny.
Hey, Aussie farmer here LOVE the different gate, hoped they'd add a wire fence in with it but doesn't seem like they did. But definitely looks like a real Aussie farm gate!
I was immediately delighted by the quality of the new wood wall swatches as compared to the original base game swatches. The flooring as well (though we also just got a huge base game swatch update). And though I probably won't be painting ceilings too often, I could definitely see myself using the cloud ceiling.
the build/buy looks really good. i haven't gotten growing togther yet, but the combo of both of them will have me building for days . also, james is so right about the white kitchen cabinets, maybe they'll update them VERY SOON lol

That weird metal gate would work with the hedge fences, especially in Henford as they remind me of some UK farm gates. That said, around here in country Victoria I associate those with Electric fencing which I doubt the sims would ever add😅
The wall hanging that looks like a quilt square goes on the outside of the barn. It is not Native, it's a tradition that comes from the Dutch if I remember correctly and is done in the u.s. too.
So glad to see that first 'brick' texture. That's so common in the barns near me (MA, USA) since they are a little bouncy gym-like texture. Perfect for hooves.
Just wanted to say that most gates I've seen for horses are the metal ones that seems out of place in the pack. It can a very light material irl and is pretty standard compared to using a wood gate, since it would be a lot heavier and also much more expensive. I wish we had the same height fence as the wooden one but with vinyl or maybe electric braid or tape. There's probably something you can use to give it a similar look though.

With that sky ceiling, you can use that on the floor and put a couple of ice cubes in it (from debug) or upsized snow piles to make it look like the artic waters with all the icebergs in it.
I'm just imagining all of the old country western builds people are going to do, like saloons, old jailhouses Especially with the horses I would absolutely build an entire old western style town with all of this!

I just had a thought and hope this will be implemented with cross pack compatibility especially with the Veternarien from Cats & Dogs. When your horse gets sick you call a vet like you do in the real world with big farm and ranch animals, Also be able if horse needs surgery could go into a rabbit hole. Also expressed this when I just watched the hillarius Dr Gluon first view with some gameplay.
I love all the build mode items so far although seeing the iron/metal decor for the ranch signs makes me sad that we didn't get a career for that or an activity table to make them (like the woodwork bench) :/

I'm so glad that hey at least TRIED to get the same swatches for build objects and some buy objects. Like finally, we don't get weird swatches every expansion pack. Also FINALLY ceiling tiles. I'm not mad about the roof still having a basic grey. But this opens up colour themed rooms
im actually so stoked about the ranch sign arch(?) and having the ability to snap wall decorations into it. im immediately hoping james would make a bigwallet crest/sign to go with it for his LP’s ranch
I’m so happy to have something that looks like the southern US. All of these swatches remind me of either Cracker Barrel or my great grandparents house. It’s full of so much of the look and feel of things down here and I love it. Hopefully the game play has a lot of community and hospitality interactions. So much nostalgia for me.
I grew up staying at my grandfather's family's log cabin and the white between the logs is caulk that keeps the cabin sealed as the logs swell and shrink during the seasons. I love all the rustic stuff! It looks so much like stuff I grew up with, I absolutely plan on making a pink barn like ours used to be before it got painted white, haha.
I almost always buy a pack with a new kitchen because I desperately need more in the game but I'm so disappointed that they don't have a few clean swatches. Especially when there are items that have said swatches.
I dunno if anybody’s said this or not, but the really nice green gate? It’s a cattle gate, and they often don’t have matching fencing 😛 It’s not unusual to have very rustic, wooden fencing and then a green cattle gate, though sometimes they’re blue, black, or red. The green ones are used by the US forest service as well.
As a historical Simmer, I am very excited about the BB assets from this pack. I don't mind that the counters are lacking clean, modern swatches, as the rustic ones are going to be so much more useful for me. I've played Old Western saves before, but now I'm going to have to go back to that era. In Sims 3 I only ever played with horses once, and I don't see myself playing with them much in Sims 4. However, the rest of the pack looks to be fantastic.

The fence I see that kinda gate on most often is one wooden board along the top and square wire underneath, but yeah its a classic farm gate.

I'm so glad that hey at least TRIED to get the same swatches for build objects and some buy objects. Like finally, we don't get weird swatches every expansion pack.
Also FINALLY ceiling tiles. I'm not mad about the roof still having a basic grey. But this opens up colour themed rooms

You could use the green gate with the green thingys you use as fences... the grass ones... I forgot the name :D
I don't think I've ever been so in love a pack's build/buy items as I am now
im actually so stoked about the ranch sign arch(?) and having the ability to snap wall decorations into it. im immediately hoping james would make a bigwallet crest/sign to go with it for his LP’s ranch
I’m very much a horse girl so was excited for this pack anyway but never expected the build mode to be so much of what o have been dreaming of
I’m so happy to have something that looks like the southern US. All of these swatches remind me of either Cracker Barrel or my great grandparents house. It’s full of so much of the look and feel of things down here and I love it. Hopefully the game play has a lot of community and hospitality interactions. So much nostalgia for me.
I grew up staying at my grandfather's family's log cabin and the white between the logs is caulk that keeps the cabin sealed as the logs swell and shrink during the seasons.
I love all the rustic stuff! It looks so much like stuff I grew up with, I absolutely plan on making a pink barn like ours used to be before it got painted white, haha.
I almost always buy a pack with a new kitchen because I desperately need more in the game but I'm so disappointed that they don't have a few clean swatches. Especially when there are items that have said swatches.

I dunno if anybody’s said this or not, but the really nice green gate? It’s a cattle gate, and they often don’t have matching fencing 😛 It’s not unusual to have very rustic, wooden fencing and then a green cattle gate, though sometimes they’re blue, black, or red. The green ones are used by the US forest service as well.
I'm not too excited for this pack, but honestly I'm excited to see you play it and other simmers enjoy it!
As a historical Simmer, I am very excited about the BB assets from this pack. I don't mind that the counters are lacking clean, modern swatches, as the rustic ones are going to be so much more useful for me. I've played Old Western saves before, but now I'm going to have to go back to that era. In Sims 3 I only ever played with horses once, and I don't see myself playing with them much in Sims 4. However, the rest of the pack looks to be fantastic.
Maybe the metal looking gate is supposed to be paired with half walls to create custom stables/pens?
